Some days had passed now since Angelina had witnessed horrors no wolf should have to witness at any point in there lives let along at her tender age. She was still finding it hard to deal with the reality that her whole family was now dead leaving her orphaned. She would still find tears forming in her eyes, even at moments when she wasn't thinking upon her situation. She did not want to sit down and think everything through and so she buried her pains, for when she was older and she could, perhaps, handle coming to terms with it all.
She buried her emotions by trying desperately to focus on the good things. That Alas seemed to spend a lot her spare time with her, caring for her and loving her like a second mother, the attention seemed to fill the hole where her own mother once was, but not truly. Frey was another good thing, he had rescued her and taken her to his pack, offering her safety and protection.
She had awoke this morning, with Frey at her back, as usual she had slept with her back to his belly for a feeling of security and warmth. She sensed something between Frey and Alas when they were together, like the female thought it out of character for him to care so much for another, she wondered if Frey preferred his own company, though she did not know and felt she should not ask. She knew her disability was a hindrance and she did not want to be a burden for him, not after he had already given her so much.
Rising she walked slowly out of the den and with all her other senses at work she went for a walk, trying to given Frey the opportunity to have some time of his own. Because she was blind all her other senses had in turn grown stronger to replace her sight, though of course she still faced many problems.
It was early autumn and the leaves were starting to turn, soon the forest would be on fire with colour. She could not see this though, instead her nostrils were filled with the pleasant musky scent of leaf litter and the morning chill in the air, common at this time of year, refreshed her. Upon coming to clearing her sense of smell was presented with another pleasurable smell, that of tiny autumnal flowers.
The peachy toned pup smiled, and she hasten forwards into the clearing. In the centre of the clearing she sat down and revelled in the smells and sounds. She listened to the birds calling, the rustle of drying leaves as the light autumn breeze rippled through the branches. Some time passed and she enjoyed the escapism, then suddenly, the sound of branch cracking underweight filled her ears.

Hira was a young lynx this had been her first year to mate and had given birth to two cubs which she had adored, having always had a motherly nature. Tragically she had failed to defend them when a rival male to their biological father had come across the small family unit and had attacked and killed both her pups. Heart broken Hira had mourned her pups, perhaps slightly longer than she should of done and then moved on.
Now she was stalking the edge of a clearing, hoping that there were rabbit warrens in this area and they would be out in the clearing basking in the warm autumn sun. As she came up on the north side of the clearing, now down wind of it she got only the scent of a wolf. Hira paused and peered out into the clearing, and sat in the centre she could just about make out a pale pup in the wild grasses and tiny autumnal blooms. Curious Hira watched the wolf, she did not seem to be doing anything and Hira couldn’t scent any other wolves in the area, she wondered why this pup was so alone.
Boldly Hira broke the tree line and cautiously crept out into the clearing. The pup was smaller than herself, though she did not want to take any chances, she did not know the temperament of the female wolf.

Angelina had caught scent of the lynx a long while ago and had kept note of her as she had circled the clearing. She had never smelt nor met such a creature before and it mystified her. The scent was beginning to become concentrated and after a time her ears pricked to the soft hissing sound of parting long wild grasses, which where now drying and dying out, the lynx was advancing on her.
Rising and turning Angelina met the lynx head on; pearly white eyes framed by delicate sky blue markings stared out towards where she presumed the lynx to be. Angelina did not know what this creature usually preyed upon but all her senses told her it was slightly larger than herself and she cautiously took a step backwards as the lynx advanced.

