A gentle breeze blew across the short cropped grass, carrying with it a voice. High and sweet, the voice sang a wordless tune and was accompanied by a mellow thrum that complimented it. The two wove together to make a two part symphony that made it's way across the the hills.
The source of the music soon topped hill that would afford anyone a view of Rias weyr after several hours of up and down travel. This source was in fact a young woman on the back of a black runner beast that made it's way up the hill at an easy pace. It's rider sang to herself and played a strange stringed instument of her own devising. The wind blew long, blue-black hair away from the womans face. The sight of the weyr caused her to cease her melody. It was truly lovely with the sun high above it, glinting off the high stone reaches, brilliant dragons sunning along it's walls and in the air high above it.
"Oh wow..." the woman murmured to herself in appreciation of the beautiful sight. She leaned forward in her saddle and rested one elbow on the pommel and put her chin in her hand as her mount drew to a stop. Rider and mount stood there and admired their first view of Rias weyr. Well, the rider did, the mount seemed more concerned with the surrounding vegetation and how edible it was.

The paths which lead down from Rias, towards the more common of the holdings and small farms was a rocky one. Even though countless visitors took their toll on the sharp and graveled rocks which lined the pathways; the constant overgrowth of the Southern Continent and shifting rocks always made it seem much harder on the feet then it should be. It was good that a soft breeze was blowing, bringing in with it the mixture of orange and sea salt scents into the air, or this undesirably common occasion would have put the woman in a much more bitter and brooding mood then she typically was.

Farin continued her pace however, her arms crossed brutally over her chest and dark brown brow furrowed sharply in the center. She was in the middle of one of her much anticipated broods, as now the hatching festivities had concluded and it was time to get down to Weyrling business. There was simply so much to do, that she felt that it'd be better to escape the Weyr for the larger portion of the day to try and sort out some of these conflicting entities. Or rather- it had been Moth's opinion that she go for a walk. Farin's usual behavior was more to hanging around her new Weyr and skulking.

She was a tall woman, sliding just a bit near six feet. Pale thick waves of curly blonde hair slid over her broad shoulders, and in the bight light her dark skin seemed all the darker as she crossed the bright patches of green. It was a welcome change from the bone-white stones which lined the last mile from Weyr, and downhill towards the valley. Against her shoulders hung a fine leather jacket, although it was not worn through the arms. The vacant armholes swung lazily as she moved, perhaps a bit dejected as they failed to fulfill their life's purpose. She was unused to such a fine jacket- a considerable gift, for her more recent promotion.

Farin flinched, catching the sounds of music in the distance. She wasn't particularly pleased with company amongst her brooding walk, although she supposed it was to be expected with all the traders still hanging around from the festivities. From somewhere within the jacket a tiny pale white-gold head slid out, and flicked it's tongue. The music was intriguing, but not intriguing enough to keep the sickly Vera very interested for long. She snorted and snuggled herself back up the empty armhole, to continue her lazy slumber. Fleckin seemed presently aloof- although the woman knew better then to doubt the fellow was not within ear shot.

She paused for a moment, and uncrossed her arms. Who moved outside Rias this day? It was most intolerable.

Chaeren continued on foot from the top of the hill, finding that the ground was treacherous for a runner beast, and considering the fact that the animal was a loan, she figured it best to walk. After dismounting, she checked on the four sand filled pots that hung from the beasts back just behind the saddle. They were still warm to the touch, which was good news as it meant that they could probably last until she reached the weyr before they needed to be re-warmed. Should the pots go cold, the small firelizard eggs that they contained would die and fail to hatch.
She took the runners reigns and flipped her gitar (at least that's what she called it as it was a mix of a guitar and a citar) around on it's strap so that it hung from her back as she walked, watching the ground every so often for rocks lest she or the beast stumble.
CHaeren admired the lush surroundings, the sounds of the birds singing, and various small animals going about their business. The forest had a melody of it's own that could be admired by anyone who cared to listen. Chaeren was jolted from her reverie by the sounds of someone coming down the path towards her. She slowed her pace slightly as she rounded a bend in the path, and her eyes met with those of a woman. Said woman was walking towards her in a fine leather jacket, letting it's sleeves trail out behind her. She was just about the opposite of Chaeren in looks as the harper had dark hair and fair skin, where as this woman was blonde and tan. This most likely came from staying so long in the southern continent.
As she came closer to the woman Chaeren spoke.
"Excuse me, but would you happen to know how much farther up along the path Rias weyr is?" the journeywoman harper asked, grey eyes searching to meet the womans. Surely she must have only just come from there, for she had the look of a rider about her.

A set of pale brown eyes flicked upwards, as the manned rider slowly rounded the corner of the bend. She had a feeling this would end in conversation, which vaguely brought despairing feelings through the woman's form. Perhaps sensing the displeasure in his Woman's mind set, a long bronze flit appeared from the nearby shrubs, and took a quick circle around the other woman and runner before skittering off, looping, and touching down carefully upon the shoulder of the jacket. From somewhere inside the jacket, Vera voiced her displeasure at being sat upon. Fleckin merely chattered a funny bark, flicking the end of his tail and watching the movements of the peculiar creature.

