A rather tired halfling pushed the cart down the aisle, stopping infront of the baby food. The worst part of an unexpected pregnancy and even more unexpected birth was the shopping afterwords. Luckily, she had some stuff from previous children, like a crib, playpen, toys, ect. And even a few clothes. But now, she had to stock up on baby food and diapers. Ugh. There went her paycheck for the week.
The source of her misfortune sat in a baby seat in the cart, unaware of her mother's annoyance. They tiny pale one was asleep, blissfully unaware of her surroundings as she snuggleed under her blanket. Her arms wound around her odd-looking doll; a gift from her self-proclaimed godmother, Tuomi. Her car seat jerked a bit as the cart stopped, rousing the infant from her slumber.

Ivy walked around the store with her daughter Eve in her arms, the little girl was covered up to keep her warm. Ivy loved how her daughter looked, but others seemed to be scared of the infant. Ivy didn't know why, her daughter was a happy little baby, whom she saw often after a job in another country.

The half-elf muttered to herself unintelligibly, comparing the prices of two brands of baby food. Honestly, did they expect her to pay THAT much for tasteless slop? Ugh. Damn economy.....she remembered what the prices used to be.
Aesica sat up in her seat, rubbing her eyes sleepily as the blanket fell away from her head. Tired baby was tired.....and hungry. Her eyes fell on some lady carrying what looked like a patched-up rag doll. She whimpered a little, making grabby-hands at this new person. Hopefully, the lady would get the hint.

Ivy saw the child reaching for something and walked over, but Eve narrowed her young eyes at the child. Eve wasn't around kids her own age, but the mother seemed to be buying food. Ivy decided to give in to the little girl and smiled, "Hi, your daughter seems to like mine".

Stasia blinked, looking over. "That's odd. She's usually only interested in adults. Huh." she said, her tone rather blunt and not-too-friendly. She was MUCH too tired to pay attention to social niceties. She did manage a faint smile out of courtesy; hopefully it'd make up for her tone.
Ae could have rolled her eyes. Adults were SO stupid sometimes.....ah well. Her eyes fell on the child she was supposedly interested in.....hm. She looked....interesting, to say the least. Dark, almost black, blue eyes regarded the girl, silently sizing her up. Then, the infant raised a small pale hand, waving a little before letting it drop. There, she'd greeted the other child. Nums now?

Eve stared at the other child with her head tilted to the side. "Well, Eve's usually doesn't pay much attention to children her own age", Ivy could tell the mother was tired and knew how much the baby food was. "Unexpected child?" Ivy asked and felt Eve pull on her hair a little as a way to get her mother's attention.
The little girl was reaching for the child and Ivy didn't deny her daughter the chance to meet a kid her own age. "This is Eve", Eve whimpered and Ivy got a teething ring out of her bag in case the child's gums were hurting.

"Very much unexpected." Stasia murmured, offering a weary smile as she tossed a couple a jars into the cart, giving up. Who cared how much the stupid things cost....ugh. It was a wonder the jars didn't shatter, with how much force was behind the toss.
"This is my daughter, Aesica." the halfling said, motioning to the raven-haired baby. Aesica pulled back a bit, frowning. What was the dolly doing? No touchy-touch! She didn't utter a sound, but an uncomfortable look spread across her pale face.

Ivy understood how unexpected a child was. She was still wondering how Eve could have been formed out of magic. "Please forgive my manners, I'm Ivy", Ivy noticed Eve had stopped reaching for the other child and now reached for the teething ring like her life depended on it.
Eve wanted her gums to stop hurting, but the ring wasn't within reach. She wondered if her mother was going to have the whole day with her or go on one of her jobs again.
Ivy handed the ring to her daughter and smiled as the whimpering stopped. She looked at the price for baby food and narrowed her eyes, "They're getting reckless over the price of food for an infant".

Stasia smiled. Manners. Feh; it wasn't like she had any room to talk. "Nice t' meetcha, Ivy. I'm called Stasia." the half-elf said, waving once. "The little one's teething, I see." she observed. Oh, she dreaded the day when her little girl started teething....didn't babies scream and get fussy when they were teething? She nodded. "Yeah, and the prices of everything else." she said, rolling her eyes.
Aesica looked relieved when the child's attention switched from her to the teething ring. She wasn't sure what that piece of rubber was for....it seemed to be some kind of chew-toy. Was the dolly-girl part puppy? That'd explain the fur...

"Pleasant to meet you, Stasia. You seem exhausted", Ivy said as an observation. Eve looked up at the half-elf, curious about her.
Eve thought the mother seemed nicer than the infant did and nodded, smiling as she chewed on the ring. The pain in her gum seemed to ease with the cold of it. Mother was a good mommy even though she wasn't around a lot of the time.
Ivy nodded, "Yeah, the poor dear's teeth is coming in and the teething rings seem to help with the pain. I am thinking of rubbing rum on her gums though, I heard that it works for some infants". Eve wasn't that fussy about teething, though it did hurt a lot.
"I could help you out with the food. It seems you need to give an arm and a leg to get a decent priced jar of baby food", Ivy carried a basket and grabbed some of the jars for Eve.

Stasia shrugged. "Eh, I've been better. Nothing I can't handle, though." she said, offering a small smile. She was fine, just fine. She looked to the little patchwork baby, offering a small smile. "I wouldn't suggest the rum. Try ice instead; it's less alchoholic and a bit healthier." she offered as advice, looking back up to Ivy. She then waved her hand dismissively, her smile fading a bit. "You don't have to. I can handle it on my own, thanks." She said, frowning. She was NOT a charity case! She could acquire food for her baby all on her own, thank YOU very much!
Aesica shifted in her seat, tiny hands fumbling with the latch. She wanted out of this infernal contraption. She was QUITE tired of listening to adults babble over nothing, thank you very much! She huffed, showing a sliver of her frustration as she struggled against her restraints.

Eve waved at Stasia, cooing around the ring as it helped her teeth. It didn't hurt so much, but Mommy seemed to act like the pain wasn't something to be worried about it.
"Thank you for the suggestion, ice should work", Eve noticed Aesica trying to get out and watched the other child. Eve herself didn't like to be in a car seat and was content for her mother to hold her.
"All right, I'm sorry if I offended you", Ivy said as she was new to being around other mothers.

Aesica frown in indignation; being strapped to the seat like a common infant was NOT fun. She made a small, negative-sounding sound in her throat, showing her displeasure in her current situation. Curse whoever the damned soul was who invented this prison on wheels!
Stasia nodded. "It is....It's fine. Don't worry about it." she said, waving her hand dismissively. That wasn't what she wanted to say, but she didn't feel like causing a scene right now. Perhaps another time and another place, but not now.

Eve figured the cart wasn't very comfortable and was glad that Mommy had chosen to not use a cart instead of the basket she carried. The teething ring slipped from the infant's hand, but Ivy's reflexes activited and caught the toy before it could hit the ground. Eve cooed and started to bite the ring once it was within her reach again.
Ivy didn't say anything though she knew she had gotten Stasia upset. "So how old is Aesica?" Eve was only a week old, but she was a quiet baby, much to Ivy's relief for the lack of yelling and screaming unless the kid was in pain.
