The Library at Grove Academy is filled with thousands of books on a variety of subjects. Students can find almost anything they want here, anything they can't find can be obtained through their inter-library loan system. Students from the other realms will find books from the other-realms and guides on living alongside humans quietly and successfully. There are several long main rows, one along each wall and a wide open space for the Library Circulation Center in the very middle. Along the main rows there are shelves of books separated by isolated study areas. While the Library is mostly quiet, students are still allowed to hold hushed conversations.

[/imgright] Len's sense of direction was never great- so, as though he were in a maze, he walked through random twists and turns. The very reason why he came was lost four bookcases ago- back when he was in the romance section. Now, he was somewhere between Mystery and horror- just perfect, since he was picking out a random book...Needless to say, he would be getting nightmares about spiders and headless children.
He was quick to put the book back- his carelessness got his sleeve caught inbetween two books. When it was pulled out, the two books fell, then, like dominos, others connected to it fell. There seemed to be no damage, until he quickly tried to put them all back, and consequently got them all mixed up...
Today was certainly not his day. With a sigh, he rearranged the books, trying to get them back into their original spots. He just hope no one heard...((Blarg. My brother was messing around with the configuration of a game, and I had to help him fix it. sweatdrop Sorry if this post seems rushed.)

All the clunking and disorderly noise attracted attention, as it was always sure to do in the quiet of the library. But where others might have reprimanded Len for his clumsiness, his fault would earn him a small giggle. Fern Everlasting had found a very nice place to perch high above the heads of all the students and staff, right on the top of the shelf. It was rather dusty there, and filled with cobwebs, but it didn't bother the fae one bit. At four inches high, Fern could play with those cobwebs and spin with the dust motes like they were meant just for her. She wore an orange dress that fit her snugly, and little orange slippers. The cool air outside didn't bother her as it did the more vulnerable human students, and so she was quite comfortable. Fern sat on the edge of the book case, dangling her feet off and letting her shoe hang precariously on one toe. But that noise Len made gave her such a fright that she nearly lost her little slipper altogether. "Eh?" she said, leaning right over the edge until she tilted right over it, catching herself with a mad fluttering of her little wings. Now that she was moving in mid-air, Fern created a light glow and a glittering cloud about her. The little bit of dust and shimmer followed her all the way down, right where she perched herself upon a lower shelf behind Len. So, she said to herself. A clumsy boy! Just watching him anxiously pick everything up made her give a high-pitched laugh. No grace, even when there were no prying eyes to impress. But Fern ducked behind a book's protruding spine so she wouldn't be seen. This boy intrigued her.

Len never quite gotten use to the feeling of fear; in fact, it was being scared that made him seem more vulnerable. A weak point that he could never attempt to cover up, something that would eat at him...
...Because, despite being exceptionally different, he was human.
So, when he heard the sound of laughter, he was scared stiff. Surely, he was imagining things- but just to be sure, he turned his head around, and saw nothing. Not a single thing was out of the ordinary. He sighed to himself. This day will not end well.
After finally rearranging the books back to their original- if not, better suited- positions. After double checking, just to make sure, he started to walk away, turning at the corner away from where the laughter came from....Then went back to square one of the problem: being lost.
"Where...Where does this end...?"

Fern stepped out of her hiding place and tiptoed her way along the shelf. She was still glowing slightly, which didn't even strike her as something that would give her away. Her mind was far too preoccupied with following this boy, and maybe even playing a few tricks.
As he turned the corner, he was on the opposite side of her row of books. "Of course ye go 'round the other side," she mumbled, and with another great fluttering of wings, Fern had lifted herself into the air, up towards the ceiling and right back to where she had been before all the ruckus.
Her view of the library was restored. It was a lovely place, to be sure, but the boy below her didn't seem to be enjoying it nearly so much as she was. Fern thought that down on the ground, this must seem like a labyrinth. But she quite enjoyed being small and able to fly, which she certainly couldn't do when she was as large as a regular person.
Len's question caught her attention once more. "It ends at the beginning!" she chirped high above him. Her little voice may not have been heard all that well from down below, which was only a few feet from where she stood. That was half the fun: would he hear her, and if he did, where did he think she would be?

Len stopped. He had just heard someone speak up, he was absolutely sure of it! He turned around, his eyes searching for some figure of sorts, only to find that there wasn't anything standing on the ground. Could he have been mistaken? He blinked- no, it couldn't have been fake. A pause in his frantic movements after an idea hit him, and he slowly lifted his head up.
Wings. Actual, flapping wings.
He yelped in surprise, and fell back, landing on his butt. He was utterly speechless- perhaps it was because he had never seen someone fly with wings. His mind drifted back to the point of time where he had met some of his fellow dorm mates. One who could levitate, and another who had super human reflexes.
Maybe... Maybe the wings aren't real, and she's actually levitating..? Satified with this answer, he responded, keeping in mind that the girl might actually be enjoying this,
"You... You didn't need to try and scare me half to death, right?"

In a way reminiscent of Tinkerbell to Peter Pan, Fern flitted down right in front of his face and poked his nose. With a high laugh, she flew away a few inches to give him some space. That and with her constant laughing, she was bound to make her little glitter cloud even worse. Humans seemed so sensitive to it, judging from the times she had made them sneeze. "You're quite light on your feet, aren't ye!" she cried. "Better get on your feet before someone comes 'round, wonderin' what the fuss is."
Fern's face was beaming as she hovered in a little haughty stance, hands on her hips and legs straight out underneath her. She stuck out her chin at him. He was so odd and couldn't seem to keep up with her fast voice and movements to save his life. "Come now, come now! ...ye never seen a fae before, have you?" It must have been the only reason for his slowness! she thought.