Hira advanced upon the wolf pup but as she did the pup backed away and upon looking closely at the pup, trying to catch her stare, she noticed the pup was blind. Hira stopped her advance and watched as the pup stood, slightly curious in expression as she seemed to be wondering as to why she was not advancing anymore. Hira’s heart nearly exploded in sorrow, the pup was blind and totally alone and having not long after losing her own cubs she wondered as to why her parents would leave her so carelessly unprotected. For she would of given anything to have her cubs pack to care for.
Her brow furrowed and she announced herself, her voice soft and gentle. ‘Hello there, I mean you no harm.’ She watched as the pup tilted her head, trying to pick up her voice with her ears. Hira edged closer, slowly as not to scare her again. ‘Where are your parents?’
Angelina stopped her retreat; whatever creature had been advancing on her had now stopped, almost as if it was considering something, hesitant. After a moment, she caught words upon the air. Announcing its intentions where harmless she calmed her nerves and upon the question she smiled sadly. ‘My parents have passed on from this world, I am alone.’ She did not know if telling the other this was a good idea, but it had said it meant her no harm and being young still meant she was naïve and trustworthy.
Again Hira felt her heart leap as she wanted to charge forwards and cuddle into the pup, offering her sympathies to a situation that was not much different to her own, if only reversed in roles. Her voice dripped with emotion and she offered her aid, ‘Are you alright, can I help you?’

Due to Angelina’s lack of sight her other senses had heightened to accommodate for this and thus she was able to pick up on the emotion that stirred in the other creatures voice and in that moment all fear of the other evaporated as she released there was no possible attack going to come from it. She smiled softly and replied to the caring creature, ‘I’m fine thank you, I’ve just come out here to get away from the pack that’s taken me in, I feel I can be such a burden sometimes, though I try my hardest not to be but it’s not always that easy.’ She stepped towards where she presumed the other creature to now be standing and she tilted her head to one side curiously and she carefully probed with an inquiring question, ‘I hope I don’t offend but what are you? You don’t smell like any other creature I’ve met before.’ Angelina was still at a tender age, though life had meant she had to mature quicker than most pups her age still was still lacking in life experience.
Hira’s heart was still at bursting point, she wondered if the adorable little pup knew how pretty she was with the blossom coloured flushes just below her eyes and the sky blue markings in her legs and framing those milky white eyes. How could such a blessed pup ever be a burden, the lone mother edged forwards just two foot away from the young wolf pup and she answered, ‘I am a lynx, I am carnivorous just like you. I will not get any bigger than a teenaged wolf. You’re welcome to touch me if it helps.’ She wondered how the pup learnt to grasp what other creatures looked like, if other wolves allowed her to feel prey once caught so she could identify them, if she’d ever be able to hunt. Blindness was a condition a lone animal simply could not survive with.
Angelina smiled and her tail wagged gently behind her brushing the autumn leaves. 'A lynx.' She had never heard of such a creature and had no idea what one looked like and at the offer of being able to closely inspect her by touch Angelina's smile beamed across her face, 'You don't mind?'
'No of course not.' Hira responsed.
Angelina edged even closer and she could feel the warm breath of the Lynx upon her nose, she leant in and nuzzled her nose into the fur about the large cats neck and began to trace out the shoulder and bone structure of the creature building an image in her head.
Hira chuckled, the peach coloured female was so soft and gentle in her curiosity fuelled nuzzling and touching of herself that she often tickled her in delicate areas where her coat was a little thinner but she did not mind and she said still. 'My name is Hira.' She informed the pup warmly.

Frey was in a panic! A total panic! He had risen early...though he disliked being up so early, and headed off to catch a rabbit for Angelina. Yet when he returned to the den his mother told him she was gone. GONE! Where? Alas had smiled and reassured him Angelina was a capable young pup, the pack was well protected and no doubt Dimitri or Cupid or Twix were somewhere quietly watching her.
Well that just wasn't good enough! What was a squirrel or a fox going to do if some vicious wolf tore out of the woods? What if Agua Azul sent their evil lynxes to capture another of their packmates! Angelina was defenseless out there and he informed his mother as much before tearing out in search of her.
"Angelina!" He called out and finally had the good sense to shove his nose down and catch her scent. She couldn't be too far after all...she was small still...and helpless...He growled and quickened his pace.

