Audrey was afraid of very few things. Charonite was first on that list, after that were deep water and clowns. Scary bastards. Never in her life would she have thought she would be daunted by a school full of boys! But standing outside of Hillworth Grammar, she simply wished the ground would swallow her whole. Earlier that day she'd received a text message demanding her presence at the gym office up at the boys school.

Ostensibly, Charonite did all of his work from the office. It made sense, being able to recruit troubled boys for the Negaverse. Still, slim white hands tugged at her skirt, and she was glad she'd thought to wear her gym shorts home from school underneath. Taking no chances, that was her! Gripping her backpack tightly, she walked through the gates, making sure to keep her eyes fixed about a foot above everyone's head as she passed.

She'd been here before, but only at night, and only as Linarite. For the bluenette, broad daylight made everything deceptively normal. Nobody would ever even suspect the nefarious organization festering in the heart of the gymnasium. Giggling softly at the thought, she stopped outside of the door marked G. Killingworth. Fingers straightened her hair and posture, before she tried to knock as assertively as she knew how.

"Sir? Are you there sir?"

"Come in."

If Charonite was a deepwater clown to Audrey, his voice matched. When she opened the door -- assertively! -- he was sitting there at his desk, wearing the usual and slightly-baffling accoutrements of the high school gym teacher, an unused whistle around his neck and his heavy dreads tied back in a rough ponytail. He was looking over a sheaf of paper as she closed the door behind her, flicking the lock when he made an impatient movement with his hand, seating herself down when beckoned on the hard plastic chair in front of his desk.

It was a really uncomfortable chair.

"Lieutenant," he said, looking up, not beating around the bush. He wasn't wearing his sunglasses, for once. His eyes were a very pale shade of grey, arresting in his dark face. "Let's not bullshit with small talk. You're bored. You're not getting any meaningful goddamned work done, because you're bored."

He drummed his fingers impatiently on the desk. "I know your type, Linarite. You're just ******** around at the moment, getting nothing accomplished. Lieutenant Nealite told me you let a starseed go. Are you going to tell me I'm wrong?"

Trying her hardest to not fidget as the hard plastic flattened her soft teenage flesh into a cold pancake, the lieutenant listened attentively. She was trying very hard to look her General-King in the eyes, but it was so unsettling to actually see them that it was increasingly hard.

Taking a short breath, Audrey shook her head quickly at his question. "Absolutely not sir. Your assessment is correct, on both counts. It can be somewhat boring, waiting for things to heat up. And yes, I let Castor slip away through my own foolishness." Excuses only worked on your parents, they never worked on Charonite. That was something he had taught her early on, during her early chess losses.

He would brook no excuses, and he expected her to improve with each meeting. Unfortunately, she could not say that such a thing had happened since he'd last graced her with his presence. Inwardly, she wanted to go on about what a talky, slandering b***h Nealite was. It was just so TYPICAL of her to run tattling to Daddy Charonite about her slip-up. That ******** b***h. She wasn't so hot that Audrey would just forgive and forget.

Oh no, she'd remember.

"I promise I will not let him escape the next time we fight alone." That was a fairly safe statement. She just would not let herself be alone near the senshi boy she'd met in the park. That should save her a**. Hopefully.

The General-King propelled his chair back until it was tilted against the wall; his arms were folded over his chest and he tapped out a tattoo on one arm. "Sailor Castor's become a god damned problem," he said. "A problem I don't want you dealing with."

Well, that was unsuitably crushing. Except that then he straightened up and said: "I have a new assignment for you, Linarite. I'd previously given it to Lieutenant Nealite, but she was made... unsuitable." (What that meant was unclear, except for the most important part, that Nealite had been taken off the case.) "I need recon, Lieutenant. I need ******** info. I need someone with eyes and ears who can tell me in exact ******** words what they've encountered -- and get away without getting your a** ******** involved, but get the info."

He steepled his fingers. "A row of pawns and one queen, Linarite. No other pieces. Tell me. What's the move?"

Nealite was unsuitable?! Well those were magical words if she'd ever heard them! It was suddenly no pain at all to sit in the hard chair, to listen attentively, and to show active interest. If this was Nealite's job, she was going to throw herself at it with aplomb! Rubbing into that cocky b***h's face was going to be so worth it when she found out this morsel!

Enthusiasm dimmed somewhat when she was told the details. It was very easy to gather information on the enemy. They weren't even remotely discrete and were on the news every other day. Flashing their panties at the cameras, how shameful. Well, whatever. It worked for them! Her mind raced so fast, she almost missed the question.

One finger came up to wind a blue curl around a finger as Audrey thought. "The most logical answer is to go straight for the queen. Pawns are immaterial and replaceable. Remove the head, the body disintegrates. Any organization operates under this imperative. Expendable pawns, every loss is a worthy loss if you get what you came for." Right? Probably not, but it was all she could tell him. To her, this was how it worked.

"You're right," he grunted, which was as much as she'd get in terms of congratulations!. "Take away the queen and the rest is just cleaning up. Too bad that life isn't a game of god damned chess, Linarite, or you'd be Captain already."

He leant forward. "I don't just want any info," he said. "I want these sons of bitches ranked, Miss Collins. Pawn becomes queen too ******** quickly on an unchecked board. Do up what info you already know, then tell me which of the senshi have been around the longest -- leave 'em around too long and they become super senshi. There's already two of those out there. Nova, Nerissa. Up to you to find out if there's more I don't know about."

Charonite eased back in his chair again, tapping the desk. "Who've you encountered so far? Report."

That brought her head up. "So far sir? So far I've only had the fortune of meeting Sailor Castor. He didn't eve want to attack me sir, just sort of scuttled backwards while I swung at him. Had we not been interrupted, it might have gone favorably. But I am sorry, I failed you." Eyes cast downwards, she waited for the tirade that would certainly ring down around her head for this.

Perhaps there were less senshi than they thought, if she'd only met the one so far. There had been no lack of nighttime surveillance, but simply not one senshi had been seen besides Castor!

Maybe the anger wouldn't be too harsh.
