There was something infinately soothing about the sound of running water, no matter what time of the year, and Darcy was greatful to have found this particular haven. The water of the river did not run swiftly around large stones or downwards creating dips and rapids. No. Here, as it passed through a serene glade in the woods, it was slow and calm. There were even a few deep pools that were good for a quiet bath.
But that was neither here nor there at this particular moment in time. At this particular moment, Darcy was trying to enjoy what would likely be the last "good" day of the fall, by soaking up the sunlight that came through the nonexistant forest canopy and listening to the sounds of the river. He was at peace, content, not suspecting the events that would soon occur and shatter that fragile state.
He was somewhere in that hazy state between sleeping and dreaming when out of nowhere he heard the dying screech of a rabbit. The sound would normally not register as much on his view, but today there was somewhat different. His muscles instinctively reacted...predator, flee. And before he was even awake, the cold splash of near freezing water on his sensitive underbelly jarred him to consciousness.
Looking down after the water had stilled, he caught sight of his reflection. Bedraggled mane with bits of forest detritus, and sunken eyes that didn't shine with their usual brightness... he looked an absolute fright. A sharp cry pierced the silence.
"Noooooooo........"

It was getting colder. That, none could deny. Fall had come and now was taking its toll on the weather. But Szad did not notice. His winter coat was beginning to grow in. Though he did not need it. His sheer bulk, size and feathering kept him quite warm. But it did get in the way at times. Like right now, for instance. He had ventured into the chilled river to get a drink. But now his leg feathering was wet. And thus heavy. Szad let out a sigh. "Heavy..." He mumbled.
Suddenly he heard a cry. He jumped up and his head shot towards the direction that the sound had come from. It sounded like the speaker needed help. He slowly began to move against the weak current of the river. Usually he would run, but when one needed help, then....

How could this day get any worse? Darcy wondered with a sense of frustration. OK, so it hadn't been going to poorly, he'd gotten a good nap in the clearing, was able to soak up some sun- not that there was much- and was able to partake of a little peace and quiet. Really, what more could one ask for.
At least it was okay until his rather sudden and quite rude awakening. First was the indignity of being woken up by the icy fingers of the river. Then to top it off, he looked a fright. He was finally able to get some sleep, so the brightness of his eyes was slowly returning, but he seemed to have picked up all the underbrush the forest had to offer.
He sighed. There was no way he'd be able to get it all out by himself, and what he could manage would take a good deal of time and effort, to avoid any future problems and blemishes in his mane and tail. Oh well, the only way it would get done is if he started right away. Grumbling as he did so.

Szad had to lift his strong, diffined legs high up as to not allow his feathering to drag in the water bed. All the hair around his legs were fully soaked, and thus heavy. Yet his expresson was determined. He was going to find out who needed help, and with what. He walked for another minute before he found the owner of the vioce. It was a gray stallion. Smaller than Szad, as most mustangs were, and he seemed in distress. He was kneeling over the water and his expression seemed horrified.
What could have happened? Hurt leg? dropped something? Found something? Can't drink? In pain? To szad, it seemed impossible that the problem was a simple matter of knotted mane. He walked abit closer, careful to make some sound, not to suprise the strtanger, but not enough to scare him.
"Need help?" he asked with a gentle vioce.

Startled cinnamon eyes tore away from the frightening image cast on the water, and Darcy's instincts clamored for him to get up and run. His vanity wouldn't stand for him to be seen in such an unfit state, but the other more practical side knew itwas already far too late, so he'd need to do some damage (to his ego) control. Taking a few unnoticeable breaths to calm himself, Darcy plastered on his mask of cold dignity and hateur.
He might look hideous, but he'd be damned before he let that through in his manner. Having gotten control over himself, Darcy looked for the source of his most current, if not pressing stress. Sharp eyes quickly located the lumbering grey giant who'd come upon him in such a state.
Though the interloper was rather a giant, when compared to his own fine build, there was a slight air of timidity and an unspoken gentleness. Darcy quickly discarded the rebuke hovering on the tip of his tongue and revised his strategy. Perhaps this wasn't a complete and utter disaster.
He nodded briefly, acknowledging the other stallion's presence, then turned back to the waters and his completely inappropriate and scrring reflection. It was not his normal behaviour in such instances, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and with an appearance like he currently sported, things had gone way beyond desperate.
"I know that this may sound a little odd, but how good are you at untangling brush?"

Szad cocked his head, slightly confused by the odd question. "Errm...well.." He was not at all sure how to respond, but he pushed himself to, "i have d-done it once o-or twice...yes.." He took a few steps to come closer to the stallion in distress. Seeing what was tangled in his mane Szad smiled sheepishly, understanding the problem.
He walked up the the stallion and smiled in a friendly gesture, "Could you lower y-you head f-for me please?"
