I had a debate with the captain of the cheerleading squad in my 1st block today. She was such an idiot because [never having marched] she claims that high stepping marching bands [the ones around here high step 3 feet and then hold for like an eternity dancing/humping the ground] are more difficult to be in and are better than our band [a competitive marching band] because their music is "harder" than ours! I'd like to see her playing 16th note runs at 183 bpm!! Gah! >_<

Also she proved how ignorant she was in the debate by interrupting me constantly and not letting me finish, which made me look like an idiot with incomplete thoughts. I know this isn't the place to complain about it, but I want people to know how idiotic SOME cheerleaders can be -.-

Anyone else have any debates with people like so?

...How does she even know about stuff like that? All the cheerleaders around here are clueless to stuff like that. xd

Hm, well it seems a bit weird to say that a high step band is better because the music is more difficult, when the corps style bands are really the ones that emphasize sound quality and such. High step is more about looking cool. xD

EXACTLY!!

I mean, high step could be difficult, you know, if they went more than just 2 feet and stopped and humped the ground as they usually do. but gah! >_< so ignorant!!!

ha. cheerleaders don't know anything about marching band so they have no right to judge.

I honestly have never had a debate like that with anyone. Personally, I'm not fond of the "Dancing Bands" but in many places, that is what they consider marching band to be. And different bands have different skill levels. You really can't say that you can judge which band will have the more difficult music based on how they march. We don't high step yet we have a baritone section playing 16th note rythms. I think your cheerleader needs to spend a little bit more time watching other bands before she judges all bands on such a small scale.

As for cheerleaders...we really get along well with our cheerleaders. We support them in everything they do and they support us. We work together a lot too, especially in the pep band setting. Maybe it's just the difference between college and high school cheerleaders?

I mean, I have nothing against the cheerleaders unless they make an ignorant opinion over something they know little of and that just really irked me >_<

True. One of our cheerleaders went out with a tenor sax last year. The result was really irritating, 'cos she kept saying that she had to do harder work! Well, I do respect the cheerleaders, but really? At band camp, we see them practice during lunch, and the tenor sax player's ex said they practiced from 10 to 5-or-6... We go from 8 to 8. razz

Not too long agothree band kids, including me, had a fight with a cheerleader in English class. The whole thing was about what was harder: band or cheerleading. It lasted almost all class period, and we even brought the teacher into it. She was little help. Then the cheerleader brought up the fact that they had cheer camp somewhere cooler(she mostly brought up cheer camp, but when we asked her where she said somewhere coler, can't remember where) She claimed a week and a half in arizona heat wasn't much harder. We actually stayed at school and had band camp here, and it was about 100+ degrees outside. frankly i dont know how that could be easier

I've only had fights about which is harder with some chick in cross country. Everyone else we get along fine with, because they see us practice and perform. There's no tension here.

Wait, why is my post on the top? Next post is the topic post.

That is so weird! This isn't the only one either. "Rudeness at band festivals" has a reply put on top too!

My Flute Buddy in marching band is also a cheerleader but shes JV and the JV cheerleaders respect us. Mostly becuase a few of them are like in love with other band members. But the Varsity cheerleaders hate us. We did the school chant at a football game and they freaked out on us! their argument was that "thats our chant! you can't do it!" its not their chant, its the schools and guess what we go to the school too o.O! Haha but the Varsity cheerleaders hate us and think band is dumb along with most P.E. teachers at the school