"Rias?" The woman spoke sternly, her eyes sliding from the girl momentarily, and at an orange grove in the distance. "A bit hard to miss." She remarked, and shifted her hips, motioning her head in the direction of the path she had come from, which would quickly lead towards the inclined stone ramp, designated mostly for runners and cart passage. "This path only goes one place." She said with the wave of her hand. "If you keep going that way, you won't end up in any place but Rias."

Finally freeing herself from Fleckin, Vera poked her head out from beneath the jacket. The little queen shoved her way out with a hiss and a grunt. She made movements to exact her revenge upon her less then companionable mate, when a Farin's dark hand slipped between the two, collected the creature, and pulled her down to her other shoulder.

From some sunny ridge back north, Farin felt a flickering of consciousness pass across her mind. Moth was awakening from her slumber, with all her rider's brooding. She felt a bit guilty for it, and unconsciously bit her lip.

However- if Moth had awaken, she didn't make it known to Farin yet and kept quiet. But the older rider could feel something poking around her thoughts, sliding and pondering them over to themselves. She'd perhaps been thinking too hard on whether or not the green was indeed fluttering around in her mind, for a moment later she got a response-

Yes, Love? Came the soft voice of the green, although once spoken it faded with some amount of action on the dragon's half.

Farin shook her head, and quietly to herself dismissed the green's questioning.

"Ah, thank you." Chaeren said, not letting the womans brooding manner get to her. Clearly she had something on her mind, as was prone to happen to everyone.
When the tan woman's firelizards began chattering at each other, the harper smiled, stifling a laugh at their less than companionable manner. Aside from puting a hand between them and then shifting the gold queen to her other shoulder, Farin didn't seem to notice. Rather, she got a faraway lookin in her eye that was common among dragonriders when they were talking with their dragons.
Chaeren smiled warmly at Farin, trying to appeal to her better side as she said "So I was right, you are a dragon rider."
The female harpers right hand went up to her face and brushed some of her long black hair back out of it. The blue hat she wore helped keep the sun from her eyes, and kept the bulk of her mildly curly hair under control, but the shorter strands still tended to drift in to cover her eyes. She was dressed in an unusually warm manner, with her hat, vest, long full sleeves accompanied by another long sleeve shirt under that. Not to mention the fact that she wore both a skirt and a pair of long full pants and a pair of calf high boots. A breeze stirred her many layers of clothing as she stood there and waited for the rider to reply.

Farin shifted, her pale eyes squinting forward as she looked over the runner beast and rider. "How clever." She spoke stiffly, and making slight note to her rider's knot at the corner of her jacket. It was a new one now- one which remarked her new, and rather strange promotion. "I am Moth's rider Farin- Weyrlingmaster to Rias."

Fleckin shifted his head, noticing that Farin was addressing this woman instead of paying attention to him. He snorted, and took alight, making a careful circle around the rider. He landed with a squawk on top of one of the hanging knapsacks, and began to slightly poke at it with his nose. What was in there? In disgust, Vera turned her pale white head away, and hid beneath the jacket's rungs.

"A harper?" Farin asked, shifting her hand to the side as she took notice of all the bright and gaudy blue. It was becoming a very common color about the Weyr. "You'll not find yourself alone."

"A pleasure to meet you, Rider Farin." The paler of the two women said before continuing. "My name is Chaeren, journeyman harper. Not so surprising there should be so many, Rias being the newest Weyr and all. It's no wonder so many have come running." She said idly as she watched the firelizard loop around her and land on one of the packs containing an egg. Chaeren smiled a little and opened the lid briefly to show the firelizard the egg within.
"See? Just a flit egg." she said to the flit in an amused voice.
The harper girl reached over and gently stroked the firelizard's small head.
"I might not stay long at the weyr anyways." she said, making idle conversation. "I tend to wander alot. I've yet to find a place i'd like to settle down and stay at for the rest of my days." she said with a wry smile as she stroke the flit.
Chaeren let her hand fall away and then nodded to Farin. "But here I am yammering on and you undoubtedly have other business to attend to. Don't let me keep you from any pressing business you need to attend to, Weyrling master." Chaeren said with a small bow to the rider.

Farin shook her head. Lovely, now she was starting to scare people off before she'd even showed them how bad she really could be. Not that she wanted people scared off at all- but she must be getting progressively more reclusive in these days. That would have to change, acting as Weyrlingmaster.

She nodded respectively, her blonde hair sliding across her shoulders. "I am to no business at the moment to be distracted from." She suddenly flicked her wrist outwards, and the bronze flit who had been reaching in the sack to grab at the egg (as if stealing Vera's egg hadn't taught him a lesson), peeped and leapt. He swayed in the air, landed with a flash of prickling claws, and climbed up Farin's arm. He curled himself at her shoulder and swept his serpentine head forward, flicking his tongue. Otherwise, Farin showed no attention to him.

"There are many visiting harpers currently in the Weyr." Farin spoke. "Most of them coming from Rias hold. Although I'm sure you already know that." She muttered, reminding herself it was only news to her that a Harper Hall had recently been established there.
