 Finally he was here, the swamp mud caused him to sink greatly as he trekked on and on. He knew this place, this smell. Kabu lived here; he'd been near here once. Of course, never this close, but it was enough. Grinning a bit more, the odd eyed male sniffed about. He was dirty, wary and tired. The only thing he had going for him, was that he wasn't hungry. He wanted to see his stocky female and settle down in a place where he thought he would belong. He could fit in better here than in the last pride he joined.
Tail flicking in the mud, Vestip finally got onto a patch of land that would support him. From his chest down was covered in mud, and upward was covered in dust from his journey here. Gods, he needed clean water and a bath. Something to drink, even. But most of all, he wanted a nap. So, on this patch of dry land, Vestip decided to curl up right there and flop on his side, eyes slowly slipping closed. He wouldn't sleep, but he'd be rested.

 Gods she was tired, her head heavy as she slipped form the den that now housed all eight of her cubs. They were sleeping for a change, giving the exhausted lioness a chance to slip out for fresh air. She loved all of them, but she had no idea how tired she would be all the time.
She lifted her head to see another lioness that she knew, Kabu made a soft rumbling/purring sound at her friend Sem, knowing the black lioness would bellow if anything happened. Smiling at her lovingly, the stocky blue lioness padded away from the den feeling safer now that her friend was there for 'her' cubs.
Pausing at the edge of the water, Kabu sighed in relief as she felt the swishy mud between her toes, flexing her claws into the squishy ground. "I miss you Uko..." She sniffled faintly as she looked into the river that she knew had carried her sisters body away. "You would be so proud. They are beautiful."

Something caught his attention. Movement, followed by a faint voice. His ears twitched and his eyes snapped open, head cocking to the side. There wasn't much said and Vestip couldn't be sure who it was, still he was curious. Getting to his paws, muscles screaming at him the whole time, he grunted and stood still for a moment. Even if it wasn't Kabu, they would still probably know her, right? So what was the harm in asking someone?
He started off again, towards the voice. This brought him to a river, which caused him to blink and smile. A river! Dipping his head in, he opened his mouth and drank from it, uncaring about who saw him drink like this. When one was thirsty, they tended to forget things like manners. Still, unmatching green eyes looked around when he got his head above the water again.
There, on the other side was a blue lioness that looked really, really familiar. It was Kabu. Only... thinner. It looked as though she'd changed a great deal since their last meeting. Splashing into the river, he would cross it. At the same time, get a bath. Then she'd recognize him from his handsome coat.
"Kabu!"

Kabu's head swung up as she blinked stunned...it..it couldn't be..."Ves?" Her voice was a meer whisper, barely a breath as she slowly got to her feet. Her eyes couldn't believe what she was seeing, he was here...coming from the river that just days ago had taken so much from her.
She took to shakey steps towards him before she paused, tears filling her violet eyes. "Ves is it really you?" Gods don't let this be another cruel dream...her heart would finally break under the cruel blow if it was. Wasn't her life hard enough right now without the added pain of dreaming of a love she couldn't have?

Great gods above, it was her. He crossed faster, swimming in the deep part and then slipped upon the mud under the water. He went under for but a moment and popped back up and tried to run towards her. Now he was completely wet and clean. Not caring if he got her soggy, he nearly tackled her, his head nuzzling against her own, a loud purr vibrating through his throat as he laughed and smiled. Fatigue was gone, thirst quenched, and his heart wouldn't stop beating so fast. That was a good sign, however.
He licked her cheek a few times before throwing a paw over her, resting it on the back of her neck and pulled her closer. Vestip would press their foreheads together as he tired to calm down, breathing deeply and smiling the whole time. So she was alright, safe and sound. So much tension came off of him then and he pulled back just a fraction to look at her face on.
"Hey... Kabu. It's.... neh, been a few months, hn?" he said in a casual tone, though it was shaky and thick with emotion.

She could no more help her tears than she could the laughter that spilled form her chest as she nuzzled his thick mane. For a moment all her pain was forgotten as she was one more pressed close to the male she loved. "Oh Ves.."
The stress and pain that she had been undr, coupled with her sudden rush of emotions was more than the exhausted lioness could handle. Tears of joy mixed with tears of pain and anguish as she buried her face in his bright red man and began to sob helplessly.
"Don't leave me, please Ves! I..I..I don't think I could handle it again." She hadn't been planning to beg him to stay, hell she hadn't really excepted, had hoped and dreamed, but not really expected him to come back.

The sobs that he heard weren't the type he was planning on hearing. His ears lowered and he tugged her close again, his heart almost breaking at those sounds coming from her. Leaving? Why would he?
"I left the pride to come here... Mawu and I... decided it was best I left. ...The children hated me. I hated being there.." he whispered into her ear. "I'm staying with you... There's ... probably nothing you can do to stop me." That part was supposed to make her smile. With a little smile, he pulled back and started drying her face, licking her cheeks carefully before giving soft nuzzles.
He wanted to be with her and no one else. Even Mawu saw he didn't want to be in that pride. "You..... are my life now. So... Your burden is mine and vise versa."

