It was early evening, and the sun was just beginning to set. The western sky was beginning to turn orange, and his dark, star-flecked pelt shimmered the tiniest bit, like stars visible in the bright light of day. His pelt wasn't the only point of fascination. His eyes were glowing silver, his tail as his mother's, and he had a horn perched upon his forehead.
He didn't know who his father was...only that his horn, along with the sprinkle of lilac leaves and the colours in his mane had come from him. They certainly hadn't come from his mother, after all.
He trotted peacefully along a stream in the woods, weaving his way through the trees until he emerged from them. Lifting his head to the west, he eyed the slowly setting sun...and shivered with delight. It was his favourite time of day. The riot of colour in the sky...just before twilight, and the sun still warmed and comforted him. Bowing his head, he trailed his horn through the stream before taking a slow drink. Silently, he mused to himself. His knight training with Claude was going well...and he grew more confident in his skill day by day.
He had plenty of friends, too. He was content. Especially when he could daydream. Saving a pretty, unknown mare from a Kalona~ ...yes, he could dream, indeed.

Muse was tired of Story and her shenanigans. All the time she got looks of why she acted the way she did, when really it was her friend Story that caused such a fuss about things. Either she was jealous or irritated because Muse got all the attention. Honestly though wouldn't you think that would be the reason being Muse was the one they could see? Something just had to be done or otherwise Muse was going to loose what little friends she did have.
As she traveled along in her thoughts Story (who was never far behind) watched her curiously. She was of course the "star" of the two demanding the limelight, a prima donna if you will and this was her stage.
"So what's your problem? All the time you wonder what's wrong and you never say. Ask me you're the problem." she snorted looking at Muse with a toss of her head.
Muse sighed trying to ignore her.
"Helloo Earth to Muse!" she snorted then nudged the purple mare a little hard.
"Ow.... I said don't worry about it."
"No I wanna know.... you don't tell me as if I'm not here. You see me so you know I'm real!"
"Real? I don't know what's real Story. Why can't anyone but I see you! They think I'm crazy Story! I'm not" she sniffled with defiant eyes at the other.
"That's where you're wrong! Cal sees me. He even said Hello! So I'm real!" she grumbled running into Muse yet again.
"Quit it Story!" Muse pushed back harder this time.
Story reared up and literally ran into Muse snorting as she cried, "I am real I am! You're the one they don't see! Its me they do!"
All the while before Muse stumbled onto the ground thanks to Story she had never noticed the other not too far off at the stream. She didn't even realize how loud her voice had been projected either thanks to her friend. Frowning Story lied there miserably not wanting to move. It hurt her fully to know Story was invisible and yet she was as real as the trees standing around them.
Things were just so complicated that poor Muse just didn't know what to do.

In the midst of his daydreaming, he pranced away from the stream, tail whipping through the air as he danced towards his imagined opponent, giving a sharp snort in challenge before lunching forwards, slicing his horn through the air. It started as a stabbing motion, then changed into a sweeping motion to the side, designed to rip and rend through flesh after stabbing...to ensure a greater wound. Shaking his head, he leaped away, mane fluttering, imagining a startled but happy cry from the mare he was intent on saving...
...but wait? What was that?
His ears flicked, as instead, he caught quite the opposite end of the spectrum. Surprise and pain? Abruptly snapping out of his musings, he lifted his head and looked around, eyes changing colour from the silver they'd been when they caught the sun, to a soft orchid colour. Soon enough, he spotted a deep violet Soquili a ways away. Upon the ground. That had to have been where the sound came from. He sprang into a lope, eager to help, and carried himself swiftly across the ground, slowing when he was close enough.
Ears flicking, he tilted his head quizzically at the other on the ground, ears finally pricking forwards.
"...excuse me...are you alright?" He asked, stepping over in front of her, bowing his head. "My name is Danae. Do you need any help?"
The twilight-coloured stallion was slightly wary. There were plenty of normal looking Soquili that could turn vicious...and even though this one didn't look it...one never knew...most times until it was too late. But still, he offered a smile, dipping his head a little further down so his head was level with hers.