Angelina neared the end of her physical observation of the Lynx, the creature was a little bigger than herself though somewhat smaller than her mother or Frey. She had a short stout sort of body with longer legs than she'd known on any wolf in relation to their body size. Her coat was thick and the fur a lot more dense that she was use to but was still soft and very well kept. Her facial features caused her to smile as she ran her cold moist nose over her, her muzzle was much shorter and compact that a wolves and her whispers far longer. She had tickley tufts of hair on top of her ears and long bushy amounts of fur about her checks and lower jaw. Her tail was short and almost bobish and her paws much more larger and padded than any wolves but all in all not totally foreign to her.
She pulled back from the female lynx and then smiled before lunging at her and nuzzling into her neck and she chirped happily in her tufted ears, 'We can be friends, no?'
Hira smiled back at the small wolf pup after she finished her extension examination of her but as the pup lunged at her she froze, not expecting it but soon her muscles eased and she wrapped her head about the neck of the pup and cooed softly back, 'Of course we can, I'd like that.'
The wolf pup had lost her mother and the Lynx had lost her kitten's and together they had found a little something to fill each other's holes.

Frey leapt then and skidded to a halt as he saw Angelina and...a lynx! It was like somekind of strange nightmare come to reality. He crouched low a growl rumbling from his throat though he was normally so easygoing. He wasn't going to let some lynx hurt or capture Angelina, she was...special, she was really a part of their pack, one of their own.
"Get away from her lynx!" He snarled and slowly advanced fangs bared ready to attack. Where was Twix when he actually needed her, no doubt she was closer to the border of Agua Azul on her usual patrol, hopefully if the lynx tried to run back there Twix would head her off.

Hira's moment of bliss was soon interrupted when a large blue wolf skidded into the clearing snarling and baring her fangs at her, instinctively she wrapped her head from about Angelina's neck and leapt forward to meet the wolf. The hair on the scruff of her neck stood on end as well as every strand that covered her spine right down to her bristling tail, her large padded paws were flared over the ground and her back was arched to increase her height and she hissed venomously back at the wolf. She would of normally back down from a large adult wolf but it had only been recently that she had lost her kitten's and now with this tender pup behind her she was not willing to lose her too thus she stood her ground.
Angelina could only stare on with milky white eyes, the voice of Frey snarling at her newly formed acquaintance and friend. Her eyes twitched in all directions and her nose sniffled, trying disparately to gain knowledge of what was going on from the senses that were at her disposal. She did not like the sound of Frey snarling and Hira hissing, she feared someone was going to be hurt and that was that last thing she wanted, to much blood had already been shed during her young life and she did not want to witness any more. She cried out disparately, leaping from her seated position behind Hira and ran towards the sound of Frey's snarling, 'Stop this!' her voice wasn't angry but one that was terribly upset, her eyes glazed in a manner which suggested tears, 'Frey, this is my friend!' she declared desperately trying to calm the situation.

He snarled as the lynx hissed and tried to think of how to get it away from Angelina, then he heard her shout to stop. His snarling cut off and his eyes slowly moved off the lynx to scan over the pup. Stupid, Twix would have said to take your eyes off your enemy, but Frey couldn't help it, he had to be sure Angelina was alright. His insides unclenched as he saw her, she looked upset but unharmed.
Friend? He wasn't so sure yet, after all the lynx could have been lying in an effort to lure Angelina off. Agua Azul was known for their relations with the lynxes of the area. Tempeste had almost been killed by one of them after all. "Angelina...please come here..." His voice was a low desperate please now and he moved so that the bell he wore jingled softly alerting her of his position. Slowly his posture straightened out of the dangerous crouch as he eyes the lynx. "What's your business here feline?"

