The hours went by, and he was only conscious for some of them. Sometimes, he did little more then stared out into the night, his back pressed up against cold door that had been his once chance. At what? What had he hoped for, coming here? He could have just as easily crawled back to his place to die, so where had Nealite gone? His thoughts trailed off as he noticed the corners of his vision beginning to blur. Could have gone blind, thanks to that b***h.

With a pained noise, the man left his head dip again, slumped there until he let himself doze off again. Hell, even if he wanted to leave, he didn't think he could physically manage it at this point. His lungs caught on fire each time he inhaled, and it only vaguely occurred to him that he might need to go to a hospital. Well, ******** that. ******** that a lot. He'd wait.

It was starting to get colder outside, and as the minutes ticked by, he was left with little more than his thoughts and the chain wrapped around his wrist, the starseed still clenched tightly in his fist. Prizes, all of them. It'd been worth it... but now that his earlier, exalted emotions were winding down, he had to wonder--had it been? He'd failed to obtain her starseed, the one thing most precious.

But if that had been a normal senshi, then he'd bite off his own tongue and give it to the General-King himself. He snorted out loud without thinking, then clutched at his ribs and tried not to vomit up a lung.

Had it not been for the excitement of her probation being lifted, Nealite would have passed out in the street, half a mile back.

Finally arriving at her apartment complex, the lieutenant was quick to return to her civilian form and warily began to fish in her pockets for her key. The night had been wild and potentially deadly, but none of that mattered anymore. None. She would get Castor. She would get Astraea. Tonight, though, she would spend her last waking hours in a soothing hot bath with whatever chocolate and wine was left in her kitchen. It was a night to celebrate her return to the working world!

Her feet stopped in their tracks, however, as she noticed the all-too familiar redhead laying slumped outside her door. Blood was everywhere, and he wasn't moving. Christ.

She walked forward and crouched down, wincing from her own chest and back pain. Ignoring the throbbing within her collarbone area, one hand moved to rest itself on the other Lieutenant's head. It was still warm. Good.

Moving to rest her forehead on his shoulder, she gently shook her head, whispering, "Oh Obby, what have you gotten yourself into this time?"

It was only her touch that served to rouse him, the surprisingly soft words making him stir a little as though confused. His eyes flickered once over her face, and then again, and with his own visage help up towards the light, it was easy to see the bruises, the swollen lips, the almost sunken look to him. But he smiled, regardless, aching fingers reaching out to feebly grasp at the hand closest to him, bringing it close so his lips could gently brush over the backs of her knuckles.

"You remember the time we first met?" He asked her almost absently, not asking where she'd come from, where she'd been, why she was looking almost as banged up as he felt.

The man chuckled lightly to himself until his breath hitched with pain, leaving him silent and trembling as he tried to collect himself. "So ********' full of ourselves..." He finally said after a time, his tone still light and the humor there, but it seemed almost bittersweet.

"And that's changed how, exactly?"

She'd almost ended up toppling over when he initially grabbed her hand, but managed to stay atop her feet as his mouth met with her knuckles. The gesture was sweet, almost to the point of being sad.

Romantic b*****d, no wonder she used to cling to him so much.

Remaining silent for a few moments, she once again recalled where exactly the two of them were and her free arm was quick to loop itself around his.

"C'mon, you b*****d, time to make your way inside." Ursula grunted as she tried to lift his weight, forcing herself to ignore the blood stains the redhead was smearing onto her clothing, "We can't both be hanging out here, looking like we've been ******** over. Neighbors might have something to say about that!"

"We aren't so dumb anymore." He protested, his words cutting off with a groan as she helped to physically pull him up. It felt like his sides were splitting, and he doubled over for a minute to draw a few ragged breaths, feeling somewhat shaky.

"That so." He grunted even as he did his best to hobble inside, every inch of him hurting. "M'gonna ******** them over if they say s**t." He might have been serious, another time, but there was no way he could do anything much in his current condition. Some random punk off the street could probably take his a**, but the knowledge only soured his mood a little.

