It had been a very, very interesting first sevendays since the Impression, by far. Impressing to Nellath had been really, the best thing to happen to A'li since he was dropped off in the Weyr by that search rider (he still never found out their name to give them a few words about dragging him away from his sisters either). Unfortunately, Nellath's two sisters didn't both Impress to girls, though he could see why, they needed the strength of some strong minds to help their cause and keep them from being stepped on in the Weyr, but having to become friendly with a male had never been in his to-do list.

They couldn't be trusted! Well, perhaps a choice few of them could. Nellath had said no ill words at all about her sister's choice, so Y'kar had to be alright. Mine stop fretting already! Of course she picked Hers well, she is smart. Well that was certainly an understatement if he listened to Nellath's tellings of some gossip she'd heard. Still this would take some getting used to, for certain.

He shoves such thoughts aside though, as Nellath so kindly suggested, and picks up his walking pace. They were going to sit by the springs today, away from all of those suffering eyes the Weyr was so filled with. And Nellath did deserve a nice warm soak too, putting up with it all. It was hard to not hear those name callings and poorly hidden insults. Wher dragon indeed, well no matter. He grins despite himself at the sight of steaming water, and hardly any company about. Most of those stuffed up adult dragons were in wing training or having a meal. Mine, I'm going into the water.

"Of course Nellath, I'll sit here for a while first. You deserve the nice space to soak for a bit." Watching the green step into the water so gracefully, A'li grins again. His own sisters would never believe he'd found something better to focus on than them. They'd just better keep themselves out of trouble because now, there were far more important ones to look after than those silly girls he left behind. Far more.

Kannaroth waded steadily alongside her lifemate, watching his movements carefully. "Swimming, humm?" She'd have to learn how to do that... but her limbs wouldn't move in the same way his did. The young green frowned, coming to a halt for a moment before taking a deliberate step forward with one foreleg. Okay. She drew the limb back and then reached forward again, dragged it back... "I think that would work," she said, moving off again at a slightly odd gait, refusing to turn and look at how the bigger dragons were swimming; she wanted to work it out for herself... But swimming could wait; Nellath was over there, and she wanted to see her sister.

"Come on Mine," she instructed, picking up her pace, "let's go and see my clutchmate and Hers." As she drew closer, she greeted her sister with a bugle which thanks to her small size was rather high pitched. "Nellath. How are you and Yours today?" Both looked well to her, but they could well be hiding unhappiness. Life was not being fair to them, not at all.

Y'kar caught up with his lifemate just as she came to a halt, standing up as soon as the water was shallow enough. "A'li," he offered the other young man a slight smile which, for once, was genuine, "how're you doing today?" He didn't bother to faff around with fake embarrassment at being in his underwear, or any other particular pretense for that matter. He wasn't ready yet for the other two members of their little triad to really know him, but he was ready to leave his pretenses behind. Real truth could come later, but lies could stop right now.

At first sound of the bugle, Nellath's eyes immediately light on her sister, swirling a dull, but very content blue at spying her sister. Mine and I are well Kannaroth, as well as we can be with those useless brutes everywhere. Here her eyes lose just a bit of the blue. How is Yours faring? She knew better than to bother asking Kannaroth how she was doing. If she was feeling enough to greet them first, then it must be a good day so far.

The bugle caught his attention as well, and A'li glanced out at the water to see the focus of his thoughts headed their way. Well, can't be helped. "Y'kar, didn't expect to see you." Well that was certainly true, best to not think about people when heading out then who knows who would turn up. "Well enough. Nellath needed a nice break to enjoy the springs before any of those...others decided to come out." An angry look or sharp word really could only do so much when everyone else seems so intent on demeaning you and yours. "Your day going better, I'd hope?"

"Selfish, short-sighted, sycophants. Petty, prejudged, pampered, peons. Giggling greens, blathering blues, boring browns, belligerent bronzes, and grousing golds." Kannaroth's eyes flared red with annoyance as she turned to look at the other bathers. "They all think they're better than us, and they're wrong. They'll realize that one day, to their cost... Still," her eyes faded back to a soft blue and she settled down comfortably in the water, "Mine fares well enough. He is frustrated as we all are, but he's alright."

