It had rained the previous night. The steep, sheer face of the mountainside was slick and dark with the wash of water. It trickled down plant foliage clinging to life. Even as Azwali stared up, up, out into the sky looming far above, one solitary drop slid down a fern and hit her on the nose.

Somehow, she'd managed to ditch her seven siblings. Her mother was always as easy one to ditch, and so she need not be worried about. Now, however, Azwali was missing her very greatly.

The bright cub turned carefully on the surface she'd climbed to. Her feet moved only to twist and she peered over the edge of a rock, over her ledge and down into the abyss below. In truth, she had not come very far up the mountainside.

She was already tired and dirty, however. Mud and grime streaked her face, paws, and body - the grit of rock clinging to her coat in some places. And to Azwali, the fall looked forever. The drop wouldn't kill her, but it might leave her with something broken, and that could eventually do the rest of the killing.

The view was lovely, however. Even with as little distance as she'd travelled, she could see the edge of the lake and far, far away she thought she could see the path that eventually led to the pass. It was so far away, and she'd never seen it herself, but she wanted to. What, and better who laid beyond those lands? Azwali was dying to find out!

Sticking up her nose at it, Azwali returned her head to the dripping fern. Her eyes were sizing up the distance between her and a particularly strong looking shrub jutting from the cliffside. It was between her and that nice, wide precipice that meant just a little bit higher.

The young cub squared up her shoulders, hunkered down and leapt.

Had it been hours since she started flying, Abayomi could not recall. All she knew was her body was tired, and the rain was holding her back from promising lands.

Rain. It was never kind to the feathers of any beast. It was the reason most birds huddled up on tree limbs to dry and a cause for death if they drenched throughly enough. I should have stayed with Alistair her thoughts provoked as every flap brought her closer to the ground. He was safe and warm; right now, that was all she needed.

But who would Abayomi be without freedom? If she did not utilize her wings to take trips to new lands, who would? Being free and being tied down never seemed to work for the goddess...Then again, she would not give it a chance either way. All there was to her, seemed to be a strong friendship that allowed for much more without being emotionally attached...

As her body swayed and dipped in the skies, the point of a mountain becoming clear as being the only thing to stand in her way, she felt helpless to ignore the facts. The safest landing was around the middle, very near to the ground and would serve as a perfect platform to dry her mangy pelt. With a sigh she arched that white form forward and floated toward the rock, landing squarely where she aimed.

"Oh my!" cries of frustration howled as she rolled to her rump and began licking the fine hairs of her paws. "This mugginess, why this mugginess...!" she spoke again with a tone thick with agony. Trying to comb down the frizz was so hard! It always had been, especially with the amount her pelt brought on to itself. Dressed in fine mist from humidity, Abayomi sighed and groaned while stretching her wings out and handling the individual feathers with care. If only there were a pond to look at, to be sure she was decent enough to meet and make friends...

A lake would be rather useful right now.

From around a sharp bend, Abayomi could make out the similar thump of a body hitting rock. Was it predator? Was it prey? Really, what mattered when you were a Goddess. Though her wings were of no use now, she sure believed any evil or wrong could be swayed by her kindness! Forgetting the lack of elegance in her facade, the lioness strode down the path and took a peek.

A bright yellow cub jumped over quite the hurdle, Abayomi giving way to a pleased chuckle.

What fun! she thrummed, pulling completely around the corner and bouncing in place. There had been days of meeting no one for the goddess, days of not knowing what lurked just beyond her den and this seemed to make up for all of it. Turning her ears forward, Abayomi chirped a very lively "Hello!" the flower in her hair rotating as her ears flattened back in delight.

She'd Jumped over quite the hurdle and almost landed on her face. Instead, she went sliding along the slick rocks and dug her nails in with a shriek.

The sound was harsh in her ears, but she was successful. She did not fall to a life of bruises and pain.

With quaking feet, she straightened herself up and gave another heavy look over the edge.

The sound of a hello nearly sent her to follow. Her fur went straight up on end and in a display of expertly placed feet, she completed a full rotation to face the other direction.

"I told you not to follow me up---" here, she finished in her head. But it wasn't one of her numerous siblings, and especially not her brothers.

It was, in fact, the strangest creature she had ever seen in her life. Jaw hanging down by her paws, Azwali took a step forwards, her eyes brightening. "Hi," she echoed breathlessly as a lopsided smile slowly grew on her features.

She settled down onto her haunches as if they were old acquaintances and asked with the most endearing of tones, "What are you?"

Because, in all honestly, Azwali had no idea. Something that spoke of adventure, she was sure of it!
