As she settled into her new home, Bara couldn't help but let her mind wander about the time that felt like forever ago. Her old home, old lands. Knowing that it was her father that had ended a pride by driving it into the ground had never sat well with the lioness. She never had the intentions to revive the pride, knowing the damage that her father had done. Regardless, she would always remember her younger days when everything seemed happy. Playmates, lessons, stories, adventures. It was all there, even if there was nothing to return to.

Wrapped up in her thoughts, the lioness reclined in the early morning light, watching as the sun rose to greet the day, the movements on the horizon proof that there was life everywhere, always changing.

Though he was younger than her, Ishida felt feerless as he approached Barafu, a deep rumble of affection emitting from his throat as he offered her a 'hello' nuzzle. He had only happened to stumble across her and her family a time ago, and somehow their lives had intertwined. He would never question the threads of fate, only hope that it would carry him further on the interesting trial of life.

"Good morning," he said, flopping down next to her. The sun's rays weren't quite warm yet, as the crisp night are struggled to keep control over the lands. It would fade soon enough, but their coats could handle the sun. It was the soft glow of a new day that was so refreshing.

"What are you doing out here all alone?" he asked, knowing that the rest of her family were still sleeping in the den.

She was a little surprised to see Ishida up already, but chided herself for thinking so; he was a Malakim, and needed to keep himself in top shape for any duty he would be sent on. And awakening in the early morning hours would only make sense. A fresh mind always greeted the morning sun.

"Thinking," she replied, feeling inadvertantly more relaxed as he grew closer. It was an odd sensation, as she had always been the older sister, the heir, the aunt. The one to take care of everything. And while she was blessed to be in a great position in their new home, it was still a little relaxing to feel the pressures of responsibility slip.

"Mostly about the past," she added on, knowing that she really could be thinking about anything. Having him hanging on her word like that wouldn't be fair.

He reclined himself next to her, his shoulder bumping into her's as he made himself comfortable. The soft morning sun almost seemed to make everything around them sparkle as the dew shrunk back into it's hiding places away from the sun's rays. He inhaled deeply, enjoying the clean air that danced around them.

"The past isn't always something to reflect on," he said carefully, hoping that he wouldn't insult her. He knew only a little of her family's past, and what he had learned had come from her sister, Zuri'ramla. Such a strange lioness she was, though Ishida had taken Bara's advice and dismissed any of these thoughts. She had gone through much, as all the family had, and it was easy to just let the past go.

Which, in a way, proved his point.

She stuck her tongue out at him, reverting to a very childish move to tease him. "I know that," she said, letting her eyes rest once again on the rising sun. "There are times that I can't help it. What would have happened if I hadn't run from home? Would many still have died?" She shook her head.

"Should I ever forgive my father for all the blood on his paws? It has dried now, but it will always rest in the back of my mind." Thinking about how she had crippled him bothered her, though she knew it was for the best. He was bitter that the pride was gone. Their heritage had all disappeared, which was for the best. It had turned into such a dark spot in their history, and it was only right to put it to rest. Start over in a pride that would right the wrong her father had covered her in. She would never be able to completely escape it, but she would do her best to help any that might be in a similar situation.

With a sigh, she rested her head on his forelimb, feeling a bit more secure in the comfort of his mane.

He was content having her take up his offer for comfort. She was normally a little more...distant?...than he had expected, though knowing their mutual feelings it was easier to handle. In the rare moments that she really showed her affection, he could almost purr.

Not letting himself get too wrapped up in the moment, he nudges Bara softly. "Perhaps you should question the past, but why? There's nothing you can do about it; it would be best to lay it down as experience and stand upon it for the future. You will be able to see higher and further than you would have if you haven't seen what you've seen."

He was always getting bits and pieces of his mate's past, but this was more of the first time she had really wanted to discuss it. Normally it was an unsaid understanding that it was something not to be spoken about.

She bowed her head obediently. "I know. I sometimes can't help it, though." She sighed, nestling closer to his soft fur. It was so...odd, being in this situation. She had always been helping her sister out of these sorts of situations, and now she was in one. Except, well...it was something forever. Zuri had never been one to really stick with one male. Her personality was enough to drive any male away from her anyway. As she had slipped out of her slightly odd ways of talking, her self esteem was still crashed down to hell, and Bara couldn't do anything about it. She wouldn't. Zuri had to fix it herself.

"I do have you, though, so why should I worry so much about the past? Though I guess it is easy to do, in a new land with a new position. I never thought I would ever take any sort of position of power, no matter the amount, if I ever decided to join a new pride. It's an odd feeling, and even more odd that sometimes I don't think I know myself." She shook her head, brows furrowed, frowning.

He groomed her cheek, unable to not show his affections in some way. She needed the comfort, and the encouragement to think about happier things. "Maybe things are that way. But you're in a situation where you can prevent something terrible from happening again..." whatever that was. Ishida would figure it out some day, he knew it. He just knew that his erm...father-in-law wasn't the best sort of soul. But as he was crippled now, there was nothing he could do, and he was harmless as long as he stayed quiet. Kweu did make sure of that, though.

Hm. He thought a little more about the family while grooming Bara, pausing for just a moment to speak. "And you know yourself well. Though...well, I wouldn't mind getting to know you better, either," he grinned, knowing that he was walking straight into trouble! Sometimes it was a good way to break a somber mood, though, even at his own expense.

She was a little surprised at the sudden rush of attention she was getting, but she didn't say anything about it. While it didn't make her uncomfortable, it was a little weird to get used to.

"Yes, I know. It is a good place to be, I'm just hoping that i'm up for the job." There was always a tough of doubt within her, and she knew where it stemmed from. She had deserted her home, and even under the best of intentions, it was still a blemish on her record.

With his comment, she nudged him, laughing. "Well, just for that comment you're going to have to wait longer!" It was nice having someone a little younger than yourself to love; it kept you young, and on your toes as well!

"Hm, never let me have any fun," he grumped, poking at her cheek with his nose. Ishida let his eyes wander away towards the sun's rise, feeling the slight warmth from the suns rays. It was past the early morning now, and surely more of the pride would awaken, if they weren't already. At the very least, Bara's parents might be up, and he wasn't sure if he wanted Korongo to ruin the mood he was in.

"Perhaps I should see if I'm needed today," he mused allowed, knowing how his mate would react to his thoughts. It was true, though, he needed to see if in fact he needed to go out into the roguelands for anything. This was his home, and he needed to do his part.

Bara swayed to her feet, stretching as she geared up for another day. "I'll go with you," she offered, assuming that the King might have a need for her. With her position, she always needed to be accessible, and the easiest way to do that was to linger around the gathering areas of the pride. Besides, she was always content to chat and grow more comfortable with other members of the pride. It was her home now, after all.
