Initially, the corn maze had sounded like an excellent idea. Mazes weren't difficult. Not on paper, at least. Lyell found that it was quite different when one was inside the maze itself. Especially when the maze wasn't even composed of straight lines...

Lyell and Mari had gone into the maze together. However, at some point in time they were separated. This wouldn't have been so bad if Lyell could see over the corn like he could nearer to the maze's beginning. He couldn't. He wasn't putting his hopes on Mari being tall enough to see over the stalks either, considering she... wasn't exactly tall herself.

With a sigh, Lyell had set to wandering the maze alone, praying he may find an exit or at least another person...

A maze, a maze! Kabocha had eagerly run into the maze without really paying much attention to where exactly he was going. His guardian had tried keeping up, but at one point Talner had turned where he thought the boy had gone only to realize that he'd lost the kid.

The pumpkin boy, however, was still eagerly racing through the maze, dead ends not upsetting him. He was going to beat his brother through the maze! And to do that, you had to be fast! Super fast!

With the race in mind, he flew around another turn, headed on a direct crash course with another little boy...

Lyell wasn't in quite so much of a rush to finish the maze. Then again, he wasn't racing anyone either. If nothing else, he was enjoying the brisk fall day while he wandered about, completely and totally lost.

This lasted until a sudden impact left Lyell fallen on his butt. Blinking in confusion, he sat up and moved to stand again. It was at this point he found just what had caused his fall and paused, blinking at the other boy. "Are you okay?" he questioned, standing fully and offering a hand to the other. It was then that it clicked in Lyell's mind that the other boy had been running. He didn't seem frantic, but... "Was someone... or something... chasing you?"

Kabocha ran smack into another kid, the impact causing him to stumble back and fall down as well. "Oops... sorry." He stood, starting to brush his clothes off. "You okay?" He asked, nodding in return to Lyell's first question.

"Huh?" The second caught the boy by surprise and he stopped brushing off his clothing. "Oh, uh... I'm racing my brother. He said he'd beat me through the maze..." Kabocha looked around and frowned. "You... wouldn't happen to know the way out, would you?"

Lyell gave a nod to the question. He had begun brushing off his own clothes, just a quick action, when the other boy explained why he'd seemed like he was in such a rush. A soft sigh fell from his lips, accompanied by a nod. Well, that was a relief. Nice to know there weren't any serial killers with hockey masks (or something like that) roaming around the corn maze. At least, not any this boy knew of.

Kabocha's following question earned a little chuckle from Lyell. "If I knew the way out, I wouldn't be wandering around myself." Nope. He'd wait outside, maybe call Mari's name now and again. But like hell would he go back into the maze just to be lost again.

Kabocha grinned. "Yeah, guess not." He looked in the direction the boy had just come from and the direction he'd come from. He frowned. Neither of them had found the exit behind them... "Want to work together?" After all, while he didn't want to admit it, Kabocha was rather lost.

It wasn't a difficult choice for Lyell to make. Agreeing to work together with Kabocha, for one, would mean he was no longer by himself. Company was always a nice thing to have. Working together with Kabocha also might very slightly increase their chances of finding the exit. Of course, it might also contribute to their turning each other around and getting more lost than they were before, but... again, at least he wouldn't be alone. And so Lyell offered a friendly smile to the other boy. "Why not?" Pausing for a moment, Lyell blinked before, upon realizing his lack of manners, offering further comment. "My name's Lyell. What's yours?"

Kabocha grinned happily as Lyell agreed to work together. Excellent! Now he could beat Nate for sure! "Oh, sorry. I'm Kabocha," he replied, offering a hand for the other boy to shake. Formalities over with, the pumpkin pocky boy frowned and looked around. "Which way?"

Lyell blinked, considering for a few moments before pointing in the direction he'd come from. "There were a few more paths that way... that I haven't taken yet. At least, that I think I haven't taken yet..."

Kabocha nodded. "Okay!" That sounded good to him. He'd forgotten which paths he'd already traveled, so anything sounded good to him at this point. He just wanted to beat his brother out of the maze. "Do you have a brother?"

Lyell glanced down in the direction he'd come for before beginning to move in that direction. They weren't going to make any progress just standing around, right? "Nuh-uh," he answered with a little shake of his head. "It's just me and my mom."

Kabocha followed along, frowning. That couldn't be much fun! He liked having his brother around. Nate played with him a lot of the time. It was a lot of fun. Sure, they fought on occasions, but, that was fun too, really. "Oh..." he commented, realizing he'd been quiet for a bit. What was he supposed to say now? Gah!

Lyell blinked as the answer seemed to have a negative effect on his companion. Shaking his head, he offered to the other an easy smile. "It's not that bad," he assured cheerfully.

Kabocha shrugged. "I don't think I'd like not having a brother... but I've never not had one..." Come to think of it, his brother had grown up without a brother... This was all rather confusing, really.

They came up to an intersection of paths and Kabocha glanced around. "Which way?" None looked familiar to him and they all really looked just as good as the other.

Lyell had never had a brother, so perhaps that was the difference. They were both so used to things being as they were, with or without a brother. It was hard to imagine things differently.

Looking down the separate paths, Lyell frowned briefly. Of course, it was a corn maze. Everything looked the exact same. "Uh..." The boy pointed down one path. "That way?"
