Ah....sun, sand, and surf. The three things Ekun missed in combination when she was out in the rogue lands. There was plenty of sun...but no sand, and no surf. It had made her sad. She certainly liked traveling...but she would ALWAYS be drawn back here, back home. Home...strange to think she'd not had one as a young cub. But now, she had one, and she had cubs of her own, and a loving mate, and new 'siblings', and new friends. Speaking of...Kam had said her cubs had become fully grown! Ekun HAD to see this! When she'd left on her First Seeking...the three had been tiny things! To imagine them full grown was practically impossible for the Little Kifuko! So she'd set out to find one of them. Best to confirm with her own two eyes.

Kanzi couldn’t imagine why her father disliked the water so- she could only find the entertainment in it. Running along the shore, jumping up to avoid getting the tide over her paws, dashing boldly after the receding water as though to dare it to come back and try again, it was all so much fun! Swimming, too, was a great joy to her. Why, then, did her father find it all so miserable? She couldn’t see it. As she sat on the sand, the young adult heaved a heavy sigh. Her home was truly a wonderful one. Though she loved to go exploring just like her father, she imagined she would never roam to far. The future was hers now, but… home was home. It didn’t matter at what age you found it.
Hell, getting it found out early was a blessing. She had heard that her parents had gone on quite a journey to find their home.
Ear perking, Kanzi turned her head, seeing someone approaching. Having no reason to fret, she smiled. “Hi!” she hummed, “it’s a lovely day, isn’t it? Come to watch the water as well?”

Ekun blinked at the young adult that sat before her. "It is indeed!" The girl had very familiar markings...but there was no way this adult was one of Jethro and Kam's! She was...grown up! "It's very good to be home...I missed the sea a great deal." She smiled brightly. "I returned from my first seeking not long ago! Took me far longer than I thought it would. What of you?" She looked old enough to have gone and come home.

“I’ve been home a while, but I think I’m going to head out again soon,” hummed the female brightly, “after I meet with poor Hadaya. He’s upset right now because two of his cubs have gone missing… my dad told me. Poor thing.” She imagined the cubs would be alright. They were young, yes, but young didn’t mean helpless.
Of course, if they were like their father…
“Oh! Totally didn’t introduce myself, did I? I’m Kanzi! You look kinda familiar, do I know you from somewhere?”

Hadaya had cubs?! And...oh no! Missing?! Ekun's expression fell. "He's got it bad enough already...the gods really have it in for him, don't they?" She sighed. Poor Hadaya...life seemed to hate him at every turn. "I hope they're okay, and found..." The thought of cubs out there...alone...It made Ekun all the happier she had Usiku to help her, and that her cubs weren't likely to run off after strangers.
Ekun nearly choked on the air she took in. Kanzi?! Oh...oh dear. Ekun chuckled. "I feel...a bit old now. Last time I was in the pride, you were...just a cub!" She smiled nervously. "I'm Ekundayo, one of the Little Kifuko."

“I know, my dad tells me all kinds of things about the poor guy. Not in a mean way, of course. He worries for Hadaya. But I’m sure he’ll be alright.” He had his friends. Her sister was one of them and she was great at making others feel better. “Jethro has been out a couple of times looking, but he hasn’t found any sign of them yet.” They couldn’t only hope for the best.
The subject change was welcome- she enjoyed the strange expression on the older female. Was she surprised.
“Oh really? Well that’s fun! It’s a pleasure to meet you! Are you a friend of my dad’s?” No wonder she didn’t really remember her, if she had only been a cub at the time! "So you just came back from a seeker thing? Where did you go?"

Lost cubs. Ekun was silent a moment, mourning the loss of members of their 'family'. "I hope...they come home safe." Hope...she was repeating that word, it seemed. She chuckled at Kanzi's demeanor change.
"I...suppose you could say that! He taught me how to pounce when I was younger! And when I found out he was your mother's mate...Well, it was a very funny reunion!" Ah...her Seeking. "My sibs and I went to find our biological father. We found him alright! But..." She grinned nervously. "Me and my mate had cubs on the way..." A wonderfully unexpected and grand surprise.

“Yeah,” Kanzi said softly, looking down at the floor herself. It seemed sadder now than it had been before, actually. Which was alarmingly sad, considering how bummed she had been about things before. Hopefully those poor cubs would be found, and they would be better off because of it.
Not hurt, not scared, but wiser and happy to be home.
“Oh my!” She hummed, the happier news just enough to lift her spirits and bring a bright smile back to her face, “cubs? That’s so amazing! I’m sure Jethro would be happy to hear about that! Aww… how lovely. I think I would like to have some cubs some day. Or at least a mate who would know how to treat me right. You’re very lucky!”

Ekun nodded. "Having a mate who loves you for who you are...it's amazing." She smiled wistfully. "Usiku is my best friend, too. We met before the pride was founded, and despite everything, we were able to keep in touch. And now..." She laughed softly. "He's my everything, along with our cubs. I'm not sure life would be quite so bright for me without him. I hope you find someone like that for yourself, Kanzi."

Hope is always a good thing! I don't want to go through life without someone to share my adventures with. I think a mate would be just perfect, but if it's not to happen... I guess I wouldn't be able to complain too much."
She would. She would complain all over the place.
"When you have your cubs, I sure hope to meet them! I bet they'll be absolutely adorable!"

Ekun chuckled. "I'm sure there's someone out there for you." She gave an encouraging smile to the other female. "You're a good girl. And I've...already had them." She looked more than a bit embarrassed. "They weren't exactly planned, and well...I had them during my Seeking. But I made sure to tell them all sorts of stories about here, even before we got near. And now..." She remembered when Pwani'wingu first SAW the sea.
"They adore it."

“Oh!” Kanzi laughed, “well that’s great! I’m happy to hear that you had your cubs. I hope there wasn’t any trouble!” Though there didn’t look to be, since she wasn’t gloomy bringing them up and she seemed as healthy as ever. All good signs, really.
Cubs. Yeesh, that was one way to make her dad feel like on old-timer.
“I guess I should be heading home soon,” she said after a moment, “I know I don’t technically live with my father anymore, but I like to check in to see if there’s anything for me to do.”

The Little Kifuko nodded. "All was well. The normal occasional scare related with cubs wandering a little too far off or climbing something a bit too big for 'em...but otherwise, they're a good bunch. Healthy and happy and cheerful."
Ekun chuckled. "I know the feeling. I still check in with Mama Phy to see if she needs help." She stretched a bit. "It was nice talking with you Kanzi!"
