This too is sacred

Fat: it's a state of being, a physical characteristic, a part of our bodies (and brains!)
Feminism: a movement to produce real equality for people of all genders and sexes, races and abilities, both mental and physical or emotional and spiritual. Real equality, real world equality, not just words on paper that say you can't discriminate against a person. (My own definition) The term 'patriarchy' should be replaced with 'kyriarchy', as kyriarchy is an overarching system of oppression, not just a male dominated and perpetuated one.
Body Acceptance: Attempting to learn how to love and accept our own bodies despite the media, our families, our friends, our doctors and everyone else, telling us not too, that we need to change, or we're gonna DIE.
Self-Ownership: Exactly what it sounds like. Your body is yours to do with as you wish, as you choose. It's a scary thought, for some. Noone but you is responsible for how or what you eat, when, how much, etc. Noone but you is responsible for how often or not you work out/be active/get exersize. Noone but you can say if you'll get a tattoo, peircing, abortion, dye your hair, have sex, climb a mountain or train for a marathon. Your body is YOURS. A gift or a curse?

Nice! A little 101 for newcomers to the scene, I like it.

I was trying to convince my friend that "fat" is just a physical descriptor, the same way you might say someone is tall or has brown hair, with all the attendant lack of judgement. But she wasn't quite there yet - she's fighting with her body right now because it isn't losing weight, or not much weight, even though she plays tons of sports and spends a bit of time worrying about what she's eating. I was trying to convince her that her body is obviously healthy - it's doing all these things she wants it to - and she looks fabulous and clearly her boyfriend of several years thinks she's sexy, so she can't be saying that she's fat-and-that's-bad - if she wants to self-identify as fat, fine, but I wish she wouldn't lay all this judgement on herself for it. Fat doesn't equal lazy, unhealthy, unattractive, sexless, or whatever, and that is obvious in her life and how she lives it, but she's convinced that "fat" is this big insult that she feels bad about self-applying. I wish she wouldn't. But it's not easy to throw off those mental shackles, and it's often easier to do it for other people than for ourselves.