"What happened to you?" The man finally questioned, knowing he wasn't the only one sporting some pretty multi-colored bruises today. His were only gonna get prettier by tomorrow, but...

"Sure you will, tiger," she dutifully agreed, the first smile to cross her lips since she'd spotted her fallen comrade. "And then I'll get horrible nasty new neighbors who might actually pry into my business, for once."

Opening the door had been easy. Maneuvering Obsidian in without him dripping blood all over her carpet, however, proved to be impossible.

Ursula found herself biting her tongue as she closed the door behind herself, ensuring the lock was set and in place before leading the wounded man to her couch. Dropping him off there, she made a beeline for the kitchen, refusing to turn around and see how utterly ruined her couch was going to be after this morning.

"Cat," she replied flatly, opening the pantry and pulling out her emergency bottle of vodka. God, at least she could use some, if not them both. She grabbed a hand towel and began running it under the cold tap water.

"And you?"

If it'd been something under his control, he might have tried to bleed less on her carpet. Maybe. As it were, he only grunted and awkwardly lowered himself down to take a seat on the couch. Ursula whisked off again almost immediately, but that was all right; he just sort of groaned and settled himself back as comfortably as he could. Which wasn't very comfortable at all.

"Cat?" He repeated, looking a little confused while immediately searching for the only cat he knew of. "Grendel?"

His own story was at least a little more involved. Sort of. "Senshi. Strongest ******** senshi I've met so far." But he chuckled while he said it, feeling strangely pleased; toughest ******** senshi indeed, and he'd come out on top. Both literally and figuratively, on that note.

An eyebrow quirked up at his response, and the shorter woman made her way back towards the couch, her expression giving away her surprise.

"A senshi?" she reiterated, forcing the bottle into his hand as she nestled herself against the couch and began dabbing at his face, his arms, ********, dabbing anything that looked like it was still bleeding. She was no Nurse Charonite, but she could, at the very least, assist in cleaning up the more horrible looking spots. It would be a miracle for Obsidian to not have to go to the hospital, with wounds as fierce as these.

Ursula had met quite a few senshi as she scouted, but none had ever been so powerful enough to cause damage like this. With Obsidian being one of the strongest Lieutenants, it was startling to see him in such a mess.

"What was her name?" Pausing, she gave it a second or two before dropping, "And no, not Grendel. Astraea. I ran into Astraea down by the gym."

"Ow." Obsidian proclaimed with quiet surprise as Nealite set her nursely wrath upon him without warning, dabbing at scrapes and bruises that he didn't even know he had. Still, he held himself quietly so he wouldn't thrash and potentially piss her off--partially because he belatedly realized she'd given him vodka. Blessed be, this woman, blessed be. Pulling the bottle to his lips, he swigged it, rasping only a little as it burned its way down his throat.

"Didn't say her name. Was already flouncin' around by the time we, ah, met." His fingers ran themselves idly over the starseed he was still holding, as though reluctant to send it on its way.

Then Nea dropped her own little surprise, and Obsidian arched a brow as he turned to look at her, a low whistle slipping past his lips. "Goddamn, got you good, huh? She get away?" He ventured; he figured he'd have been told if she managed to catch her by himself.

"Flouncing, huh?"

She couldn't help but grin as she paused from her dabbing to look at his face. Ursula could just imagine some of the things that might have passed between him and his mystery senshi. Obsidian was ruthless when he fought, so any chick who thought she might stand a chance against him was in for a ride of her life. Even Nealite wouldn't dare oppose him, when he was in one of his moods.

Her gaze moved back to nursing wounds as he turned to look her way. She was still rather bitter about losing the battle thanks to Astraea's last minute appearance.

"Castor was in the gym," she said, her voice slightly quieter than before, "I had his star seed in my hand when he attacked, and Astraea followed suit after."

The towel, now red, was set aside on the coffee table and she took the bottle of vodka from him. "And that's when Charonite found me."

Tilting up the bottle to her own mouth, she let the liquid fire make its way down her throat before pulling it back and wincing.

