The night was long and one of almost no light, the moon didn't shine this night, this was a night of darkness... pure darkness. Kinael's eyes narrowed as a cold breath was driven from his mouth. The seasons were changing, it was turning to a cold winter, he could feel it in the crisp air, however, even for this time of year it was growing bitter rather quickly and he had his suspicions why. She was here, he knew she was. Only she, only the Maiden of Darkness could betray the weather so. He had felt her presence for days, stalking him... he knew her scent anywhere, she could not fool such an old wolf.

"Come out, I know you're there Arei! Your tricks can't fool me, you may be able to change your appearance but you can't change your scent!" He lifted a paw to touch his nose indicating exactly what he meant, and then he waited. She would reveal herself in time, he knew Arei far too well...

The darkness in the far corner, near a douglas fur, began to shift, it buckled and finally washed away to slightly reveal a pattern of stars, being the only thing to give away her position until her eyes flashed a quick yellow as if light reflecting off a cat's pupils. She smirked, drawing herself closer to the male, "So... it is you. You never cease to amaze me Kinael, but that nose of yours has gotten you in trouble many times." She eyed him carefully, stepping closer to look into his eyes, so many things had changed and yet at this moment all the old thoughts she had of him had quickly bubbled back up in her stomach. He looked... more regal somehow. Even now, now when his dragon heritage had been stripped from him, when all that was left of it was a tattoo on his arm. He seemed... stronger somehow, and that slightly scared her.

"No more trouble than you've been in." He stated, smirking slightly as his tail flicked across the ground. He watched Arei, noting the strange changes that had happened to her. His head raised and his eyes finally locked on hers, "A lot has changed, if you're here... than I suppose my cousin's plan worked?" His head tilted to one side in question.

Her eyes motioned to note him for a moment and to consider his question. She gave a toss of her head indicating neither a no nor yes. "It depends on the way you look at it." Her deep voice stated. "For your win, I suppose a yes, for mine on the other hand.." She let out a soft growl, her eyes veering off toward the moon even though it had been completely betrayed by the clouds that covered it. "It has been a rather long time Kinael... and many things have changed, for both of us it seems."

"Well, that was cryptic." Came his retort. "You know what my question was." His tail flicked, the bristles seeming fuller to indicate the panther inside of him.

Arei immediately mused, trying to hide the fury that was building inside at his nonchalant attitude. "I suppose you could say it has." The voice came through gritted teeth. "More Linaith's plan, he has tried to make me his little lacky, binding me in more spells than a mage." She snorted, "You can bet that hasn't made me happy. I'm more on speaking terms with Marek than him."

"Marek... I suppose my cousin has earned more nicknames." He sighed. It had been much too long since he had seen Mishaelion. His eyes moved up toward the shadow female. "So you are apart of the Galuruh's world now... I suppose I should apologize." Even though he said these words he kept his distance from her, unsure of how to address any of what had happened in their past.

"Was." She immediately corrected, her dark blue eyes deepening in color at the thought. In this little banter the two of them had still completely kept their distance from one another. This saddened Arei greatly but she would say no word of it to Kinael, he had changed.. and in this change he had grown ever so tormented. She hated to think that she could have been the one whom had caused such grief. "I left, Kinael. I'm tired. I'm tired of being what my grandfather wants me to be. I'm tired of being what they want me to be. If I am to be punished for my independence than so let it be. I would rather be my own person than to be on either side."

At the sincere sound in her voice Kinael started. His eyes widened as he gazed upon her. "You've taken your own path into your own paws... finally." His eyes darted away from her but he slightly held a smug expression upon his face. "I'm happy for you Arei. I know it must have been difficult. I know for a fact it was difficult." He mused when thinking upon his own folly, everyone he had let down when he had chosen his own way. "What has this path brought you, My Old Friend?" He used the term loosely though it was completely true. Even in their old rivalry they had gained an almost unbreakable friendship, at least back then.

"Grief." Came a harsh laugh from her lips. "Utter pain and grief." Her tail flicked as the blue orbs she owned veered off toward the starlit sky. "I lost everyone I held dear, except your cousin. I feel... completely alone now." The voice that came from her throat cracked as if she was telling her best friend of her problems, but he was no longer her best friend, he was a stranger now, just as she had become a stranger to him. "I know not which way to go. To give in to my grandfather's darkness or to listen to my mother's innocence. An innocence I fear I will never have again. Those days are long gone.. I feel as if... I feel as if I have failed everyone, my family," To which the statement came out as irony, "Linaith and the Galurah, your people... and even... you... and Te'ssara.." She grimaced at the last bit of her statement and bit her lip. She waited for Kinael to scold her, to carry some sort of hate for what had happened between her and Te'ssara. She deserved it.

A certain amount of pain did wash through Kinael at the thought of his sister. The distance in his eyes grew for a long moment, holding the silence between them for much longer than Arei would have liked, "Its the past, Arei." He said at long last. "What your grandfather made you for, is the past. What happened in Henion... is the past." A deep swallow forced its way down his throat. He wouldn't.. couldn't admit that what she had done still hurt. He would be a man and put all that aside, even if it had put a major dent in his relationship with both women. Besides... Arei hadn't known how he had felt about her, that was his own damned fault. He should have told her long before but he was a wimp and kept putting it off... while Te'ssara.. Te'ssara had been brave in telling her. He was the idiot.

"Arei... listen to me. No matter what you grandfather created you to be, or bring... you do have your mother's blood inside of you. Some part of you will... and will always be good. Listen to that part of you." His eyes moved up to lock onto hers. "I know you know it. If you weren't there is no way that you could be standing here right now. I know Mishaelion... he would never befriend anyone who could be as evil as Ellasanir."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:45 pm

Tears began to brim her eyes as she heard her grandfather's name.. Ellasanir... the evil son of a b***h whom created her to bring darkness and chaos to the world... the lion whom could scarcely be called her grandfather. She turned her head, emotions welling up in her that she hadn't felt in years. Had Kinael forgiven her? Truly forgiven her for everything she had done to him and his family? "I'm sorry Kinael... I'm so very sorry... I'm sorry that you got caught up in my world... in Henion... I'm sorry you lost yourself because of me..."

For once Kinael actually felt sorry for her. He had never seen her like this, he had never seen Arei once show any sign of weakness, "She's grown... a lot." He stated to himself with only a faint smile. In a way it was sad to see, but in another he realized that she had finally let a part of herself become truly lion (human), that some part of her actually cared for those around her. It was a painstaking true, but one that her grandfather would have loathed to see.

"Arei.." He stepped forward and in his compassion he let his paw softly touch her shoulder. His black eyes watched her. "..You will always be my friend, no matter how much has changed between us." After his statement he dared to step even closer, wrapping his paws around her as she began to cry.