Y'kar sighed and rolled his eyes, wading in far enough to sir down with the water up to his shoulders. "Not really, we came out for the same reason; it's nice to be away from the ridicule for a little while. I don't know why everybody's taken against us so much, seems the whole Weyr thinks we're useless, and a number of less flattering things too. I think we got the best three dragons ever hatched though, I've not heard of a clutch with only four eggs in it before. Some might call it pathetic," Y'kar's light brown eyes flashed with anger, "but I think it makes us special. Out of all the candidates, we three were chosen. It's not much," he shrugged, the anger fading from his countenance, "but it makes me feel a bit better when somebody starts off."

Nellath only nods her agreement to everything her sister says, adding in her own light rumble of a growl. They'll never be better than us. She too settled down a bit once that long list was completed, letting a wing stretch out in the nice warm water. It is good that Ours are able to handle them. It will just make them stronger when we finally put everyone in their place.

"They think we're useless because we have Greens, and our greens, to everyone else, have problems. I doubt a single one of them could ever point out a more loyal trio though if they tried. That's their problem right there!" A'li nods fervently, taking a seat just at the water's edge. "All they have loyalty to is that pair of Queens, and what makes them special, a shiny hide?" No matter what protectiveness he'd felt for girls, he'd never have such bonds with a Queenrider unless they were one of his adopted sisters before Impressing. But even then.. A glance at the two greens enjoying the water, and he frowns just a bit. No, he'd drop all ties to keep with Nellath's best interests.

He nods to the last note, agreeing completely. Yes, that's right. Even if he would have to get over his distrust of males, for one rider, they were chosen against everybody else and their greens needed them. So then, Y'kar was similar to himself in that light, so not a chance he could be bad, at all. And of course they were all special! Theirs had chosen them for a reason hadn't they? They would all three have names for themselves here too, forever most likely, just for the fact that they did survive and Impress against whatever the Weyrfolk had to say about it. "I remember their sister that didn't make it, and it makes me angry, but relieved too. Hers wasn't here, but we were here for Ours, so they wouldn't have to go through what she had."
PostPosted: Fri Oct 23, 2009 3:01 pm

"Humm..." Kannaroth swished her tail back and forth slowly, pondering her sister's words. "Yes," she agreed eventually, "it will be good for them all to toughen up, and we will triumph in the end. We face great adversity, but from adversity comes great strength and courage. That boost combined with our already considerable physical and mental prowess will raise us above the jeering crowd. One day," she purred, "one day we shall be the ones on top."

Y'kar scowled and nodded his agreement. "You're dead right there, and even the other green riders like to look down on us because at least they came from a good clutch, or whatever pathetic excuse. They're all too blinded by what they've decided we are to see what strength the three of them give to one another, and to us as their riders. I'd be happy to lay odds that they won't see it until it is far, far too late to get on our good side." Just what were they planning to do? They could hardly take over the Weyr or anything dramatic like that... but if all three of them earned positions of power, then at least most of the people who had sneered at them would suffer.

"I can't imagine how bad it would have been if you in particular weren't there," Y'kar said after a moment, pulling his thoughts back to the present. "I've never seen a dragon with as much force and anger at birth as your Nellath. She's an amazing green." Not as brilliant as Kannaroth, but no doubt perfectly suited to A'li. "I wish the last green could have made it," he added with a shake of his head, "but as you say, at least the three of us were there." Would Kannaroth have chosen someone else had he not been? She was brilliant and resourceful, but had high standards. She might have preferred to die than accept second best, and he could imagine how it would have gone. She would have stood there, proud, brilliant, beautiful in her anger, and without even a mournful cry she would have gone.

"Oh shush," the green chided, "you were there, and that is what matters. don;t waste your time thinking about what could have been." Humans: sometimes even hers was stupid.

Nellath chances a quick dunk of her head to, for a few short seconds, have every part of her nice and warm. They will see just how great we are, or they'll wish they could have seen it sooner before making enemies of us! And at the moment, they were all enemies. No one but her two sisters were worth anything to Nellath for the time being. Let the two moody queens have their temper tantrums about it if they must but they were even less worth.

"Their ideas of a good clutch are skewed. I've seen enough of those to know the difference. They weren't good, they were spoiled. Long flight, large number of eggs coddled by everyone. Our clutch was looked down on from the start, being so small. But they were perfect." He frowns more to himself. "Perhaps the only ones to know what it's like for us are the females who Impress to anything but gold. They ship off the brownriders before even letting them have a chance. We get the chance." And they would certainly make very good sue of it too!

"Nellath is strong, if not me she would have found someone else." Though that wasn't really a pleasant thought either. "I can't see her as giving in to die and leave her remaining sisters behind. Sisters are everything."