Muse was a wreck that she didn't notice the others' approach as she should have. Her "friend' was still deeming that she was the visible one. Muse wanted to scream at the top of her lungs she was the real one. But her visitor really caught her off guard. She'd been caught once again looking like a loony mare. That which her father worried greatly about her sanity and talk of imaginary beings. Well story wasn't a being per say, she was very real like Muse with some interesting attributes about her. Muse wasn't sure really when it came to the description. So naturally others thought she just made up her "friends" instead of making any. Honestly just how sad was it that a little mare couldn't find any real friends. Quite odd indeed in others eyes for Muse to them was more so "strange".
She blinked twice at his approach feeling quite embarrassed for her fore and back legs were upon the ground as were her shoulder and rump. She must look a trifle mess to a new face. All the more reason for being embarrassed as her face turned just about three shades of red.
Looking up at him she had to register if he was real or not. Well her other friend no one could see right? It took her a minute or so to realize he was indeed standing there looking all the more concerned. She looked from him towards the ground and back again swallowing sharply before she answered.
"Um yes I'm fine. I guess I tripped over a rock or something" she said with a small uneasy laugh, "you know those rocks can catch you at the weirdest times, right?" Okay so she told a little lie but this new stallion wasn't one to probably deal with Story. She'd hope he'd be accepting of her flaws, but well she wasn't going to say what they were right away.

Danae kept his head lowered, blinking quizzically at her. She didn't seem to be very hurt, but he supposed instead of a physical hurt, her pride might have taken a blow? Goodness knows, he would hate to be caught upon the ground. But the unicorn offered her a genuine smile.
There was laughter in his eyes as well. Rocks? Giving his head a spirited toss, he snorted and laughed.
"Yes, yes! Rocks are definitely vicious creatures when provoked!" He intoned, giving several emphasizing nods, joyful and serious all at once. "Come, I'll be sure they don't jump out and knock you to the ground again....ahh, miss..? ...may I know your name?"
He seemed content to accept her rather strange attempt at a lie, but he wouldn't be the one to force her to admit she probably tripped over her own four hooves. He was a gentleman, first and foremost. He waited until she was back upon all four of her hooves before pawing at the nearest rock upon the ground.
"Take that~" He muttered good-naturedly, as if the rock could hear and feel the blows. Tilting his head, he peered at her with bright orchid eyes, a smile once again gracing his muzzle. "I think this rock is sufficiently subdued. You'll be safe from him. And I promise if you stick with me for a while, I'll keep the rest of those nasty rocks away, too."
It was all in good fun, and trying to gain a new friend. He paused and stood still a moment, lest his good nature get ahead of him and make her think he was crazy...which was quite ironic, considering she didn't want him to think that way of her.

Muse noticed he was feeling quite awkward right about now as was she. If she had the right notion Story would get it and by that she meant a good push into the claws of those vicious rocks. Mean things were just perfect for Story and her attitude. Without warning Muse began to giggle, a high outward pitch much like a child's innocence. It was intoned with silver causing her sides to hurt. She laughed till she cried hoping she wouldn't scare her companion away.
I'm fits of giggles she breathed her answer, though sometimes it was a bit high pitched, "Muse. My name is Muse.... yeah those rocks are quite dangerous huh?" Her eyes were swelling with tears as they ran crystalline clear down her cheeks. Just watching him brought spirit to her depression more then she could of wished for.
Story on the other hand wasn't amused. Why the hell wasn't Muse being sad and mopey? Why was she laughing and sounding like a bird caught in something?
"Muse you make me ill. I should be the one laughing not you. They should see me... not you. You should be the one that's a menace".
"Danae I don't have very many friends. I may be a little weird" she said trying to to stand up on her own, "but I assure you weirdness has its um positive side."
Okay that was weird. Did she try too hard to gain friends she wondered? Turning to smile at him she hoped being a little "weird" wasn't too scary. Who knows... maybe he'd understand who Story was if he accepted her for who she was.

