Temptation was on his way back from visiting his wonderful mother, Succubus. My my, she was such a hoot! The encounter had been incredibly ridiculous and his mother was lecturing him on how he had been 'gentle' to mares lately. Well unlike his twin brother Damnation, Temptation wasn't finding violence to be as satisfying at the moment. He was enjoying using the persuasion skills he had attained from his mother to get whatever he wanted. He was having no problem doing just that either. His mother was also in a sour mood because his father had gone off for a few days leaving her completely 'unsatisfied'. As IF that was what he wanted to hear as a son to these creatures. But alas, he left the situation in good humor and enjoyed his mothers hormonal lectures.

As he walked underneath the naked tree branches and towards a more familiar valley, he wondered where his other family members had been lately. He was constantly seeing his twin brother, so luckily that kept him busy. But when it came to all of the others he really had no clue.

Oh well, he thought. It was time to get his day going, and to see who he could find and run in to. He needed some good old entertainment and he was hoping to find some very soon. "Where oh where is my next victim today?" he then murmured, while sniffing the air for any signs of life. "Eureka." he then said with a mischievous grin. The jackpot was on it's way soon...

Frantic hoofbeats pounded on the hardened dirt ground below her, slowly growing louder as the terrain changed to more of a rocky landscape, golden hues narrowing in frustration as the valley below came into view. Perfect. Just bloody perfect. A forest would have been nice, a river would have sufficed, hell, the bloody ocean would have been preferable- but a valley. Just great.

The furious roar of the aggravated mother bear behind her made Cetra force her legs into a faster gallop, cursing her soft-heartedness for finding that stupid cub and bringing it back to its stupid cave... she hadn't even thought the mother bear was there, until that massive paw had lashed out and caught her left wing. Now, unable to fly, and having the blasted bear right on her heels, it was a wonder she wasn't cursing aloud for the whole world to hear.

In as much trouble as she was, however, Cetra would be damned before she dared call out for help. She would find a way out of this, somehow... there was no reason to get anyone else involved--

"OW!" several expletives pierced the air as the mare stumbled under the bear's claws, losing a bit of headway as she glared ahead. Blood dripped from a nasty gash on her hindquarters, hindering her pace slightly, but still she continued on. "Damn bear..." she muttered under her quick breaths, pushing her muscles to their limit as she sped into the small valley.

He had picked up the mare's overall scent in the air, but before he knew it he could also smell her blood. Blood? Was someone else hunting her for a different reason? Temptation was confused. He couldn't smell another Soquili around him. So why the hell was he smelling blood in the air?

Just then, he heard the mare's voice. Alright, well something was chasing her. Should he intervene? I mean, he was bored as HELL. And he pretty much could take on anything. He was born with a great intimidation and a wonderful blood lust. Once the scent of blood became apparent around him he could only get excited. He didn't have fear in his eyes. Just the determination of testing his own strength in the manner of a game. This could be fun.

He quickly progressed into a gallop and wondered if flight was necessary to catching up to the ruckus. After a few minutes went by, he was about to hit the skies until seeing a very bright figure just paces in front of him. Aha, so a bear was chasing her. It was a very large bear indeed and he could feel the mare's pain and anger at the situation. It must have been unfair to be powerless. The bear didn't look very strong but it definitely had the upper hand because of claws and teeth. Ah well, Temptation could be the savior she needed for the time being... though what could he get out of the situation? Only time could tell.

So without further ado, he sprinted as quickly as he could and allowed for his wings to quicken his pace. He was just seconds away from the bear, and when he was able to reach the creature's path he rammed his body into it and watched it fall many inches away from the mare. "You aren't going any farther." he then roared, while flaring his teeth and raising his shoulders. "You'll have to go through me to get to her." Silly bear. It'd be best if it ran along now. But it did pose as a very tasty snack if it decided to give up it's life.

Through the haze of her vision, Cetra had barely caught sight of a black and red blur darting into the corners of her vision before it abruptly rammed into the side of her attacker, sending it sprawling to the side with an angered roar. Bracing her forelegs, she skidded to a halt, whirling to face her savior with words or gratitude ready on her tongue- though she hadn't needed their help- before golden eyes fell upon the demonic horns, the spaded tail, and the bat-like wings that adorned his back. The words died before they left her mouth, and instantly, she was on alert again.