Nellath turns her head towards their riders and gives as low a creen as she can manage. Not just sisters, Mine. Sisters and our riders. We wouldn't have left them alone! That earns her a small grin from Hers as he nods his agreement.

Kannaroth smirked, and shifted position to pose like a stuck up queen. "What possible use could three greens be?" she trilled. "I mean all they have is brains, brawn, courage, loyalty to one another... Where as me! Look at me! I'm gold, and so I'm the very best thing that ever lived, and I deserve to get the nicest food thank you so much! Pah," she dropped the pose, grinning wickedly, "they have no idea what they're in for."

"Well quite," Y'kar nodded, splashing warm water onto his face, "I've never seen a group of dragons so dedicated to one another. We'll show them." He couldn't quite agree with A'li's comparison between the three of them and female riders. People didn't think their dragons were useless, they were scorned for stealing a dragon that should have gone to a man, not for being plain useless. There were similarities though, both they and female riders would have trouble earning respect, and would really struggle to earn positions of power. He supposed that made it close enough not to quibble; he didn't want to make A'li dislike him after all. Sometimes, he supposed, he would always have to lie a little bit even to people he was considering coming to like. That was how life went; some things were better left unsaid.

"I'm not sure what Kannaroth would have done," he went on with a shrug, "I suppose I hope she would have found someone... But the idea of her being with anyone else is nearly unbearable. She's mine, I can't contemplate her being anyone elses."

Nellath very well snickers at her sister, if such a sound could compare to it. They will find out though. No shiny colors can stop us from proving ourselves, and Ours. Mine hates them all without our help, the males. He can easily come to hate those silly queens as they are so useless to us.

A'li gives a nod to that, sparing a glance over to their dragons at Nellath's sound, but she seemed to be enjoying herself so no worrying. "No dragons are like ours. They only care for Theirs, and their positions. Ours, care for each other, and Theirs too. We'll just have to fight for a position." It was a shame that things were like that, handed on shiny platters to those 'special' dragons, while they would have to scrape and fight for it.

"We at least don't have to worry about it though. Ours won't ever be gone, and we have them. I do like to think though that they'd have found another if we hadn't been there, someone who could still help them with this trouble." But he'd be Threadburned before he'd ever even think about His with someone but him, after finding her.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 24, 2009 1:21 pm

"I hope he does not hate Mine," Kannaroth said, perhaps a little tartly. She suspected Nellath's didn't, he seemed relaxed, but then she knew all about humans who were good at seeming. "Still," she went on, turning her head to the side slightly, hoping to diffuse any anger her tone might have stirred up, "it's good to know he can come to see things our way... If a queen, or any dragon, would just respect us I would be willing to give them a chance, but as it stands they are all against us. We'll show them though, we'll triumph in the end." How often were they going to repeat that sentiment to one another? Was it because they were so sure that they would, or because they feared they would not and needed to reassure themselves? An interesting question to ask herself, one she would have to ponder more fully at a later date; she reminded Y'kar to remind her, just in case she didn't think of it again before it slipped her mind.

"Mmm, yea, I'd rather they found others than nobody at all... Like you say though," Y'kar shook himself slightly, "we don't need to think about that. What we need to think about is the future I guess, our plan of actions... Being average in anything just won't cut it," he went on, getting into the swing of his idea. "We'll have to work three times as hard in our lessons, can't give them any ammunition other than our dragons' attitudes. If we're excelling, even if our lifemates aren't friendly they'll have no right to pick at us, or deny us the chances that any green rider would have. Sure they might deny us and mock us anyway, but to outsiders everyone but us will look like bullying fools, and over time we might start to find ourselves with allies." Frowning deeply as he pondered, Y'kar ran his fingers through his dark hair. "I think that should work," he nodded, "become beyond reproach in everything that matters. Either that will one day earn us respect, or when a chance comes along with all the knowledge and experience we've built up, we'll be prepared to grab it, take full advantage of it." He wouldn't be caught lacking when opportunity knocked on the door; it was time to start throwing themselves into their work harder than ever. They'd show them, they'd show them all!

Nellath pauses just a moment to look over and listen to Hers' mind. He does not mind Yours, but he is unsure. Sisters are easier to trust for him, but Yours is proving to be good. She seems to let that tone slip past, Kannaroth's actions didn't show anything ill meant for Hers, so she could ignore it was said in that way. Of course we will! We should start with undermining the two smaller Queens, prove how much better we are than them. All the bigger dragons talk of them and Theirs nearly as much as they go about us.

