How the hell do Vampire fangs even function?
I mean what is the purpose of having them? Do they act like a lions teeth to tear people open so they can get at their blood, or are they hollowed out and used to suck it like a mosquito? And if the later is the case; where does the blood go?! O_o
Edit: Also, why does eating human blood and eating animal blood alter your eye color in Meyers realm? Comparing that to real life meat eaters and vegetarians; I don't think your diet effects your appearance THAT much. -_-

actually, that's an interesting question. I suppose with different books/ vampire series, the answers will vary according to author interpretation of the vampire. For me, tearing open the throat does not make much sense. Actually, somewhere - maybe in Meyer's website or in some interview, sorry, I can't remember so take this with a grain of salt- she said something about how her vampires do not have fangs- they use all their teeth and it makes them more deadly? (It was something along those lines)
To me, you rip the throat out and blood will gush out, so how much of it will the vampire get in his/her mouth? Not much, and a lot of it would be wasted, possible leading to having to kill more people to get a full stomach.
I always thought the fangs were just used for puncturing and the vampire kinda sucked/ slurped the blood.

I think they're just to tear holes and rip people apart, which the vampire removes themselves for a second, goes back, and sucks out the blood.
Don't question Meyer's logic; she'll throw a hissy fit and divide by zero- oh shi-

I agree with Crystal. They tear like beasts! Cause they're cannibal animals, yeah, *breaks out into singing Rage Against the Machine songs*

Well yes, beasts, monsters, etc.
Folklore states that some vamps just had really freakin sharp teeth, longer canines, but not necessarily fangs.

Scrape and lick. Scrape and lick.
Aaah, I always thought they were like...snake teeth. Sharp and hollow. With...turbo suction action.

. . . Maybe SMeyer's vampires are some sort of descendants of ancient mosquitos. . .
At any rate, I don't really think that changing color or eye color is that weird, as these creatures are both fictional and can be made to look like whatever the author wants. If that includes sparkling in the sun like a couple of pom-poms, so be it. However, that doesn't mean that Anti-Twilighters won't tell SMeyer that blood suckers should not sparkle but rather dissolve, screaming, when exposed to the sun.

I think they are just a function of piercing holes into the jugular for a quick blow so that the blood flows easily to be slurped up. I've heard stories where there is also a venom in the vampire's saliva to make wounds heal easily.
Also, the blood goes into the vampires, feeding their near dead cells. Thus, when they are cut, they bleed the blood remaining in them from they fed. Usually in some stories the way vampires are made is that they are bled completely out and at the point of death from insanguination( sp? this computer doesn't have spell check like mine does) they take in their maker's blood that makes them one of the immortal beasts.

Aaah, I always thought they were like...snake teeth. Sharp and hollow. With...turbo suction action. Yea but snake teeth push venom out where as a Vampire would be sucking blood inwards. Would that mean they have some blood holding pouch in the roof of their mouth like a snake has a venom pouch? O_o

I always thought they had hollow fangs, so they could just suck it straight out. It could be bite and lick, though. Vampire bats do that. But then...do normal vampires have a solution, or something, that prevents the blood from clotting? And if not, then what the hell?

I always thought it was to tear the neck open like some other people have stated. Sharper the fangs, the easier it is. Longer for deeper wounds? I don't know.

One question (one that I use to piss off Vampire role players XD); how do you close your mouth when you have ridiculously long fangs?
