My Cat Sammy is well-known in my family for leaving gifts for us when we wake in the morning. Guess what the gifts usually are?? ...

Dead (or sometimes even alive) wild rabbits and rats/mice.

Does anyone here know why he does this? People tell me its just his way of showing he loves me, but I dont know really, Is it some Cat thing that we humans will never understand? lol

*Once He brought me a rabbit (still alive) and he was carrying it in his mouth, then he threw the poor thing in my kitchen sink, and walked away!*

*and Once he brought me 2 live rabbits in one night, and left them running around scared..* lol

Oh noes!!! I better pretend I dont know what he's planning to do then, or he'll catch on, and know that I know what he knows what I know he's planning to do, get it? lol xD

... Yeah my Cat used to bring insects when he was little, then a bird, then the mouses, and now the rabbits. smile He must love me sooo much! xd

sound slike he does. my cats are all indoor cats so the biggest prey item they ever see are my pet rats, the biggest thing they can catch is a mouse from the garage. most of the time its just big ugly roaches

Lol, Yep and only last night he brought me a mouse, it was just a baby mouse, and was still alive, but then he decided to kill it.. poor mouse. The mouse's mother must be so worried, just imagine (Oh noes, a big cat just put my son/daughter in his mouth and walked away, the mouse's must be so scared..)

well the thing probably didnt have long anyways since your cat got ahold of it. once a cat bites a small animal chances are they wont make it because of the bacteria in their mouths.

im sure the mother must have been very sad afterwards, mice are great mothers.

Yep thats true, and the mouse looked so scared too, it was running around so fast, and my cat looked like he was enjoying it, he had fun teasing the poor thing till he got fed up and murdered it. Poor mousy sad

They are good mothers, and I bet my Cat only gets the babies because if he had to hunt a big mother mouse, he would have more of a challenge, but the babies are helpless. talk2hand I feel so sorry for them.

yeahbut thats how life is. im going to end up breeding natal rats soon for my snakes and ill be having to kill some of the babies when i feed them to my smaller snakes. i plan on getting the fiance to do all the dirtly work though. but we are going to biuld a co2 chamber so they can slowly fall asleep while eating treats then we crank it up so they dont feel a thing.

I have 2 cats.Ones an english smoke(black but she has a white spot on her neck) and the other is a tabby with brown-green m,ain part of the markings and black spots with a white diamond on the biggest spot that runs down her back. She has a little masrking on her left shoulder. They kill mosquitoes for us and flies. But they eat them for us so they dont give us presents like that.*points to some throw up.*

My cat isdn't so poilte to give me gifts.
Instead he is evil. He likes to announce he's caught some tasty morsal then when I try to get it he runs outside again.
Doubly evil too due to the fact he likes the heads best. Amount of times I've found a decapitated mouse inside or outside in the garden.

It doesn't help that if he lets a mouse loose in the house, the mice are thick. I try to grab them so I can let them go, but they trun and sometimes when trying to catch them they run straight into my barrier and get squished.

The local bird population doesn't get away either. Sadly they are usually dead when I see my cat with them.

I understand about your kitty decapitating the poor mouses ect. My cat Sammy does this to rabbits quite alot, he grabs little baby rabbits with his mouth and runs home with them, and its usually at night time so I cant save them alot of the time.

He brings them back home and puts them either on the first step of my stairs of leaves them on my doormat, and sometimes they are headless. Its a pretty gruesome scene, but my mum cleans it all up. I would probably
feel sick if I had to clean them up..

But yeah, a common part of an animal that cats go for is the head, and with rabbits.. the insides are usually spilled over the floor too, so its pretty much all tasty to them. eek

It is a sign that Sammy loves you very much. He is trying to take care of you by bringing you food. It is obvious to him that you are not a great hunter, as all you bring home is kibble.

Just another sign that cats think they own us, and not the other way around.

Lol, Aww Thats my Sammy wink My Cats definatly think they own me and my family, They always walk around with their tails up in the air and brush themselves on the wallks (and on my legs lol) and my Kitty Sammy always sleeps with his legs in the air and his paws stretched out! He's so cute.
