There were some things that died out in the land. Certain plants and grasses would disappear by the seasons and bugs and animals would vanish in either survival or peace. But there was one thing that stayed strong between two very unlikely creatures. There was a love that never seemed to hinder or dissipate; in fact, it would grow and cherish as days would become longer or shorter. It was a love most could only dream about. Loveless and Antony never dreamed of it affecting them in any way.
Yes, Loveless and Antony were becoming an old 'married' couple. They were almost too comfortable in their ways and with their children. Some would call their relationship perfect, although the two of them would comment quite oppositely. They just made the days work in their own mysterious ways, and they had survived quite well considering their heritage and circumstances.
Loveless had woken up before Antony this morning and she decided to quietly creep away to a nearby stream to reflect on the new season ahead of them. How long had it been since they had started their adventure? How was it that two very unlikely creatures would end up as they could? It really was as close to a fantasy as one could imagine. Even Loveless could admit that in sheer girly embarrassment. She loved Antony. Not a day went by where she didn't admit that.
As she took a drink from the stream, she looked at her reflection and noticed her eyes as bright as ever. She and Antony still looked like a young couple compared to others, but Loveless was starting to feel aging in her legs and wings lately. It wasn't necessarily a BAD aging, just a new sort of experience. It made her feel wiser and fresher and even more alive.
If her father was able to survive aging, then hell, they'd be able to as well! It was in their genes to look good doing it, of course. But still... would things remain the same even if they grew older? She wondered and knew it just had to be. Things could hopefully only get better...

Loveless might have been thinking of serious and somber thoughts, but Antony's mind was currently occupied with much simpler thoughts: sleep. The last several nights had seen Antony wrestling with insomnia, unable to fall asleep until the early hours of the morning. Sure, he had curled up with Loveless at the same time every night, but long after she had fallen asleep he had been getting up and pacing around their home clearing, walking along the riverbank, or practicing his sparring form. Usually that had been enough to wear him out, allowing him to get at least a few hours of sleep before morning.
So far, he'd managed to make a decent showing of it, getting just enough sleep to avoid looking haggard and to be able to function properly during the day. But darned if he didn't want to get a full night's sleep one of these days!
This morning was unusual in that he wasn't already awake. Usually he and Loveless were up and moving at about the same time; that had been the way of things, ever since they'd had kids and he had learned that sleeping in was impossible. But today, the early morning sun that saw Loveless reflecting on aging, love, and maturity saw Antony curled up asleep with his nose under his wing, his sides rising and falling to the rhythm of his breathing.

It seemed like the warmer days were going to be ending soon. Fall was close to moving in and chilling everything off before everyone realized it. Though on this particular morning, there was still a hint of summer left to bring some heat into her fur. It was very pleasant and she imagined it was probably the last nice day they'd have for many months. As she continued to stare at the water in a tired manner, she decided to do something sort of childish. Without hesitation she moved herself into the water as quietly as she could and felt the refreshing cool wake her up and cause her to smile. Ah.
She swam along slowly but comfortably, finding little spots where her hoofs would touch and clunk. It was a shallow stream but it was rather large in size. She had swam in the creek before on the hottest days of summer so she decided to indulge herself a bit just for the hell of it. There was something completely relaxing about dozing off in a cool bank of water. Although she had entered the water with too many thoughts to handle, now she was feeling somewhat relieved and distracted... until her children's faces came into mental view.
She wondered if everyone was prepared for the winter's coming. The children were older now so they could most certainly handle it. But like a mother hen Loveless worried. Before she could drive herself too crazy she dug her nose into the water and chuckled at the bubbles that formed. Her children would definitely be fine. They really were something to admire and be proud of, each with their own little attributes and skills. She and Antony had seriously made some awesome kidlets. Not a day went by where she didn't think about them and miss them. But that was good, too. It was their turns to embark on their lives just like she and Antony had done so long ago.