Nothing could stop her tears at the moment, the dark blue lioness pressing as close to her love as she could. "It's been so hard Ves, everything has gone wrong. Uko died right after giving birth, Unus has all but abandoned them so now I am trying to take care of eight cubs. Dusan seems so angry with me and with them. Tana helps but he is just a cub himself and I.." She closed her eyes nuzzling him, " I don't know what to do anymore. I am lost."
When he said she was his life nose, she looked up at him hope blazing in her eyes, "Do..do you mean that?Oh Ves I love you too."

Of course he meant it. Letting her do what she needed to calm down, Vestip listened to her woes and troubles with a bleeding heart. So she had even more cubs to take care of, which made him their 'father' figure. He went wrong with one batch of cubs already, but now he had a partner willing to help him learn how to deal with them. Maybe these cubs would come out normal.
He laid them both down and rested his wet head on her own, tail curling around her own. "I'll help you take care of the cubs. I.... don't know how much help I'll be, but I can try." Vestip meant every word he'd just said. Licking her gently, he wanted to soothe her; to calm her down. It seemed, however, it wasn't working.

True it set her off crying again, but this time it was tears of joy and relief, " oh love." The two words were so heartfelt and tender as she licked his jaw sweetly. It took awhile but her tears finally slowed to a trickle then stopped.
"Forgive me my love, " Kabu laughed weakly as she nuzzled his jaw, " I promise this is not the homecoming that I had in mind. I wanted to great you with love and kisses,not tears and hysteria." Chuckling weakly, she licked his nose again with a soft purr.
"They are all good cubs. Two more girls and one very tiny boy. He is small like Tana was, Tana has seem to take a liking to him and helps me with him a great deal...oh but Ves, she never even saw them when she was murdered...and she is not the only one. There have been a string of murders lately."

When she finally calmed down, Vestip smiled a bit more and groomed her neck and shoulders, working his way down her back. Shuffling a little bit, he maneuvered it so he was pressed even closer to her. So ...someone close to her died. From the sounds of it, her brother's mate. His ears folded again at that. Why did tragic things happen to good females.
"Then they don't need him... ...Just like my children don't need me..." is voice was sad and thick with all sorts of emotion. He hated having to leave like that. His eyes closed and he sighed lightly before shaking his head.

Kabu shook her head stubbornly as she gazed up at him, a steely look entering her violet eyes, " That is their lose then Ves, because I need you as do my eight young ones. Can you do that my love? Be my strong mate and help me raise this wild bunch?" She purred softly, determined to not let this reunion be filled with sadness any longer. She would long mourn Uko, but with his arrival, Ves had ignited the spark of life in her, filling her once more with strength and determination.
She would do Uko's and her own cubs no justice living in sorrow and anger anymore. With him by her side, Kabu knew she could be strong for her family and perhaps together they could find happiness and learn to laugh again.

Could he do all of this? He could try. That's what he told Mawu, too. Trying apparently wasn't his strong suit. But he had to remind himself that he wasn't with Mawu for love; but for cubs. Sure, in a certain way he did love Mawu, but not the way a mate should love their other half. Looking down at the blue lioness, Vestip gave a little smile and a nod. If she were to help him, he had a feeling he could help, and be more of a father than anything.
"Alright, Kabu. I'll.... help as best as I can. Might have to shove me at points in time, though. That ok with you?" But before he could hear her answer, he opened his mouth in a huge yawn, tongue curling out, tears gathering at the corners of his eyes. "Sorry..." he mumbled. "Haven't slept in a while. Wanted to get here soon.."

Kabu chuckled softly as she nuzzled him, "I know you will do your best. I don't expect you to be perfect or know it all, gods know I am lost half the time too. I just need you by my side. I know together we can handle anything life throws at us, from unruly cubs to...well...more unruly cubs!" She laughed her violet eyes dancing faintly.
No her sorrow wasn't gone, but now she had something good to look forward too, something to bring her joy. When he yawned, she laughed again, " It's alright love. I am rather tired myself, life has been...stressful as of late."

Listening to the endearments roll off her tongue so easily, Vestip wondered just how he managed to stay away from her for so long. Even with children. Pulling away from her to stretch his sore muscles, the male sighed. "Come on, Kabu. .....Show me to .....my new home." He could easily find this place to be a good home since this is where he wanted to be.
No more longing for her, no more wondering how she was. He could see her every day, ask her how she was doing. He could even make up for not being around his own cubs that much with her eight. That might be a little bit of an issue, but he'd try.