A'li looks thoughtful for but a moment before nodding, and bearing a faint grin. "Nellath wouldn't accept me to even try slacking off in lessons. She and her sisters are so much better than any of those in the large clutches, she wouldn't stand for anything less than full effort in things to prove it." But of course, if their lessons were handled by a male, that might give some small issues. And what if they winded up being assigned to different wings once they were of age? Hm, though that could possibly work for their advantage, spread their efforts out. "No one outside of the Weyr would ever suspect the best students at anything harmful.. from what I hear too, High reaches doesn't much like our Weyr. They end up taking all the females who Impress to browns. Allies could be made of theirs."

A short pause, and he has to voice that thought aloud though. "What of Wing assignments, when Ours are old enough? What would we do if we are all placed differently?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 24, 2009 2:40 pm

"That is... fair enough," Kannaroth said slowly. "Mine is not very easy for humans to get to know usually, but he is making a big effort with Yours and Roseth's. He wants to become close with them as the three of us are close. When they manage to get to know and trust one another, we shall be all the stronger for it." She liked the idea of putting one over on the younger queens, she liked the idea of putting one over on anyone out of her in-group, and so frowning to herself, the small green began to plot. What did she know about them, about their weaknesses that she could use against them? She would think more about that later too.

"Yea," Y'kar grinned, "I'm amazed by how strong they all are. I guess Kannaroth is about average in strength for a green her age, but her sisters make her look weak! Their brains were a surprise too, I don't think any dragon - or team of dragons even - could out-think the three of them working together." His was the smartest. He didn't say it, didn't need to brag or anything, it was just how she was; physically less powerful and enduring, but with an amazing mind in that small skull of hers.

Nellath gives a small nod, looking over at the riders again, judging the pair of them lightly. Yours seems to be very smart, but he must be to keep up with you Sister. So, in this meaning she could see how Kannaroth's rider could be hard to know. Mine will get used to him soon, he won't be near any others but Ours. And perhaps still keeping an eye on the few girls he grew somewhat attached to, make sure they keep out of trouble.

"Yours is going to be quite a flyer though. She's small enough that she'll probably be the fastest of the three of them." Hm, that could make sense, if what he'd been told, seen, and guessed himself about the other green, her mind was very quick. So flight being quick enough to act on the instant should be fitting. "Nellath is strong, but they mock her a bit more for it. Wher dragon, she is nothing like those things.." Not at all. True she was easy to anger, and very abrasive to those outside their small circle, and strong, but that was nothing to use as a basis for such a demeaning name.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 25, 2009 6:14 am

Kannaroth grinned, dipping her head slightly to acknowledge the compliment. "That he is, and he is devious enough for me as well. I couldn't have dealt with some uptight thing who wouldn't bend or break the rules when it would be in our best interest." Her best interest. She loved her sisters, but if they ever got in her way... Well, she wouldn't ever harm them on purpose, but sometimes you just had to go for what you wanted and forget the rest. Had she been born gold, Kannaroth was confident that she would have risen to power very swiftly indeed. Fate, however, had not been handing out easy rides to any of their clutch. She was going to have to work uphill against the odds... and maybe she would have to befriend a queen. She didn't want to do that, but if she could get close to a dumb one she could control it, and eventually the whole Weyr. It was only an idle daydream really, but she nudged Y'kar to keep hold of the idea all the same.

Y'kar acknowledged Kannaroth's request silently before turning his attention back to A'li with a smile. "Well, we'll have to see. She is pretty small, so she has the potential for that. We won't know until we start flying, and shells know that seems like an eternity away. With only three of us, we're going to get through the theory lessons so fast that we're not physically ready for the practical ones... Hu. Speaking of practical ones, I wonder how the weyrlingmaster is going to manage ground drills with us? Three people can't be made into a wing, we couldn't fill out even one of the formations especially as we're all green... I guess that might mean more theory." Great. Just great. Ah well, it was the weyrling master's problem, not his.

Nellath gives a short, rumbling laugh as she watches her sister. There is trouble headed the way of any who underestimate your mind sister. And, well for anyone who looked down upon the lot of them. She could earn that wher dragon title if they insisted on calling her by it.

A'li nods a bit. "We'll all see though won't we. Which one is faster, which can last longer in the air.. Their sister might like the small competition?" He starts to frown the more that Y'kar speaks of what their lessons could hold. "I'd hope we get more than theory if we want to prove ourselves competent enough to get outside support. But well, no one really says anything is wrong with practicing outside of the lessons, do they?"
