"Ring around the rosy, a pocket full of posies. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down" All the children sang and dropped to the floor laughing, getting back up for another round. In the corner of my eye, a human figure moved across the bushes. My natural instincts making me look in it's direction.
"What's wrong Ski?" One of the others said to me "You look like you saw a ghost."
"Oh it's nothing," I replied "I'll be back in a bit"
My curiosity always got the best of me, I walked up toward where the person -or whatever it was- was hiding. I slowly strode along toward the bush, a soft touch pulled me in.
A giggle.
"You're mine now" A soft, feminine voice said.
"O-okay, don't hurt me" I yelled out.
"You're funny" She giggled.
I opened my eyes, pushing myself to be brave. What I saw was something I've never seen in my life. The girl before me was like someone from a dream. Her skin was pale as snow, her hair platinum.
But her eyes.
Why can't I remember her eyes?
"Are you okay?" One of the girls asked, as she found her way to the bush.
"I'm fine, I just fo-" I drifted off mid-sentence, looking to the side of me. The girl was gone.
Was I insane? Mad?
I walked out of the bush, watching my friends be the children they are. I looked at the bush, then to the mansion a couple of yards from it. A white figure moved across one of the windows. One of the curtains blowing in the wind maybe?
I never saw that girl again.
But her image still haunts me.
The pale skin.
Platinum hair.
But her eyes, why don't I remember her eyes?
Then again, it was ten years ago.
"Sk-Sk-Skee Evans?" The teacher's voice yelled out.
I put my face in my palms and raised my hand, unwilling to correct him.
"It's Ski, Mr.Lock" One of the girls yelled out, fixing my problem.
My name is Ski Evans. Pronounced Sky, Skai, however you want to put it, just like that big blue mass above our heads. As you can tell, most people think it's pronounced, well ski, like those ski things you use on a snowy mountain. Though, I personally dislike my name. Why?
"Malia Sky?" Mr.Lock called out.
"Here" She called out.
I look in her direction. Malia Sky is what you would call opposite of 'feminine', she sat there completely covered up with loose pants and a hoodie that looked two sizes too large for her. Malia's eyes are always covered by these really dark shades that you can see your own reflection in. I could tell she was looking at me as she puckered her lips and make two kissing sounds. She'd always tell me "Your name is just like my last name, cool. Maybe it means something huh?"
"Malia, oh Malia" One of the guys yelled out, trying to sound like he was having an orgasm, as he hugged his own body and made kissing faces to the air.
A paper hit my head, and I turned around. A friend of mine held up a picture with me and Malia's faces cut and pasted next to eachother's, with a heart drawn around it. I absolutely hate the fact that our names are so identical. Plus, I had a girlfriend of my own. She was sitting right next to Malia in fact, which obviously bothered her. Though, for a class of mostly seventeen-year-olds, I felt like I was in a middle school class.
"Okay students, tomorrow I want you all to bring something that represents you, and something that represents your family. We're doing introductions tomorrow!" Mr.Lock said happily, giving us a thumbs up and a giddy smile.
The class groaned, I could tell this would be an interesting year. The bell rang, and the students walked out of the classroom. I sat there putting my books into my bag, as a loud thud came from my desk.
"Why don't you do something about your Malia problem?" Alexia said.
"Oh, hi Alex" I replied, not wanting to mention my absolute absence of a gut.
Alexia is my girlfriend, I call her Alex. She never liked Malia, or anyone that mentioned Malia around her. I never bother to ask about why she hated her so much, because apparently their history goes further than just a competition over my heart. And obviously Alex has mine.
"Well, if you're not going to answer me," She said "I'm going home and getting to some chores. I'm kinda busy today so I won't be able to visit you. Sorry, hun"
"It's fine, I can do other things in life too you know?" I replied, she kissed me on the cheek and ran off.
"Oh hey, Ski" Mr.Lock said.
Great, now the teacher is keeping me back.
"Sorry about earlier, man" He said "and I noticed there's some competition among the ladies here"
"It's really nothing."
"Really, I'd go for the Malia chick if I were you"
"Why's that?"
"I don't know, seems like it'd work out better"
"Are you trying to make me dump my girlfriend?"
"No, no. It's not that. Actually, forget about this conversation"
"Got it"
I walked out of the classroom, Malia was standing right outside the whole time.
"You know, maybe the teacher's right" Malia smiled and ran off as a car honked it's horn.
I watched her run off to the car with overly tinted windows. I have to admit though, there's some things that I can like about the strange girl.
Like her a**.
I broke out of my trance and started walking home.
"I can sleep once i get home, and figure out what I'll bring tonight." I talked aloud to myself.
