((Rites rp for Nahodha'kota & Khepri's family)) His dark mane fluttered in the wind as he stood looking out at the sea, coal black eyes smiled as he looked across each of his young charges, each one of them a child of his and khepri's, little fluffy miracles of the sea. He chuckled to himself and turned to nuzzle his mate, the blood red lioness had stood at his side for as long as he could remember, she was his rock, his hard place, the place he knew would always be there no matter what and today, they were about to see their own cubs joined with the sea. Today they would be seen as true adults in the eyes of the pride. He was so proud of them. The oldest male watched his father quietly, Vuai stood beside his parents with a smile on his maw, his own golden eyes full of love and adoration for his younger siblings and what they were about to do, it was a big part of life, your rites, he remembered his own, a very private ceremony performed between him and his father, it had been a choice, he had left and returned to the sea, he didn't want anyone else there, so just he and his equally large father had performed the rites together. It had been special, this rites though, was equally special, the whole family together, even his best friend the vulture had joined them.Pelleas flapped his wings, although this wasn't his ceremony, he knew better than to be his usual brash self here, this was important. He had been with Vuai for the longest of times now, returned with him from his journeying and he barely ever left his lion friends side. He sat in his usual position, perched atop the lions head, his belly buried in the dark red mane. "Good look kids." He squawks, settling his wings and smiling at the younger lions (well, his eyes smiled, beaks can't do much smiling), he was pleased to be allowed to witness this, pleased to be a part of this family as Vuais best buddy. The only male of the newest youngsters belonging to 'Kota and Khepri stood with his chest puffed out, his golden eyes stared excitedly at the sea. He had been in the water many times, well mostly in the shallows where his father would allow him to paddle, but today was important, it was the day he faced the waves and became the guard he knew he would always be, following in the paw prints of his father and his older brothers. Looking across at his four sisters he beams and nudges each one in turn, he was confident, he wasn't sure how confident his sisters felt but he wouldn't let anything happen to them. They were his sisters and there fore needed to be protected by him, the newest guard of the family. His toes ticked with the excitement of it all and he looked back at his overly large father and mother, he already stood just a head under his hairy dad and was confident he would reach the heights of his brother Vuai. Taking a deep breath he walks towards the sea, pausing to wait fr his sisters to join him, this was after all, a family thing, they would go in together as kids and come out as real adults, contributing members of the pride he adored.

Tarnished golden eyes stared out at the sea, almost hauntingly as she remembered the good and bad about her life all in one go. It was hard to believe that she was here, standing by the sea with all of her children ready to become adults in the eyes of the pride. It was what every parent wanted to see their children do in their lives.
With how her life had been going before she came back to Kota, Khepri was suprised that she was even able to see this. It felt as if her heart would swell up and break at the thought of not having been allowed to see it. However Khepri had been brought up on harsher sands than any of the lions around her and her feelings didn't reach her gruff features until Kota nuzzled the side of her head.
A soft smile spread over Khepri's muzzle and she licked the side of Kota's ear. He was the only lion she'd met that was about her size and she was still a little taller than her coal black mate.

As red as his mother and as black as his father, Isitini was sitting a little further distance away from the rather large grouping of his family. It felt odd to imagine that all of them were members of the pride who's lands they were standing on except for him. The feeling made the heart in his big red chest tighten down just a bit. But he soothed it a tad when he thought of Sioda. It took him a second to hide the grin from his face, but the silent lion watched as his younger siblings proved themselves in the eyes of the pride. It almost made him want to grin with pride for how young they were.

Probably the most boistrous of all the young females ready to run into the waves, Artemis was bouncing on her red paws, excited and wiggling with the opportunity to find fish or maybe more in the water. She was always hunting and her father and mother often treated their smallest daughter as if she were so breakable that she wouldn't be able to hunt in the waters that called to her bones. Her red toes curled in the water and the bright coal eyes sparkled as she saw what looked like the tail of a fish splash in the water not too far off. She could have swam out that far if her parents had believed in her, if Poseidon had believed in her.
Artemis jittered for the chance to prove that she was a good hunter, that she was just as strong as anyone in her family was.