Shifting slightly in his sleep, Antony wriggled and stretched, one wing spreading slightly and reaching out as though to cuddle with a handy mare. For a moment, the wing quivered, then gently batted at the air, seeking out what apparently wasn't there. A slight frown crossed Antony's face, then he was drowsily raising his head and looking around with a blinking, bleary-eyed look. After a few moments, he was awake enough to sit up and look around, frowning as he tried to figure out what was wrong with this picture.
"Lessy?" It only took a few minutes to determine that the missing thing was his mate, and being the sort of stallion that he was (used to being awake first), he was at first perplexed as to where she had gone. However, after a few more moments the sound of the dancing river caught his ear and he had to smile at his own foolishness. Of course she was in that direction, either getting a drink or simply enjoying the serenity of it all. Where else would she be this early in the day, at least without waking him?
Having come to that conclusion, Antony was swift to verify. Stretching out his large, leathery wings, he rose quickly (if stiffly) to his feet and yawned. Shaking his head, he knocked any lingering tangles out of his mane, then trotted off towards the water, calling out cheerfully as he went, "Lessy? Leeeeeeeeeeeeesssy!"

She chuckled when she heard a faint name call from not far away. So the king had finally awoken from his slumber? She hoped she didn't wake him... but if she did OH WELL haha. Either way she could only laugh as she swam to a more shallow part of the stream, making little waves as she moved. He'd definitely find her if she made enough noise in the water. It was pretty hard to miss a Kalona swimming anyways!
"Over here, dear!" she then yelled when she heard him hopelessly calling her name. How romantic they were, all sleepy and looking for each other in the morning. Neither of them could ever admit to being normal- but they would certainly admit to being better than everyone else. "Good morrrrning!" she then added, while whipping her braid around in an attempt to dry off a little bit. He'd probably be surprised in seeing her in the water. Last time she swam they were with the kid-lets on a hot summer day.
Wow. That really WAS a long time ago. There were other times when everyone else in the family would enjoy a nice swim or two, but Loveless always found herself rejecting the idea. There was something about being dry and keeping watch that plagued her mind. She wasn't sure what made her change her mind on this morning, but it felt fresh and new, and sort of adventurous. Even if it was just a silly pond afterall! "Are you lost silly?"

Loveless was definitely right about one thing: It was unusual to see her swimming in the water. It wasn't that she avoided water; Antony had always considered the two of them to be a relatively clean pair; it was just that bathing tended to be done in the convenience of a waterfall rather than by total submersion. No real reason for that behavior, but just because.
That fact was driven home to Antony when he finally tracked down his mate, finding her flopped in the shallows of the pond and looking like...well, he wasn't sure what she looked like. A half-beached otter came to mind, but as he doubted Lessy would care to hear that comparison, he merely filed it away and gave her his best "it's morning but I'm still cheerful" smile.
"Lost? I would argue that you are the lost one, Lessy, scampering away in the early morning. You had me concerned there for a minute!" He was obviously teasing; they both knew that Loveless was more than able to defend herself against just about anything and that Antony would be there in a second if she was in trouble anyway! "But this is unusual, why awake so early?"

Loveless felt the same childish glow every time she saw Antony. No matter how close they were, it was always fun to see him again. Plus he was pretty damn good at making grand appearances in front of her. "Oh hello." she then answered, while chuckling and shaking her hair out. It'd be nice if she could dry off faster, but ah well. He was used to seeing her in all sorts of scenarios at this point! Even if she didn't look her best at the moment. The water had felt wonderful, though.
"And I don't know. I just had a lot on my mind, and the water looked like a good alternative to thinking." she moved herself along the shallow front until she was now completely out of the water, with only hooves submerged. "I just couldn't sleep anymore. I hope I didn't wake you?" That wasn't her plan, anyhow. If Antony wanted to sleep in then she was all for it.
Even though her mind seemed so frazzled when she had awoken, she considered the fact that maybe she had a bad dream or something. She woke up feeling much heavier than usual, but now that she had actually focused on other things she felt better than before. If it was to blame on dreams, it was no surprise. She always seemed to dream about complicated things. "Did you sleep well my dear? I'd nuzzle you but I really don't want to get you soaked.."