Kalona.

The gesture, while seeming chivalrous, and might have even been sweet coming from anyone else, was meaningless from such a creature. It was likely he had only saved her to protect the prospect of his next meal- her, if she wasn't careful.

The crimson mare barely took notice of the mother bear rearing up on its two hind paws and eyeing the two soquili calculatingly, deciding it was perhaps better to cut its losses, rather than face the wrath of both four-legged creatures- one of them with an obvious bloodlust. Keeping a wary eye on the darker one, it turned and padded away from them both, leaving the two in a tense silence that only grew in heaviness as Cetra contemplated how best to approach this situation.

This kalona stallion had saved her, Cetra acknowledged that grudgingly, but it did not mean for a moment that she didn't face a greater danger of becoming his next victim. Still, she was forced to realize that her honor refuted her from simply leaving him to his own devices... she was grateful, but she would have much rather dealt with it on her own, or been saved by a member of another breed than be forced to give this... creature her thanks.

"My thanks," she forced out lowly, though the words were more of a forced grit with a steel edge as she eyed the demon-like horns upon his head warily. "But if you saved me only to make me your next meal, I'm afraid you are sorely mistaken." She was well-aware that, tired and injured as she was, she would stand no chance against an attack, should he attempt to move on her, but she would die fighting, if she had to.

Temptation was not surprised to see that the bear had chosen to retreat. At least the creature wasn't a complete idiot or waste. But it was entertaining to watch it skit away in utter shame. Nature was certainly glorious when you were on top. And he knew how the top felt every day of his life.

He may have been dazed for a moment, but his thoughts were interrupted when the mare spoke. It sounded like she had thanked him. He turned his much calmer face towards her and noticed a not so friendly expression back. Oh? So she was a feisty one? Why were most mares so grumpy nowadays? There must have been something in the water. It would explain where his mother came from as well.

"Please, how could I leave a damsel to be distressed." His tone of voice had returned to it's usual smoothness and his shoulders lowered so he looked less intimidating. Before he could add any other tidbits or words, his ears flicked at her next comment and he felt a chuckle erupt in his stomach. Well, at least she knew what he was in species and what he was capable of. He hated when dumb mares approached him all like "omg, what wings are those?!" They never lasted very long.

So, with a turn of his shoulder, he maneuvered his body so that he was facing the mare more normally now. "I don't believe in eating mares. That would be a waste, especially when they have other uses." He was always rather blunt and to the point. But that was what made him, him. "But anyways, you can relax a bit if you'd like. I ate this morning and was over-satisfied.." His mother was extra grouchy when they hunted, so she decided to kill an entire family of deer. Let's just say he had over-stuffed himself for quite a few days... "So how the hell did you get a bear chasing you?" Such a thing made no sense to the stallion, naturally.

"I am no damsel," she gritted out through a tight jaw, 'and you are no knight in shining armor,' she added inwardly, though her mouth said nothing more. He had saved her, good intentions or no, and she owed him a debt... he at least deserved civility. The fact that he was a kalona was hard to overlook, especially when the telling factors were staring her in the face- quite literally- but Cetra lived by her honor, and honor dictated that she owed him for his rescue, no matter what the reasons behind it may have been.

Her tensed muscles relaxed slightly as he let his own posture slump a bit, and the smooth tone in which he spoke as well as the imploring light of his eyes could almost make her believe that he was not as malicious as he appeared. His words about how mares had other uses, however, made her own golden hues narrow in indignation. So, it appeared that he was a bit of a pompous chauvanist as well. Good god, she would have preferred the bear.

"I found its cub lost in the woods," she muttered, deliberately redirecting her stare away from him. "Tracked down its cave, and had just hoped to leave it there... I didn't expect the mother bear to be there waiting for me." Honestly, she'd thought the cub's mother would have been on the hunt for her missing offspring, not waiting at home. It was a foolish oversight, but one that she would be certain not to repeat.

A pause. Introductions would be appropriate, though he hadn't offered his yet. "My name is Cetra. It's... a pleasure to meet you." The words were spoken a bit grudgingly, but not insincerely. "I am in your debt, for helping me." She refrained from using the word 'saving', because she still wasn't entirely sure that she had been saved, exactly.

