Damon was babbling; Jack wasn't sure what he was babbling about but boy, was he was babbling. He also happened to be running. He was babbling and running and Jack was sure that if he ran far enough into the distance he'd turn around and leave the boy to fend for himself. It was probably lucky Damon was only running to keep up with Jack's strides.
"Damon, I'm trying to think."
Damon stopped abruptly mid-speech. He wasn't surprised or shocked or even taken aback by what, in his mind, he believed to be his father's rejection, just kind of sad. After a few minutes of doleful silence the pair stopped in front of an off-beat bottle shop that Damon thought smelled distinctly like Jack; strong and bitter, a smell that made his nose wrinkle and his mouth dry. Jack placed a hand on Damon's shoulder and pushed him back from the door.
"I'll be out in a second. Just-- wait out here until I'm done, I won't be long."
Damon opened his mouth to protest but stopped himself, instead sliding down the shop wall and drawing his knees to his chin. The boy pulled a small rubber ball from his pocket and bounced it against the cement, his eyes watering, just a little.

"Thank you, Mommy!" Lucille chirped up at the woman covered from head to toe in thick, heavy fabrics to keep every inch of her out of the sun. At least the veil over her face was thick enough for sun to stay out but for her to see quite well. Lucille was walking along with her mother pushing a tiny, classic purple baby carriage decorated with lace and frills, her teddy bear was bundled up like a newborn baby inside. Claudine smiled, petting Lucille's head with a gloved hand.
"You're welcome, Lucille." She was glad to see her daughter liked the new carriage even if she personally thought it was silly to have one for a teddy bear. Oh well, she supposed since Gary was important to the girl that she should keep her happy by...keeping him happy...weird. They were on their way home now so Claudine could take off the extra stuff she had on to cover her body from the sunlight, and Lucille could show her sister and Arianna the pretty new carriage Claudine bought for her! They both noticed the little boy sitting miserable against the wall, and unfortunately Claudine continued to walk along. It wasn't any of their business what he was doing there, and even worse the fact that he was a boy...so he didn't get even a glance from her.
Lucille, however, was an entirely different story. She blinked and stopped the moment she saw the boy, tilting her head curiously as she looked up at her mommy who didn't seem to notice she had stopped just yet. Why was this boy sitting all alone playing with a ball? Was...was he crying? Oh no! "Why are you all alone?" She suddenly asked, frowning. Claudine blinked and stopped walking, glancing over her shoulder to see her daughter had decided to talk to the boy. Great...
