Okay, so here's the situation: I have a novel I'm working on called Sleepless Dreams. I really like it, and I've got the entire plot worked out. Only problem? There's a whole bunch of backstory that doesn't fit with the story but really helps fill in the plotholes of the main plot.
So here's my main problem: Should the backstory be made into a prequel released after "Sleepless Dreams" is released? Or should it be written as the first of a series, then Sleepless Dreams would be released afterward?
And here are a few mini-problems: - Would the general public be interested in reading a prequel? Would you be interested? - What should the prequel be titled? I was thinking something like Sleepless Dreams PRE, but I'm not sure.
Any and all ideas and appreciated! Thanks!

Maybe a general idea of the plotline would be helpful to answering the questions...
Okay, so Sleepless Dreams is about Faxon Kaysar, a boy living in the middle east, sorta in the border between Israel and Palestine. Faxon sees visions of the future, but he doesn't want to believe them because they fortell distruction. Faxon meets a Japanese girl named Nikuya(her being in the middle east is explained in the prequel with great detail) who tells him about a special sword, which Faxon has seen in his visions. After she leaves and he finds the sword, he goes into the desert to find her. As he's going through the desert, he is attacked by a dragon and thrust into the air. they have an epic battle while falling through the sky, when Faxon realizes the dragon is Nikuya. He finally falls to the ground and escapes. He then begins his quest to change the fate is visions foretell and defeat Nikuya.
The story has the feel of a Greek epic, so it's very much about fate. And much of it is really fantastic, which basically means it's unrealistic. I think a prequel would help it make more sense.

I think it would be cool. no one has really made a prequel to a book before, so it would be an original idea.
