After the incident at the gardens Liam, the cyborg had decided it would be best to get Rei use to people. Not everyone shared the same concerns over plants and animals like he did, so learning that people varied was something he had to work on. After explaining that you couldn't kill a plant by de-flowering it Rei had calmed down and even voiced a bit of a apology to him. At least it was a start.

The cyborg wasn't exactly sure what Rei thought of him, other than silently obeying him and walking along his hands tucked into his sleeves. His tail didn't drag on the ground and a simple walk took eons as the poor child was obsessed with making sure he didn't crush a single plant or bug for that matter under his feet. Liam soon learned to help cause no additional stress to program himself to avoid such things as well. It made the walk a lot more pleasant anyway.

The cyborg was still concerned though, Rei hadn't really held any interest in making friends. It worried him. Though a robot feeling concern he was glad he could experience concern and worry it was also a very tedious emotion.

Damon was sitting outside on the pavement, his back leaning against the fence that surrounded his house, plucking idly at the grass and weeds poking out from the cement. Beside him sat a stuffed robot, a small toy plane and a partly eaten dinosaur figurine that looked secondhand and probably were secondhand, but terribly loved all the same.

After a while Damon began pulling every time a car passed by. The boy would wait patiently, sometimes for minutes at a time, to tug out a blade and add it to the slowly growing pile of grass and weed that sat nearly in front of his toys. It seemed such a menial task, silly, even boring, but Damon seemed thoroughly entertained; he even managed a smile when a small ladybird peeked out from the pile, crawling onto his fingers. He raised his smallest finger to his nose and smiled crookedly at the small spotted insect, inspecting it carefully before blowing on it to take flight.

He was almost sad to see it go.

Just down the block Liam and Rei had rounded the corner. It was like an interesting game of don't step on the crack but involving the weeds and bugs Rei seemed able to notice when others did not. He was very conscious of life even the smallest of creatures. He was distracted when a small lady bug flew in front of him and then landed on his shirt after colliding with his face.

Blinking he paused on his walk and peered at the small creature before smiling and letting it crawl around on his shirt to eventually end up on his small fingers. He lifted it to show Liam before he smiled and they continued on their way.

Liam noticed the other boy first, his sensors picked up on it instantly he looked and noticed the small child and then looked to Rei who ..despite able to notice the smallest of creatures had yet to pick up on the boy.

"Rei..." he murmured the black haired boy paused in his hop and balancing on on leg looked to Liam in wonder. The cyborg pointed ahead of them, and Rei finally had his brown eyes settle on the boy. Putting his one foot down he ...looked nervous. The last time he met with someone they had ...beheaded a flower. True now he knew that it wasn't dead...it was still dreadful.

"Why not go say hello?" The cyborg encouraged as he would like to see the boy get use to people. Rei looked to his hands, watching the lady bug crawl around contently.

Rei moved...slowly carefully towards the boy, his body trembled as he noticed the pile of weeds and grass sitting in front of the small toys.

"Why you kill??" He blurted out instead of saying hello.

Damon looked up at the clearly distressed boy, taken aback by his outburst. He opened his mouth to respond but was distracted by a red blur that whizzed passed behind him. He reached over and plucked another blade of grass, placing it on the pile soberly before returning his attention to the still very distressed toddler.

"Kill?" he echoed in confusion, his eyes narrowing into a squint. "I haven't killed anything."

He thought it an odd question to ask someone you don't know but quickly decided not to judge the boy solely on the fact that he introduced himself by asking him why he kills. He wasn't averse to company, even kind of wanted company, so he wasn't about to push away the only person currently talking to him. Looking around the boy once more, Damon plucked out two blades of grass and placed them on the pile.

His eyes watched as the kid continued to pluck each blade of grass and pile them on top of the rest of the weed graveyard. He pointed a small finger at the pile looking distraught.
"Kill! You kill plant! Why? Plant do nothing to you." He stated though he didn't sound angry just...upset. Tears were even brimming in his eyes as he used a sleeve to wipe the dampness away.

Liam took this as a good time to intervene.
"I'm sorry, but...could you not pluck the grass? It bothers Rei." He explained as he put a hand on Rei's shoulder and the toddler began to cry furiously.

