I got the thinking the other day about the insane amount of effort Meyer put into Bella, Alice, and Rosalie's prom dresses. According to her website, the original version of Twilight took up about a page or two of description of Bella's dress and there was a hint that she had stolen the ideas for them from a Paris fashion shoot. One of her loyal fans managed to dig them up (sadly) but when I saw them and read over the descriptions I got a good feeling of just how much Meyer has stereotyped her characters. Firstly Bella's dress (I found another pic a fan had edited to have a cast and photo shopped blue) Next Alice: And Rosalie's dress, which seems to have no inspiration is described at being "Scarlet backless dress, tight to calves, wide ruffle train, and neckline plunged to waist". Now does anyone else believe there is EXTREME stereotypes in these three dress types? I personally think that Meyers description of Rosalie's dress makes it sound like a raunchy 'slutty' looking garment that would not fly well in a highschool. Alice's sounds/looks edgy and avant-garde but still sexualized, where as Bella's, with it's wispy light fabric and pale coloration, seems to scream 'look at how innocent/virginal I am'. I feel as though she knows very little about her characters in terms of binding their past to their current behavior. She claims Rosalie had a harsh past and was raped. Given this traumatizing experience I highly doubt she would wear anything that would place her as a sex object. Which leads me to believe Meyer knows very little about the physiological damage of rape. Anyone care to discuss this with me?

I think those dresses scream "I am soooooo different because I don't wear typical high school prom dresses. Instead, I try to look unique which makes me the most awesome character on earth, even though I come off as a wanna be to everybody else".

What astounds me is that Meyer emphasizes that Bella is 'average'. If she is, and her father really is just average himself in wages; how would she be able to afford such a unique and complex prom dress?

That is just another example of Meyer's unintentional use of oxymorons. Bella is unique, yet average at the same time.

those dresses are slutty and ugly. Bleh. People need to learn how to dress themselves, and Meyer is an idiot to go into such detail about the dresses.

Knowing from experience, I DON'T GO to proms. IF I DO, I wear a male outfit, though I'm a chick.

I think her descriptions of the dresses shows not only is Meyer an idiot, but also she has no taste in fashion at all whatsoever. Those are the ugliest things I have ever seen in my entire life.
And yes, obviously Rosalie is going to be a bit more covered? But then again, she's not going to be acting all slutty around everyone as she does in the stories now is she? No. Well, you know, rape victims commonly develop a phobia to sex, but it seems Rosalie loves getting it on with Emmett, considering the fact that they "went through" a couple of houses. No, Meyer has no idea the psychological damage rape can have on a person.

The second dress looks alright, but the other two... ugh.
And yeah, Meyer has no logic, so of course a rape victim is going to act like a slut rolleyes

Couldn't agree more. Seriously, Rosalie's dress sounds like this whorish dress. I'd say it probably looks sort of like that. Fill in the two triangles cut out on the sides and plunge the neckline down to her waist....Actually that dress is probably less whorish. O_O

Who would go to prom in a cast? They would be a laughing stock...
And ew... that dress. Wasn't there a girl last year from somewhere that was declined from entering their prom because she dressed slutty?

I thought most schools kinda explained the dress code before the prom to prevent hoochie dresses