Today was the day. Today was the day that she was going to DIE! Aphrodite shivered outwardly, as she knew what was to come. She had been talking to her best friend, Kiburi the other day about how she was dreading this day so very much. While her friend cheered her on and told her she could do it, she wasn't very confident at the moment. She hated the water! Even worst...she wasn't all that good of a swimmer as her siblings are, but tries to hide it the best she can.
She spots her family somewhere close to the shoreline and stops about as far away from the water as she could. While her siblings were all eager and excited, she was far from being excited. This was the worst!

Tyche was one of the first out by the water with Poseidon. This was so exciting! They finally got to prove themselves to the world (or their world, really, in the pride of the Bahari) by this act. She had, many times, been in the water when the waves began to get a bit violent. That gave her an advantage, such as it was.
But she glanced at her sister Aphrodite, and knew her brown sibling's fears at once. The other was not so keen on the water. That was a bit of a curse to be afraid of water in a water-based pride. If she could, Tyche would help her sister. Even if they entwined their tails together once under the water, perhaps knowing that she and their other siblings were here with her would help Aphrodite.
So she gently nudged her sister when she came up beside them, smiling in reassurance.

Eurydice looked to be the calmest of her siblings, who all were either excited, nervous, or one thing or another. She herself was proud to be doing these rites of passage with her family; the sea, the waves, the water... It called to her like it called to her family.
Well, perhaps not all... she chuckled quietly, looking around at her brothers and sisters with a loving smile. Eurydice was the one who probably stood out the most in her family, seeing as she was literally almost white but for the marking on her forehead and her paws. The rest of her family had black, red, or brown colorings, but well, they all were family, one way or another.
She shivered slightly, feeling somewhat overwhelmed. The sea! The call of the sea breeze, the crashing waves...! When she and her siblings entered, they would no longer be cubs... they would come back as adults. She stood from where she sat, next to Tyche, and began to follow Poseidon, who had taken the lead, before stopping and waiting for his sisters. "Ach, Ah canna wait, brother!" she spoke, excitement in her voice despite how calm she looked.

Poseidon moved up to Aphrodite and nudged her gently, leaning his shoulder against his chocolate and pink sister he gives a wink "Jus' stay by me lassy" He whispers, fixing his paws to the sands and using himself as a bollard almost, something that his sister could use as a float even if she was too frightened. The water washed up around his legs and he took a deep breath, he was excited, nervous, joyful, this was his rites and as the water washed around his legs, he knew soon he would be a guard just like his dad and brothers. It was a proud moment and he smiled broadly to each of his siblings without glancing back at their parents, the future was before him, the future was the sea coming towards them.
The big black lion on the beach tenses slightly, he hoped each of his children would be okay, they would look out for one another but even though this was one of his proudest times, he was afraid. He was ready to run to the waters and save any of his cubs from the waves if the sea should try and sweep them away. He chuckles slightly, they weren't cubs any more, they had grown up so fast he almost forgot they were about to become adults in the eyes of the pride.
Watching his younger smaller siblings as the waves started to hurl at their bodies, the big black and red male gave a sigh. It was good to see them all together, taking the journey to adulthood as one. His little brother and sisters weren't so little any more.

Silently Khepri watched all of her cubs with a deep sort of pride that she could only get when she looked at them and imagined all the things that they could do in their young lives. The large ex-firekin had seen many things in her long life and had walked nearly everywhere on the savannah in search of something herself. Now that she was here she wasn't about to leave the safe lands of her pride but she knew that her daughters and sons would be tempted to travle someday.
Slowly she hefted her giant body to her feet and the muscled female walked over to her brown and pink daughter slowly. Khepri was gruff and had a tendency to fail in showing affection where it was deserved but she was also a mother and understood the way that the ocean could scare one of her babies. She herself hadn't ever seen the sea before she began to wander and there was still a fear in her bones for it. One of her large paws patted Aphrodite on the back and she smiled down at her with her white muzzle in a reassuring smile.
"Yo'll be fine. Ah won' le' nothin' 'appen to yo'." Khepri drawled slowly.
Isitini's dark eyes watched his siblings closely in case anything happened, though he knew nothing would ever happen that his parents couldn't handle. Kota was strong and a great swimmer and Khepri was fast despite her enormous size. Even Vuai would keep his eyes on them. It felt as if he wasn't meant to be a part of this and his black paws shuddered in the need to run off towards the rock caves again. However he kept his dark eyes on his siblings, knowing that he would remember this and keep a story of it for later in his large heart so that everyone would know of his brother's strength, of his sister's bravery, and of his little sister's excitement.
It was hard to wait on her sisters when she knew that she wanted to dive in. Sure she was often a little callous at times and she could very easily forget about her family even, but Artemis turned around and locked her black eyes on Aphrodite with a grin. While she was ready to go running off into the water, her larger sister wasn't and looked like she was about to start running away.
Well she wouldn't have that. Artemis turned around, away from the water, and walked over to her sister happily, her black tail thrashing in excitement. Squashing her own enthusiasm for the water was hard but she bounced a little less and smiled at Aphrodite.
"I'll help you sis." Artemis said in her light voice, of all her siblings she had the least accent and none of them could figure out why not since they all did from their parents.