Damon opened and closed his mouth, blinked, then opened and closed it once more. To say he was baffled was an understatement; he was at an absolute loss for words. He looked down at his grass pile and back at the pair standing in front of him, his mouth pulling into a sour frown.

"But it's a game," he bit defensively. "Every time a car drives by, I pick a piece of grass. It grows back, it doesn't die."

He plucked another piece as a small yellow car whizzed by, raising it to Rei pointedly before placing it on the pile. It seemed foolish to think that a blade of grass could actually die; grass was always alive. Yes, sometimes it was green and sometimes it was brown, but it was always alive. Grumbling to himself, Damon grabbed the slightly fading stuffed robot from its place amongst his other pre-loved toys and squeezed it to his chest, squinting down at it irritably.

"Stop crying."

Liam watched as the boy continued to pluck the graze true he knew that the grass wasn't dead. It wasn't like he was uprooting it, so in a sense he wasn't killing it.

"Rei Rei, Shhh...see he is right, he isn't killing the grass...its more like he is giving it a hair cut..." He explained as best he could.

"If you cut your hair it still grows right? It's the same with grass and many other plants.." He explained hoping to calm the boy down.

Rei seemed to finally choke back his tears and he rubbed his eyes trying to clear them of the dribbling salty water that was dripping down his cheeks.

"Really?" he inquired to Liam who only nodded his head. He looked to the other boy hanging his head reaching for his tail to hold it like a security blanket. "Soowy..." he mumbeled to Damon.

Liam was glad that ...part was over but now things seemed awkward. "That is a neat robot toy you have," He started, "Did you know I am a robot too?" he inquired though his silver metally skin probably would of given it away.

Damon blinked up at Liam sulkily, drawing the robot closer to his chest.

"Are you?" he asked, looking down at his toy. "I thought it was a costume, maybe. But that's cool. I haven't met any real robots before."

Damon picked at two blades of grass, still frowning and still glaringly irritated by the situation at hand, though maybe a tad unjustifiably. After all, Rei had apologised for overreacting to his game which should have been enough to smooth over the hiccup during their first meeting. It should have been, but Damon seemed content in being a jerk and instead of moving on he refused to even look at the young boy, instead concentrating on hugging his toy and watching for cars.

Liam could tell despite his inexperience with human emotion, it still confused him at times; that Damon was still...upset. Rei had managed to make him upset enough a simple apology wasn't going to cut it. And to be fair it was rather rude of Rei to go off telling the boy he was a killer. Rei wasn't like other kids his age, he didn't feel the need to play and run, simply content with existing it seemed. It was like some part of him was missing...

"Yes I am, I have evolved though so I have emotions..." he explained as he gently pushed Rei forward as if to indicate that he should join in the conversation. THe small boy seemed a bit unsure of how to continue...and was rather inept when it came to making friends.

Rei fidgeted on the spot watching as Damon looked as if he was going to pluck more grass before he went to sit down as gracefully as he could manage, his tial coming around to sit in his lap.
"Is true? Why when cut plant not die?" he inquired to the boy as if expecting him to know the answers.

Damon opened his mouth to respond to robot-man when suddenly Rei was sitting in front of him, far too close and skewing his view. Pulling a face, Damon edged backwards into the fence and crossed his legs, nudging his pile of toys and grass along with him. He gave an annoyed kind of a grunt and dropped his robot into his folded legs, slightly uncomfortable with Rei's sudden proximity.

"Yeah," was his slightly miffed response, arms folded over his chest. "And I don't know. They just don't. Why don't you ask them why they don't die?"

He was being condescending. He was being a jerk. He wasn't being nice and he knew he wasn't. Slowly, almost hesitantly, Damon's expression softened and his arms unfolded; he didn't apologise, but he let his guard down, just a little.

Rei looked to the plants, and though he normally spoke with them he never claimed he could hear what they were saying. Normally he just got a sense from them. So he focused his eyes on the grass where Damon had been plucking and looked as if he was really concentrating. After a moment or two he relaxed and felt a bit foolish and then wondered how he could make it up to Damon.

"I sowweh...." He apologized again, "Grass not dead, you help by trimming ...." He trailed off as he tried to find some common ground but he had a feeling he had ruined their first meeting.

Liam watched seeing now that Rei was trying to make up for it, he was glad though he would have to explain plants and how they worked and why merly plucking didn't kill.
