Rory really did make delicious sandwiches. He even remembered to get her something chocolatey for afterward -- he really did know her too well. But Lee's lunch break was over now, and she headed back into the little ticket booth she worked in, plopping down in her heightened seat and setting her candy bar down beside her before giving the girl she worked with a nod.
Weird girl, Lee had assumed. She didn't speak much, and always seemed a little on the grumpy side. They didn't really do much talking, either, Lee figuring that was because neither of them really seemed to be much of a talker. She had noticed, however, that the girl -- Aisling, was her name? -- never went on her breaks. How odd, to want to stay holed up in this ticket booth if you didn't have to. She'd never asked about it before, but... she was so curious. Twisting around in her chair, she thought to maybe make conversation, and eventually ask her. Breaking off a piece of her candy bar, Lee held it out to the girl. "Like chocolate?" Who didn't?

Aisling stared boredly at nothing, her gaze hidden by the too-long bangs that draped over her forehead and into her eyes. She started a bit when the other girl - oh, right, Lee was her name, wasn't it? - offered her some candy. She shrugged a little, managing a somewhat-forced smile as she mumbled a faint, "Nae thank y'," and resumed her blank staring. She wanted to reach down and rub at her aching legs, but the stubborn part of her resisted, knowing that it wouldn't do any good anyway. The stupid things had needed to be pinned together in a few places each after that horrible. . . ugh. Her hands clenched into fists ogf their own accord as her shoulders shook; she ducked her head and turned away from the pretty, whole brunette who she worked with.
Why couldn't Keagan have hired someone ugly to work this booth with her? Or at least one that didn't go around showing off her pretty, working, pain-free legs all the time, every day.

What? Wait, had she seriously said no to chocolate? "Are you not... are you sick or something?" Surely that had to be it. It made no sense at all to her. She looked down, thinking perhaps the girl assumed she was giving her a piece already bitten from. "My spit didn't touch it or anything, it's still good." She frowned, sinking in her chair a bit. It wasn't every day she went around handing out her chocolate. Honestly, the girl should be more thankful. It's rude not to accept gifts, right?

Aisling blinked; what did spit have to do with anythi - ohhhh........ um, alright. Why was she being offered chocolate? This seemed rather odd; none of the other people she'd worked the ticketbooth with had ever tried to actually talk to her, let alone really offer her candy. Then again, most of tem knew her, and about her accident, and couldnt' stand the 180 her personality had taken from who she had been before. "N-nae, 's no' tha'. . . " She said, feeling somehow like she needed to defend herself against this girl, prove she wasn't doing this just to be cruel or rude or - or whatever this outsider-born brunette was thinking. "Jus' no' hungry, nae need tae waste tha' treat on me when I'm not e'en hungry."

Something was terribly wrong here, and Lee wanted to push it further but found that there were people waiting on her. Sighing, she set the candy down beside the girl, nudging it closer to Aisling before turning around and actually doing her job. Maybe she was on a diet? There was really no other explanation...

Aisling turned back to her work, just barely noticing the chocolate still sitting there beside her. She had work to do - work that she hated and wished she didn't have to do - but still, work. As she patiently worked with the people buying their tickets, she occasionally glanced out of the corner of her eye at the piece of candy, wondering what, exactly, Lee was trying to do. Wouldn't her boyfriend have told her what had happened? She still heard the whispers, even now, surely this girl kept her ears open to the rumors?

Lee was never one to turn down juicy gossip, but she'd never heard a thing about Aisling. Then again, she didn't have too many friends to gossip with at the moment. She, too, kept sneaking peeks at the candy beside her, wondering why in the world this girl wasn't touching it. Fine. If she didn't want it, then Lee'd eat it. As the last person in line got their tickets and headed off, Lee sat back, somewhat insulted that he gift hadn't been accepted. Snatching the chocolate back up, she munched on it, just barely grumbling with annoyance. So much for easing into conversation. "Why don't you go on break? Do you really like your job that much?" Who could like this job? It wasn't horrible, not at all, but it certainly wasn't something that anyone could get excited about.

Aisling blinked, then glared, assuming the innocent question was actually a jab at her condition. "Nae, I hate this job, bu' s' no' like I kin jus' up an' gae back t' m' old one," she said bitterly, her hands clenching fistfuls of her skirt. "Or walk off an' leave it, either." Her last statement was muttered very quietly and under her breath, hopefully where Lee wouldn't overhear it. Dangling treats at her and then poking fun at her lameness - were all outsider-born like this?!?

Lee blinked, not sure where all this hate was coming from. "Am I missing something here?" she asked, tilting her head as she looked the other girl over. She was the one who should be annoyed, not Aisling. This girl must just be temperamental to be upset over being offered chocolate and being asked simple questions.

Aisling's jaw dropped, and she stared at the blue-eyed brunette beside her. "Y'. . . .. . y' really donnae know?!?" She asked, then half laughed, bitterly. "Guess I shoul' thank y' - here I though' y' were jus' mouthin' off li' ever'one else, an' y' really donnae know?!?" She reached over next to the chair she sat un and grabbed a crude walking stick, thumping it on the floor. "Y' didnae e'er see this?"

Lee scratched her cheek, giving the girl a nervous smile. "I saw it, but... What is it? Why would I notice a stick?" She didn't doubt Aisling just carried it around to beat people with. What exactly did everyone know that she didn't?

Aisling almost fell out of her seat laughing. "Y're th' mos' impossible girl I've e'er seen!" she said amidst the first real giggles she'd had in a very long time. After she'd calmed down, she took the stick and went through the awkward process of getting to her feet - shifting from a sitting position to a standing one while maintaining her balance and keeping her weight mostly supported by the walking stick. It was awkward, and painful, which was why she didn't bother trying it more often than necessary. "Can y' tell me wha' this is now?"

Lee pouted a bit as she was laughed at, though couldn't mind as much when she'd never actually seen this girl laugh before. Wait, didn't that just make Lee look worse? "Ohh... Like a cane, only ugly." That answered that question. "So you gotta use that thing to get around, eh? Are you embarrassed or something? Is that why you don't leave much?"

"Nae, it hurts," Aisling said truthfully - and rather harshly. "I donnae use this fae th' fun o' it," she added, peering through her bangs at the other girl. I wasnae always this way, an' it's no' fair tha' I have t'!"