All this attention from her family made Aphrodite feel very, very small. She didn't it, she didn't need to go into the water. Pink orbs glanced at each member, knowing that their concerns were well-founded, but she had hoped that this day would never come. Silently wishing that this was all just a bad dream, she gave her family members a small, nervous smile as she watched them go closer to the shoreline while she stayed put.
She was silently combating with herself. Ashamed, she thought of what Kiburi would say if she saw her best friend scared stiff? Embarrassment flushed across her face as she tentatively took one step forward and then another. Each step towards the shoreline and where her siblings were made her heart beat faster and faster. If she wasn't going to die of a heart attack she was going to die drowning! All the worst things that could possibly happen were floating through her mind at this very moment.
It was all just making her more nervous as she was close enough to the shoreline that the water was almost touching her toes. She was going to die. She was going to die. She IS going to die! She cried out silently inside her head as her fear was starting to take over.

Eagerly, Tyche bounced forward to join the others as the water slowly crept closer and closer, soon going above their toes to sweep gently on their ankles. Her mother's words also resounded in her, even though they had been directed towards her sister.
Mother was protective. Mother wouldn't let anything happen to any of them.
Not that Tyche was worried, oh no. But just in case...it was nice to know they had a safety net. And not only would Mother jump in and help, but so would their older siblings and Father, too.

She was practically wriggling to jump into the water, but knew that they as a family had to convince Aphrodite that everything would be okay. The sea was a family friend and protector, but though being dangerous, the sea was ever present and would never betray them. Eurydice was a strong believer that their sea-faring family would never be betrayed by the sea, and it saddened her to know that one of her sisters were frightened of it.
Turning, she smiled at her sister. "Aphrodite, don' ye worry aught! The sea, it be our friend! Ye know that us'n will be in eet wit' ye. Come now, it canna 'urt ye while Pa and Ma are 'ere, and ye got us'n wit' ye, too, o' course!" She tried her best to encourage her worried sister, since Aphrodite's fear was becoming ever present.
Eurydice herself could be said to be in love with the sea, much like her sister Artemis. However, her family always came first, and now she wished with all her might that she could do something to ease Aphrodite's fear. She didn't like the fact that her sister was so scared, and she wanted to do something to help... but what?

The dark burly male walked up to Khepri and gave her a nudge "Come away lassy, they need ta do it umselves." He smiles a loving smile ot his blood red mate, he knew all this encourgement and nudging was doing the chocolate and pink daughter no good, she was getting more and more nervous of the waves. "We'll be back ere if you need us." He gives Khepri a nudge and nods to each of his cubs in turn sitting down ont he sands to watch. There was no point fretting. They had to do this to become real members of the pride, f they didn't they would forever be cubs. He didn't want that.
Vuai watches his father quietly, a smile on his maw. He knew that 'Kota was as frightened for the kids as some of the kids were, but he also knew that he wanted to see them succeed, they all wanted to see htem succeed. Moving over to his blood red litter mate the blood red maned male licks his brother and pulls his ear "their turn Isitini lad, aint ya prou' o our lil sibbies?" He smiles restign next to his brother. He could see isi felt uncomfortable. "Once their done we should go fer a swim like we used to." He winks at his brothe r" we can be a catchin' some fish together wut?"
Pelleas clacks his beak from the big lios head and ods to the brother of his best friend. He didn't know Isitini very well, but if vuai and he were gunna fish with Isi, they would get to know each other better. "Tides startin to come in fast, on ya go kiddletts!" the bird cackles moving in the deep blood red mane to get more comfortable.
Poseidon sighs heavily, having to move in and out of the water was becoming a bit tiresome, he wanted to be floating already. Moving to stand behind Aphro, he nudges her butt forwards so her paws are at least in the water. He wasn' tryng to be rough, well, he was, but he was also trying to encourage. "In ya get lassy, ya aint gunna loose ya pink fer goin in tha sea!" The black and white male smiles and licks his sisters cheek parking himself along side her "Come ere ya big sissys and stand by me we'll weather it together so we sill." He grins roguishly at each of his sisters. being the only boy in the litter he had to be rough, tough and ready to protect his little sisters, if that meant teasing them, then so be it! Thats what brothers were for, to taunt them til they reacted. "Cast yer anchores lassys tha sea aint gunna wait ferever."