So it was just as Temptation had suspected. He had stumbled upon one of those mares. He could sense how uncomfortable she was. But why? He has absolutely no idea as usual. Now, the next question was... should he care? He supposed it could be entertaining to show he cared to say the least. So ahoy into the conversation he went! What else did he have to do today, anyhow?

"It's a pleasure, Cetra. Call me Temptation." Most were surprised by his name. He was getting quite used to explaining it and really didn't mind if others judged. His parents had their own naming rituals and he found himself a good chip off the old block. He took after his mother quite well in that regard. "And hm, I see. You were just trying to be a good civilian in the forest." He understood it wasn't the mare's initial fault that the bear misjudged for her actions. "Unfortunately a mother bear is not to be reckoned with. I've never understood the parental thing myself, but it's a close bond I guess." So yeah, her interference was obviously not rewarded until he arrived, obviously.

He decided to move around and get the mare off her 'toes' a bit more. He could sense her utter displeasure so he decided to heighten it even more. So he walked in a circular motion and kept his eyes on the ground, chuckling along the way as he spoke. It was as if he was speaking to a doll of some sort or a creature that was much inferior then him. "Well, it was my pleasure in helping such an innocent beauty." he paused. "But why do I sense some fakeness in your words? Don't you feel that cold, harsh anger that's in the air? I am curious as to why? Has a Kalona gotten you're tongue before? Or maybe someone else's that you know?" Hm. That was his guess at least judging from his other conversations of the past.

He then raised his eyes and looked to hers, stopping his circular motion quite slowly. "And I suppose you have a debt, but I haven't decided what that is yet."

"Temptation," she echoed, one delicate brow raising at the slightly odd name, "how fitting." The words were spoken with a decidedly sarcastic edge, though she struggled to keep her tone civil, and was somewhat placated at the more neutral turn that the conversation took. She nodded at his words, relaxing a bit, even as she was slightly abashed at her own mishap. She didn't like the idea of having to be rescued one bit... but perhaps there were worse candidates to call her savior. After all, though obviously a full-blooded kalona, he had not given her the impression that he was as malicious or bloodthirsty as she had come to know as the norm for his breed. Perhaps she should give him a chance...

As his form circled around her like a predator circles its prey, and his callous words filled the air between them, however, all thoughts of reconciliation abruptly fled her mind. "That," she snarled through clenched teeth, form stiff and tense once more as her fur bristled, "is none of your business."

Her abhorrence to kalona was a deep-seeded resentment bestowed upon her by her father's abandonment, and quite the sore subject with the crimson mare. It was bad enough her dear mother defended him when he had left her miserable and alone to raise three children without help- but then he sought to liberate himself from guilt with the excuse that it was because of his kalona blood. Did she believe him? That wasn't clear. Of course, her resentment for kalona was only strengthened by Aquene's run in with the unikalona that stole away her ability to fly. Her only other true escape. She had ever met another with kalona blood worthy enough to be called soquili, much less friend.

The reminder of her debt was somewhat sobering to Cetra, drawing her mind away from her memories, and her golden hues settled into a glare, which she directed towards the ground beneath her hooves. "If anything you have in mind requires my involvement in your... feeding on or manipulating of other soquili, our deal ends here, debt or no. My honor is not worth my soul."

Another reason Temptation was greatly entertained had to do with the fact that the mare didn't have much fear for him. She definitely hated him, and he could imagine it all had to do with him being a Kalona and all. No matter. He could only amuse himself more with each of the mare's hints for the situation. She was a fiery one towards him! Maybe she'd burst into flames right before his eyes. The land was full of weird creatures like that.

He decided to stop circling her, mainly because his legs were getting lazy. So he stopped in a usual facing-her position and watched her with a smirk. "See now, here's where you are wrong. It kinda is my business. If you have some beef with my breed, then I'd like to hear it. Just because I enjoy hearing all the stupid s**t my 'brethren' do as a species." Ugh, morbid creatures they were. He hated most Kalona as much as he hated flowers!

"You see, I come from an amazing family. And although we share the same attributes as other Kalonas, we are at a much higher level. That isn't to say we aren't evil and do bad things. It's kind of hard not to when your father is completely destructive and you're mother is a succubus monster." Well, hopefully that would give the mare some insight on where he was coming from even though she didn't ask. But in honesty he did just love talking about himself and his parents, hell, he could do it all day!