Len blinked.
"...Fae?"
He racked his brain- was that some sort of family name? Like, 'A Huebert' or 'A Suprano'? He certainly wouldn't doubt that answer- it wasn't like any other race existed other than humans...
Right?
He recalled, once, reading an old newspaper- something about the discovery of other intellegent life. Those beings were 'found out', and sent somewhere far, so that people didn't freak out every five seconds or so when they realized one of them showed up. He, of course, never really seen one himself, so it would be impossible for him to exactly to if there was one race or different kinds...
...So, there was a possibility that she was a seperate being entirely.
Either way, he was helplessly confused; so, he shook his head no, and stared at her with slight fear mixed with curiousity.

Fern gave a frustrated, "Eh!" before alighting upon a nearby shelf. She took a few steps towards him, all the while looking down at her foot prints in the dust. "And how long have ye been in Grove?" she asked. "Surely you must know that there are elves an' angels an' all sorts of folk from the Realms here! And surely ye must know 'bout your own blood, and what you are that caused you to be chosen for this place?" Fern looked at his bewildered face once more. This boy was lost in more way than one, that was for sure, and she was determined to set him to rights.

((Ack! ... There really isn't an excuse, but I'm sorry!)) He felt a sense of determaination from her, but for what, he had no clue. His mind was on other things. Elves? Angels? Did they exist, too? Then again, what about him? He had powers, and he was... He was pretty sure he was human, and human's were always different compared to each other. Being different was normal.
He wasn't a normal human, though.
'Stop that!' He mentally scolded himself.'Just... I really need to stop thinking like that. I'm still me, regardless. Trying to stop anymore doubts from appearing, he forced  a reply out of himself.
"I've really haven't seen any angels, elves, or anything... 'Out of the ordinary', I guess. I've only gotten here since this morning." He didn't include the fact that he had only talked to some dormmates, because, well, it was pretty much only introductions.
He paused for a moment.
"You're the only odd person I've seen so far," He mumbled to himself.

Fern tilted her head in understanding. "Eh. Jus' this morning? Then I 'spose you can't be too much to blame for that..." The fae was used to being a bit above and beyond everyone she'd met so far, more often than not in a literal sense. Fern jumped a bit and got her wings going like a hummingbird so that she could navigate her way in front of his face. She was smiling in a genuine fashion, with no mischief brewing at all. This was rare for her, but perhaps it was only because she was trying so very hard to be nice to him. After all, she could spin circles about him and laugh herself silly if she tried. "If ye think, though, that I'm odd? You might have a wee bit o' trouble with the others. An' watch what ye say!" Fern tapped his nose once for emphasis. "There are beings here that wouldn't take kindly to that talk. 'specially the vampires."

"I-I'm sorry," He said. He tried to say something else, but he couldn't think of the words to say it. However, he grew more and more aware of the fact that she wasn't going to try and bite his head off if he just... Calmed down, and stopped considering everyone here to be like everyone he had met before Grove. Besides, she was a fae, and whatever those were, they weren't... They probably weren't...
... And, from what he could tell, she was much more friendlier than a normal human being. She was more... open.
He got up -taking a mental note that she was also the smallest person he had met so far- and, after covering his sneeze with his elbow, introduced himself.
"My name is Len," He said as calmly as possible. "What is your name?"

Fern acknowledged his apology with a nod of her head, then suddenly with a dramatic twist of her body, shone a great light. It only lasted for a second, but when it had faded, a human-sized Fern was standing right in front of him. She looked no different than when she had been flying, though more of her could be made out now that she was bigger. "I'm Fern Everlasting!" she said, taking his hand in a good shake. Her hand was incredibly light, but still held a strength behind it, as did her voice. She looked up to Len's face, as she was seven inches shorter than he was, but it had never discouraged her to be so small. Size was just a minor detail to a fae. "It's a great pleasure to meet you, Len!"

He flinched at the flash of light, panicking a bit because he hadn't a clue about just what was going on. The sudden growth in height, however, was like something one read in picture book, and rather than being scared, he was amazed by it. Part of him wanted to ask her to do it again- the other was just plain embarrassed at the suggestion. After all, she wasn't a magician, and probably would like doing the same thing... about a dozen times, give or take.
Handshake aside (he was secretly grateful that he use his elbow and not his hand), he collected his thoughts, and asked the first question that he knew was pretty safe to ask, at the very least, and simple.
"Why are you here in the library? ...Were you looking for a book?"

Fern enjoyed watching his eyes grow wide. She swore she could almost hear the wheels turning in his head as he processed everything that was going on, but he was beginning to take these things with a bit of grace. Everyone at Grove, in some way, grew used to beings such as fae or vampires at some point. The wonder never truly left them, but it became less shocking.
To his question, Fern gave a light laugh, and kept her smile. "No. This is a nice little place to have a bit o' quiet time, or when ye just want to watch people. Sometimes playin' in the dust is fun, but all in all, I just like the atmosphere." Mischief was really what she liked, though she hadn't lied to him. Fern bounced on her heels a bit before asking her own list of questions. "What about you? Did ye come here to find a book? Or were ye just scared of a new place an' wanted a bit o' time alone?"
