Almost every skill is free, just people buy the items instead of getting the stuff themselves.

Firemaking to me, is quite pointless on day to day basis.

Now, if they had sailing *which i don't want* but if you can have ship battles. Imagine using firemaking skill to light the fuse to the cannons

Also for cws light up logs and launch them in catapults.

or if you can light up buckets of tar on fire and throw them at your enemies. That would be funny.

Maybe these will not be daily but firemaking is a skill that should be used from time to time.

Firemaking is/can be free.
Firemaking is needed for certain quests because a ******** lantern with
a gem in it is so ******** hard to light.
The Adze is kinda cool.
I hear total XP is a nice thing to have.

And I agree with Air.
No skill in Runescape will ever be usefull to you.
Unless maybe you're playing a ******** up game of DnD.

As far as skills go i don't see it as having much of a use at 99, besides having a cape. The axe would be nice but you don't need to max out for it.

And just for maths...

45 to 99 Firemaking is 96,096 Maple Logs. At 1,200 Logs Burned an hour (although up to 1,350 is possible) it would take 74 hours to obtain 99 Firemaking. This costs 2,882,880 gold as of 1:33 pm EST, October 19th, 2009.

Firemaking should be a skill that we're able to aide someone with - even for quests. Scratch that - why aide? Why can't we just trade a lit lantern to someone?

I can see in quests like the pirate one, where you're lighting cannons and sending the enemy ship to the sea floor below where it could be a requirement. But like Lizzy said - it's not THAT hard to light a lantern with a gem inside it. -rolls eyes-

-shrug- 99 is useful, yet useless at the same time. As so many have said - it really does cost nothing at all. It's useful for overall experience.

And since Hampy figured out the no-lifing experience, someone really could have 99 firemaking in less than a week (taking into consideration their want to eat, sleep, and take care of personal hygiene).

Is the time spent worth the experience? I'm not so sure; but it does help out with the total overall level and experience of your character. You just have to survive the experience long enough to enjoy yourself afterwards.

Man 1-up'd, oddly my character never figured that fire strike would set logs on fire just yet.
