 Xiang had left early that morning to explore along the river. She had settled into life with Wyatt quite easily, comfortably, and happily, but hopefully with this early morning jaunt, Xiang could meet other kirin. There were a few things Xiang liked more than meeting other kirin and socializing. She loved meeting others, chatting, and getting to know others.
That was part of the joy of living in a forest alongside the river. A lot of kirin passed by the rivers and through the forests, and there were not a few living creatures that also lived in the vicinity with whom she sometimes communicated. Places brimming with life enthralled her. Eagerly, she moved through, not expecting to meet the rather unique mare also along the river on this bright and early morning in late autumn.

 Autumn was Eukarya's favorite season. She enjoyed watching the leaves turn and the winds chill. To her it was perfect, and even more so near the river. She still felt groggy from sleep but a few gulps of cold water were just enough to wake her. As she peered out over the river, admiring the view, she noticed another ki'rin. Euky was a bit of a recluse, she wasn't familiar with most of her kind. But she stayed, and watched the newcomer closely. The mare appeared friendly as she strolled closer. For a fleeting second, she felt like calling out a greeting but stopped herself. She would wait to see what the other would do first. Not everyone is a morning person - including Euky herself.

Xiang found a good spot along the river to pause and drink. Still no luck at finding others, which was a trifle disheartening. As she bent her head to drink, she noticed among the green were unusual patches of bluer green, white, and a greenish cream. She lifted her head to gaze into the warm-hued eyes of another mare, who appeared to have small wings on her back. Xiang smiled with delight. Finally! "Good morning!" she called out cheerfully.

The other ki'rin greeted her and Euky managed to get out one of her own. "...Morning!" She let out a nervous breath and flexed her wings. She wasn't quite sure what to do. Small talk was not her forte but she tried, returning the mare's smile with her own. "Uh, what brings you to the river so early in the morning?" She mentally kicked herself as she realized the most obvious answer, a drink of water.

Xiang smiled. "The water, to some small extent, but mostly to see who else might be living along the river." She was quite glad she had found someone else, and hoped she might join the pretty mare for breakfast before heading back to her beloved Wyatt. "May I join you this morning?" she asked politely and eagerly. Xiang was definitely the sort who loved meeting others.

Euky smiled, not feeling as idiotic as she had moments earlier. "Of course you can." She didn't add that she normally was alone and was quite happy with the change of pace. She really didn't want to admit to being a social outcast and from this ki'rin who had such a sweet nature to her, would most likely not understand her problems.
"Uh, I'm Eukarya but you can just call me Euky if you'd like."

"That's a pretty name," Xiang said cheerfully. "I'm called Xiang," she said as she crossed the river to where Euky stood to join her. "Do you live around here, Euky?" she asked as she stepped ashore and shook a bit to get some of the cold river water off her short coat.

"Oh, thank you." She smiled at the compliment. "I live fairly close by, though I'm thinking of moving towards the sea. It's been too long since I was at the coast." An almost forlorn look passed Eukarya's face at the thought of the ocean. She truly did miss the ocean air and the sound of rolling waves.
Turning her attention back to Xiang, "Do you live near by too? I haven't been here long to meet anyone."

"I live some distance back that way," Xiang said, indicating the way she'd come. She cocked her head. "I've never seen the sea, and I can't remember ever hearing much about it. What's it like? Where is it?" This "sea" sounded interesting, and the "coast" must be in the same place as the sea. Xiang was definitely intrigued by this turn in the conversation.