"And goodness. I have other pawns that I use to create mischief in this world. I wouldn't try and convince or 'make' you. You're much too... pink and fluffy. Completely unbelievable." A small chuckle left his mouth and he grinned with a usual smile. "So what, am I the only one who will be talking? I can go all day here. But if you'd like to contribute somehow, I'm all ears." And teeth, since that's what her expression kept showing.

"Oh, is it now?" her tone was biting, although she had enough sense to ease up on the threatening posture she had instinctively assumed. In a fair fight, Cetra had no delusions about who would win- she was clearly no match for him, and it would be foolish to even try. Still, his words tempted her, though she was beginning to wonder if he was making her angry on purpose. Was he finding joy in her retaliation? She couldn't fathom any reason why- he had to have met his fair share of soquili that shared in her views... it wasn't that uncommon, was it?

"Well, Temptation," the name was spoken with a mocking emphasis of his name, though her anger had receded a bit in her confusion, "my father was one of your 'brethren'. At least, part kalona. And he used it as an excuse to leave my mother after my brothers and I came to be. And as if that wasn't enough, one of your other 'brethren' attacked my herd in an insane bloodlust," she gritted, golden hues turning away from his own glare, "and robbed my mother of her ability to fly. So, tell me... why should I not hate your kind? I've not yet seen one of you who amount to anything but beasts who take pleasure in ruining lives."

Perhaps it was possible that there were kalona out there that weren't simply intent on ripping everything that breathed apart with their teeth. But there were other ways to assert dominance and- in Cetra's own words- ruin lives. Temptation didn't seem to be the sort interested in feeding more than conversing... but that didn't mean he sought an honorable purpose.

His pride in his own family was to be expected, but she didn't quite know what to think about his comment on other kalona. It was already obvious to her that he wasn't like the ones she had known, but was species truly where the similarities ended? "And what of you? Are you 'evil and do bad things' as well?" she asked, shifting on her feet lightly at the implication. In all honesty, she hoped for a negative answer, but knew better than to expect one. His next comment, however, drew her attention away from the question.

"Pink and fluffy?" she echoed incredulously, onyx and crimson-feathered wings bristling in indignation, though she fought back her fury. It was a stab at her abilities, but not an unfamiliar one... it was true, she knew she didn't look like much. She ached to correct him, to prove him wrong, but she bit her tongue. Better he underestimate her than the opposite. Perhaps she would be given an opportunity to make him eat his words. The thought brought her some satisfaction.

"And what else do you suggest I contribute?" she inquired flatly, one eyebrow raising as her anger calmed slightly.

He was quiet as she spoke about herself. He could sense her honesty and was glad she wasn't attempting to make anything up. Sure, her story was sad. But unfortunately it was life- in the sense that for those unlucky enough, most Kalonas would ruin lives. Most Kalonas never understood the consequences of their actions. Most also didn't understand the value of another's life. Temptation would be the first to admit that his family wasn't perfect and that he had done some very stupid things to other creatures. But he'd never intentionally crush another's soul without understanding guilt or remorse. Or without having a real reason to.

"I am sorry for your family's troubles." he finally said, while nodding appropriately. "But like I said, Kalonas are pieces of s**t, plain and simple." Well, that was a start to the conversation. "Please please, you have every reason to hate. Hell, if I were you I'd kill on sight. But that would be suicidal if anything." He cringed his nose together as if thinking of some other alternative. "I myself am a fan of revenge, I see nothing wrong with it. If I were you I'd go after the monster that destroyed your family." Eh, but some creatures didn't find peace that way. He and his brother were just lucky to have it all simple like that.

He wasn't surprised that she was accusing him of the obvious, and he laughed rather loudly before shaking out his mane. "Oh yeah, I have done a LOT of dumb things. But they were always fun and in my own good spirits. We all have to survive in our own ways." His tone of voice then changed from somewhat playful to more serious in a manner of seconds. "But you know, I have a family pride to carry. And although I have my own morals, both good and bad, I can never follow such insanity. Such.. worthless bloodlust." Hm. And it seemed Kalonas were never going to leave the land as a species. When he thought about it, it was why his family existed. To be different. But that was hardly enough. Not everyone could always be protected.

"Nothing wrong with being pink and fluffy." he also added, as if changing his mood back to a more normal one. "That's the way mares should be. If it was dark and gloomy or something I'd be freaked or kinda grossed out." And that would be just... weird. Or too resembling of his mother.

