I have sick goldfish. He's a big fantail with a tail at least as long as his bodyA few days ago I noticed he had some "torn" looking fins. They weren't real raggedy, they just looked split into long ribbons. Was mostly on the top fins of his tail. I decided what I was looking at was the beginning of fin rot. I had some melafix in the house and decided to start dosing him. I did it for 3 days and he looked fine.
BUT, just now I went in the bedroom to go to bed...and OMG eek It's awful! he's covered in white slime or something, all his fins seem to all of a sudden be rotting off and the white slime or sin or what ever is all over one eye, it's so gross, his eye looks like a fried egg or something! he looks miserable too, you know the way goldfish just HANG there. I have no idea what to do!!! is he having a reaction to the melafix? I didn't give him anymore!
HELP! crying

Whats your tank size, water parameters, cleaning schedule, how do you clean, and when was the last cleaning?
I would do a partial, dose it with aquarium salt, and a broad spectrum antibiotic.

Oi, sorry to hear about your gold fish. I find it common that goldfish get sick, and when they get sick they get hit hard and only when their symptoms get noticeable its already too late.
Well, I would recommend you do a through cleaning of his tank with hot water and salt before you get any more fish. Goldfish diseases are the worst.

Next time this happens (hopefully it won't, hehe), I strongly recommend you get a water test done. If you don't have test kits at home, you can take a water sample to any pet/fish store; all the ones I know of do free water tests. The water tests will let you know if the problem is a bad disease, or if the fish is just uber-stressed by bad water. And bad water can be fixed. 3nodding