His eyes were half-closed as she wiped the grime away, feeling how the open cuts stung and made his spine straighten a little as though to unconsciously pull him away. "Flouncin'." He agreed, and a tired grin would pull itself to his face. Like it was his fault half of them dressed like strippers; most of the skirts he'd seen would blow straight up if they weren't careful.

When the young woman began to grimly recall her own tale, Obsidian cracked open an eye to listen. Castor... that punk from before, he remembered him. To be so close to a star seed only to have it ripped away... and then for Charonite to find her after that failure.

Grimacing when she finally seemed to be through, he reached out to take the bottle from her after she winced, downing a little more of the stuff before he handed it back. "...He was alright? With you?"

The alcohol stung as it made its way down her throat, but the warm numbing sensation was soon to follow after, causing her to forget any temporary displeasure from drinking it. Booze was wonderful in that way, really. Relief from the pain, the anxiety, the tension.

Her fingers gently wrapped themselves around the bottle's neck as she listened to his hesitant question. She didn't blame him; Charonite was a ticking time bomb. There was no telling how he would react, he did things of his own accord.

"There wasn't exactly much left of me to beat," she said grimly, attempting to make a joke out of it. "He took me back into his office and we ah.... we talked for a bit."

Silence overcame her for a few minutes, the memory of his awkward questioning of Astraea and her jealous comments that came of that. How could she have been so stupid about that? He'd just wanted to know everything he could about Astraea; why had she taken that so differently?

"And then he took me off probation," came the remainder of the story, "After a few patch ups. So uh, I guess I'm back in the game, eh?"

The oddity of her statement earned a snort out of him, a curl of his lips. It wasn't funny, really, but to Obsidian, it sort of was. Still, he looked a bit more closely at her; looked like some of her wounds had been patched up instead of made worse, and she was still able to relatively straight line, it seemed. Could have been worse.

A brow arched itself as she mentioned probation, and the lieutenant considered that thoughtfully for a moment. So whatever she'd seen, whatever she'd done in that battle even though she'd failed... that had been pretty significant to the General-King. So? Had she done something useful?

Or was it just a sign of favoritism?

With his eyes narrowed thoughtfully, Obsidian nodded at her rhetorical question, not in the mood to feel bitter or riled. "Hopefully won't get taken out of it again." He said meaningfully, eying her for a moment. "That little Castor s**t is becoming less and less funny every time I think about it." He mused, not daring to bring up how he'd punched her lights out by mistake in his first encounter with the senshi. Christ.

She could feel the anger rising in her once more at the thought of that... that little twit who'd bested her not once but twice now.

The bottle jerked up and she downed more of the vodka, though part of it returned up as she sputtered.

"I hate him," she spat out, her eyes glowering at nothing in particular, "I ******** hate him, Drew. I want to tear his little balls off and shove them down that goddamn cocky mouth of his."

Hate was not a strong enough term, in her opinion, for the loathing she shared for the young scout. Twice now he'd humiliated her, twice she'd failed to capture his star seed. The twerp couldn't have been a day older than sixteen and she failed twice at killing him?

As if sensing his topic avoidance, her eyes turned to burn into the wounded soldier. "I swear on my shoe collection, Drew, if you so much as hesitate on killing him next time, I will personally take Shitcakes and do it to the both of you myself."

"I think I do, too." And it was strange that he sounded thoughtful instead of angry or bitter. "Though if I get to watch that little event, I'll probably be content.

He sat tall under her withering stare, resisting the urge to let his lips twitch as she swore on her shoe collection, but that was a great feat for Nealite. "Well, darlin', Shitcakes is a piece of wood. But no, no, there won't be hesitating next time, I just wasn't sure if I'd actually hit a p***s or not."

Obsidian rolled his eyes before he made to mimic the sailor scout. "EEEE!" Of course, that had him hacking and wheezing when his chest threatened to kill him if he continued, doubled over on the couch until he could finally suck in enough air to groan.