Her eyebrows pulled together, but Khepri nodded her head at her large mate and slumped her shoulders slightly. Of course she knew that her babies had to become adults in the eyes of the pride, but it still hurt to see Aphrodite so afraid of the water when she understood how she felt and it hurt to know that they wouldn't be her babies anymore. They'd be adults.
It left a lump in her throat and a tiny hole in her heart that her children would be all grown up and running around on their own without their parents help. Without her. It was the way things were though, all her babies had to grow up and learn that their mother was just their mother. Khepri couldn't keep her large paws on them forever, it would crush her little ones. Sighing heavily she flopped on Kota's paws and curled her toes in the sand as she watched them.
Dark eyes glanced at the sudden appearance of his littermate. Isitini turned his head to glance at the larger lion and chuckled in his dark chest. His ebony mane fluffed out around his head and the lion nodded his head. "Ah'm proud of 'em. Ah'll tell stories for 'em for years."
Another chuckle pulled from him at the mention of swimming. He loved to swim. Loved it as much as he loved his family, but he wasn't that much of one for crowds or demonstrative gestures. Isitini was more of one to roll on his back and stare at the waves all day long to learn stories. Like the waves whispered to him.
"Ah'll go swimmin' wi'h ye if ye wan'." Isitini grinned almost wickedly at his larger brother.
Anchor? What anchor? There were only bouyes! Artemis flung herself at the waves up to her elbows, her tail thrashing out behind her and her eyes dancing like the waves themselves. She was dying to float, to swim, to dive. TO FISH!
A fish darted by her in the undertow and her paw struck out playfully, a bubbly giggle flying from her muzzle and flitting across the distance. Her whole tiny body was writhing with utter joy for the ocean and she couldn't get in fast enough for her heart to be happy, her siblings were almost holding her back at this point. Artemis would be over her ears now in the water, in fact she was dying to be.

All the support was encouraging but this fear was something that she had to deal with on her own. No other lion would get her through this but herself. Each step forward, she trembled outward. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine that she was any other place then here. Why oh why did this have to happen to her?!
The water was cold and uninviting to her. She hated it. She hated the water, the smell, everything about it! Why couldn't she have been born to a pride not with water!
Her face was all wrinkled with fear and horror as she could hear her siblings ahead of her, enjoying the water as she wished she could just curl up and cry.
She opened her eyes to narrow slits as she needed to at least see where she was going. The water was rising more and more around her, making her tremble with fear. Her paw caught a rock on the bottom of the oceanfloor as she lurched forward into the water. Completely soaked as she came back up, she was so upset. Why was this happening to her? WHY! She yelled in her mind as her ears were flat against her head fearfully.

She wasn't sure if she should continue to help her sister. Of course, the entire family was offering their support and while she knew that Aphrodite appreciated all the concern and encouragement, Tyche couldn't help but think that it still wasn't doing much. In her ways, her pink sister could be mighty stubborn.
"Remembah when I tricked you into comin' into the water to save me?" She asked her frightened sister. That had been so long ago, hadn't it? When they had been cubs? The sudden realization that they were now going to be considered adults almost made Tyche stop in her tracks, even though the rising waters were floating her closer and closer to the open sea and farther away from shore.
The red and black lioness swam eagerly towards her other siblings, the girls and the one brother, in order to not be left behind and to fully enjoy being in the salty waters. Through danger and peace, this ocean was always there for their pride.
