Bio: When G-Corp, Gambino’s Biochemistry and Technology Company, Research and Development Division first got wind of the Zurg invasion in 2006; they undertook the task of creating a weapon suitable for the first and only lines of defense against extra-terrestrial beings…the G.I.B and the G.I.W. It was initially a hit in both organizations; however it saw very little use in the field due to the minuscule amount of hostile engagements with the Zurg. Soon thereafter, the Mk 13 was essentially thrown in the recycling bin. As a matter of fact, it could have been lost for good was it not for a few benevolent agents in the G.I.B: Code White who had somehow gotten their hands on the rifle. Within months, the last of the rifles had been sold through underground deals to the highest bidder.
The Mk 13 would soon be given many nicknames by its wielders and enemies alike. Above all, the one name bestowed upon the XG Mk 13 that seemed to stick was short and sweet; “The Reaper”. Due to the limited number of Mk 13’s created only the richest and most powerful of men had access to it. As a matter of fact, the only group of people that were even seen having more than two in use at a time was Omicron Inc., a private military contractor company. (They actually had four of the rifles to themselves. However, only a select group of individuals had the opportunity to use it. Dubbed “The Four Horsemen”, this elite strike force was responsible for the death of nearly 600 enemy combatants during their time with the company…but that’s an entirely different story, for a different time.) Just as quick as it had risen to fame, it would fall into the obscurities of infamy. During a high priority escort mission, a group of Gain Mercenary Leaguers were ambushed by an unknown faction. A few lives were lost, and the objective was compromised to the point of abortion. During an aftermath scavenging of the area of the attack, a weapon was found, and on this weapon was the G-Corp logo.
At first glance, not much was thought of the rifle being made by the company. After all, G-Corp was known for selling their weapons to all sorts of companies; so why think twice about this? However, after a member of their Intelligence Department took a second look at it, she noticed that it resembled something from a file she put together a while back. “Project XG Mk 13”. She, of course, went and informed her superiors of the possibility of the weapon being supplied by the ally organization, the Gaians In White. When word finally trickled down to those in charge of the original project they tried their best to keep the mishap a secret…But we all know the big boss Gambino wouldn’t have that. When he got wind that an armament with his name in it was being sold, and he wasn’t getting any profit from it, something was going to have to change. Gambino himself soon issued an order for a new revised version of the Mk 13. Thus, The XG Mk 13 Mod 0 was created. Its sole use now is to be determined by the military, or like always, the highest bidder.

In operation the sub-machine-gun operates on the electronic pulse action principle. The system uses a primer, electronically-fired at 17.5 volts. +/- 2 volts, the upper and lower limits preventing fire from either stray currents or static electricity. The direct electrical firing eliminates the mechanical delays associated with a striker and the possibility of jams with an extraction system, allowing for high sustained rates of fire. An LED counter on the receiver above the magazine well provides a visual record of rounds remaining. Electrical power for the rifle is provided by an internal Polymer Ion power cell which has a runtime life of 10,000 firings and can be recharged from the ports built into all rifle racks or weapon lockers.

Other: The common rifling twist rate for this cartridge is 1 in 16.1 inches, which is ingrained into the weapon. Due to the higher power of the machine gun wearing down the barrel quickly, each bullet is fabricated with a twist that follows the rifling twist of the barrel, to reduce wear. They are also covered in a full metal jacket.