Hira lowered her back into a more neutral position, losing the shape of a harsh arch, but her fur still remained bristled keeping the illusion that she was larger that she truly was. She heard Angelina ruffle around behind her and she wanted to turn to check on her but she feared removing her focus from the adult male wolf, though the ruffling soon escalated into the peach pink pup darting past her towards the wolf she named Frey. Her eyes quickly darted to her and then back to the male, Angelina seemed upset more than anything and though she wanted to ease the distress of the blind pup she feared the aggressively defence wolf. Even as Angelina returned to him with no protect from herself he still seemed to hold an aggressive tone to his voice demanding of her a reason for her presence, she hissed the first few words, 'Bit late to be so defensive now, where were you for her some moments ago?' her eyes narrowed and she demanded an answer.
Angelina dashed over to Frey, lured by the sound of the small music bell. She suddenly felt a wave of his body warmth and she stopped in her forwards motion not wanting to bump straight into him. She heard Hira question Frey's competency and she dipped to the ground slightly, her ears floppy over, she knew she was to blame, not Frey, she was the one that had crept off so early this morning, she turned and lent up against Frey's forleg reassuring him of her present before she answered Hira's question for him, 'It was not his fault Hira, I left before he was awake.'
Hira stared hard at the blue male and then looked down at Angelina, her eyes softening though turning flinty again when she looked back up at Frey. 'That is no excuse.' She stated simply staring at him her eyes speaking of more, 'you need to take more responsibility.' they said. She knew young were curious, even blinded, parents slept little, that was the way of things.

"It's alright Angelina, it's not your fault...I should have kept an eye on you." He pulled the pup closer and nuzzled her his eyes still moving to stay on the lynx. The words had hurt, he knew he shouldn't have let the pup out of his sight. He had awoken and realized she was gone and instantly he had been panicked. What if this lynx had been evil, what if it had taken Angelina away or hurt her? Could he ever endure knowing his negligence had left an innocent to suffer?
"No it's no excuse, but I'll be far more vigilante from now on." He murmured softly and sighed his eyes moving back down and over the small pale pup. She was so fragile looking, yet he knew just how strong she was already she had endured so much. "Your alright?" He asked again trying to reassure himself.

Hira's coat flattened and her stance heightened as she came out of a less threatening position the male wolf seemed to realise the error, his words were soft and also apologetic that Hira forgave him, almost. Hira took in the scene in front of her, the bond between the two wolves was clearly a strong one, whatever had pasted between them was something that would always keep them connected, that if nothing else was clear to her. The scene seemed almost intimate and Hira began to miss the scent of her cubs, their warmth and soft muzzling, she brushed the thought aside and offered a service to the pair in front of her, 'I promised Angelina that we'd be friends, I shall watch over her as a friend should if that helps you carry on about your business.' Hira was not a wolf, nor a pack animal but she knew living with others must come with a certain amount of responsibility.
Angelina felt Frey's foreleg lean away slightly as he twisted down toward her, nuzzling her comfortingly, she knew then that he was drawing as much security from the gesture as she was and she emitted a soft growl of contentment, confirming the fact she was indeed okay. He pulled away from her then, she sighed softly also regretfully, she could nuzzle anyone but most of all Frey for hours. He confirmed with Hira that he'd look after her more carefully now and a beaming smile blossomed across her maw, Frey was her knight in shiny armour. She looked up at him, her milky white eyes searching though of course they never focused upon anything though before she could encourage Frey back into another tender nuzzle Hira proclaimed that she'd stick around and look after her as well.
Angelina, after having lost her entire family, still felt a warm glow that life could be this giving after taking so much from her. She bounced from paw to paw excitedly and blurted out, 'Oh yes! Hira you promised didn't you, we'd be friends.' She chirped up at Frey then, 'Then you can sleep as long as you like!'

Frey looked at Angelina guiltily, the lynx was kind to offer but foisting off his duties on her seemed wrong. He had found Angelina and he ought to be responsible for taking care of her after all. He had shirked so many other duties in favor of the more carefree path, he had allowed his sister to take position as Alpha, and he had no desire to become lead hunter. Anelina was different though, she wasn't a chore or a duty, she was special to him.
He was about to decline until he saw it, there was a look in the lynx's eyes as if she had once lost something precious too. She looked...maternal and Angelina needed that she needed love and guidance. Sure his mother had offered that, but perhaps this lynx needed Angelina too.
"I'm sorry...what did you say your name was? I'm Frey...and...if you'd really like you're welcome to join our pack, we welcome all who would be as kind as you have been to Angelina." He looked down at the pup and then back to the lynx.