Of all the responses he could have given, the one she received was the once Cetra had expected the least. Indifference, ridicule, even the possiblity of turning the blame on her would have been more likely- but somber, serious, and even a bit sympathetic? Perhaps that was taking it a bit far, but it almost seemed like he had a heart. Telling her she had every reason to hate his kind, not condemning her view of the monsters that were so much like himself... she wasn't sure how she could tell that the words were genuine, except that she could only hear sincerity in his deep voice.

Well... she had been wrong before, but Grandfather was always telling her about those deserving of second chances.

Shifting a bit uncomfortably under the weight of her personal revelation, golden hues lowered to her hooves once more, almost hesistant to meet his gaze. His mention of 'worthless bloodlust,' did at least comfort her a great deal- that he was not an instigator of senseless violence, and did not even condone it was a big step in the right direction. Of course, his morals would still be under question- she couldn't trust that easily, with him being what he was- but it was a start.

His further comments of her appearance did ruffle her feathers a bit, both figuratively and literally- but it was obvious that he meant it as no insult, so she could be pacified with that. The nature of the latter part of his statement prompted her to raise a brow, however- weren't all kalona attracted to things of their likeness? Well, she supposed that was stereotypical... but it was still a bit of an odd statement to make.

"You prefer pink and fluffy?" she asked in a bit of an incredulous tone as her eyes rose to meet his once again, though this time, there was even a small bit of humor glimmering in their depths. "So you are partial to pink, fluffy bunnies?" The image alone nearly made her snicker, though she kept herself in check- who knew if he might take it as an insult, rather than a good-natured mock.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:49 am

Her question was enough to prove that she was lightened in the mood, and he was glad. At least he had proved himself against her first impressions. But if she were smart she would understand each of his words individually and carefully. He didn't admit to being anything close to saintly or good. He just admitted to being different then his fellow Kalona asses. But no matter. Their current conversation was too interesting to bring in violence. Unlike his brother, Temptation enjoyed persuasion and conversation to blood and violence. It was more impressive to be witty then just full of brute strength. It was also more fun in general, and less messy.

"I'm sorry to disappoint, but I eat bunnies quite often." he smirked at his own comment and loved hunting for the little rascals as a hefty snack. "I just meant I get so tired of mares who act almost too similarly to myself. It's... frightening. And I wonder if they are actually mares." he could only chuckle as he thought about it and was glad to be staring at not one of those mares at the moment. She was probably confused at why he'd bring that up, but Temptation was never a liar. He preferred honesty even if it could offend those around him.

"So." he tilted his head and watched her young eyes carefully. "You seem less afraid or angry then before. Are you actually trusting me?" he slanted his unusual eyes and grunted in delight. "Do you think that is a good idea? I wonder..." Maybe he had allowed her to get too comfortable? But that was the fun in it all!

His comment about eating rabbits made her wrinkle her nose a bit, but in all honesty, it was much better than admitting he fed on other soquili. He was a carnivore, after all, and she could understand that he needed it to live. Just because she accepted it, however, did not mean she was comfortable with it- it was only a reminder that he represented all which she had come to hate, even if he himself was proving that he might be an exception.

"'Trust' is a bit of a leap," she admitted with a shift of her onyx and crimson-feathered wings, shifting her eyes to meet his glowing yellow gaze once again. "I have no doubt that you are capable of pleasant conversation, but that tells me nothing about who you actually are." His latter comment made her raise a brow, spurring a brief bout of contemplation at the words. Did he not want her to trust him? That really made no sense to her, especially if his own end game was to turn it against her. Why then would he discourage the prospect of gaining her trust?

"Is there a reason I should still be wary of you, Temptation?" golden irises slanted over to flicker on his more deadly extremities, lingering on the bat-like wings protruding from his back before meeting his own eyes once more. "You have disproved my reasons for hating or fearing you, yet you discourage the prospect of gaining my trust. Is there some reason you wish to not have it?"

Perhaps there was some deeper reason to this, rather than the obvious manipulative approach he seemed to be fond of taking. Her father, though she had very few times come to hold a conversation with, had been unable to trust himself, and thus spurned any possibilities of others trusting him- yet Temptation had no reason to do so. At least not one that was obvious.