A gentle smile bloomed on his muzzle as she started to laugh, even when her laughter brought tears to her eyes. He was slightly concerned, but didn't overly show it, swaying to the side on his hooves before pausing there.
"Hey now, I didn't think I was that funny~" He mused with a grin, clearly teasing her gently. Ears flicked forwards a little; clearly, he enjoyed her laughter, even in its higher pitches, and her cracking voice. He was glad to have made her laugh.
But he dipped his head in a nod at her words. "Well, we're all weird, to varying degrees...so I doubt you could make me run off. I'm even a bit weird...so don't you be running off on me, now."
Chuckling, he stood by her side until she was on her feet before tossing his head and taking a lap around her at a trot, inspecting her for any hurts, but also to take a look at her, finally stopping once he was in front of her once more. Lifting his muzzle high, he gestured to the brilliant mark on her forehead.
"You look like you should be a Unicorn with that pretty mark on your forehead, Muse."
Dipping his head, he tilted it, 'showing' her his own horn. ...well, at least he could thank his father for that, even if he didn't know him.
"Were you doing anything before those rocks jumped out at you..? I was, uh, kinda daydreaming, I guess. A bit silly for a Knight to do..." If it were possible, his face darkened further still; somewhat embarrassed to admit to daydreaming, but not terribly so.
Maybe he had dreamed her up? A damsel in distress, needing his assistance..?
Anything was possible, he supposed, but he knew this pretty mare in front of him to be real, and not a figment of his dreams.

Story trotted over as Muse spotted her in the corner of her eye. She literally got in his face inspecting him. Snorting she arched a brow, "Okay yeah this one is different but I don't understand why they find you so incredibly special Muse. I mean you're nothing compared to me. Not by a longshot heh." Spreading her wings she nodded with such a haughty look to intimidate Muse. "You do realize Muse no one will ever be better then me. No one." She opted to bite this horned male but held off. The recent shock of the other male had spooked her.
Muse nibbled on her bottom lip tempted to tell Story to just leave. She wouldn't of course. Why would she when she had poor plain Muse to nudge and make miserable. Oh how she was so irritated with her friend lately. Always saying her new friends were unworthy was downright mean and annoying. So what should she do about the situation? That was simple, ignore her of course.
Rolling her eyes at Story secretly she looked at Danae, "A horn? We'll grandmother and mom have horns. My one brother does as well. I'm told I'm special without one though" she said with smiling eyes that posed a query, "Do you think I'm special Danae?"
Blinking curiously she watched him in awe, "How did you become a knight if I may ask? And I don't see you as weird.. not one bit. I'm more the weird one".
Honestly it was so hard not mentioning the jealous mare watching them with glowing green eyes. Only a certain few thought her not off the deep end, would Danae?

There was something in the air in front of him. For a moment, Danae's eyes crossed slightly, trying to bring it into focus, but there was no determinable shape. Something tickled his ears, and he thought he caught the tail end of a sentence. 'Never be better than who..?'
Several moments passed in confusion, though he tried his best to pay attention to the pretty mare before him. His ears flicked in uncertainty, but a genuine smile broke through at her innocent question. He twitched his tail, sending the tip into a happy wriggle before nodding.
"Yes. Of course I think you're special, Muse, even if you don't have a horn. Your marking is beautiful, and I think that you're one-of-a-kind, even if I've only known you for a few minutes."
She fascinated him, and that annoying little shimmer in the air was...well, annoying, but unique. He didn't know if it was her, or something else, but she had gladly laughed when he said the rocks were vicious, and her enjoyment in him seemed as genuine as his was in her. Her next question had him straightening up in pride, eyes glimmering with the same emotion.
"I was taught as a foal, and it's a constant occupation, especially to better myself if anyone needs me...even if it's just to make them smile." He shook his head, too, and gave a soft snort. "Well, I suppose weirdness is in the eye of the beholder, but I'm pretty sure you're not that weird, Muse."
He quirked his head to the side a moment, wondering. "What brings you out here, anyway? Do you travel, too, then?"
a momentary shiver of excitement clipped over him, if that was indeed the case, perhaps he could have some company and escort his beautiful acquaintance to where-ever she needed to go.

Yet again she was in that situation. Stallion goes gaga over Muse and it begins. So story was interference apparently. If anyone was to be fawned over by a stallion it was her.
"Excuse me..." she whispered in Danae's ear, "She's not special. I am but its a shame you can't see me. Oh dear I must be a ghost if you can't. Either that or you're delusional."
Muse let her eyes go wide! She heard Story and she knew that Danae did. What would he do now? Should she yell at her friend? No... it would complicate things even more.
She held her breath looking at Danae with helpless eyes. "You believe me now? She's playing a horrible game. Please Danae please tell me you you heard her. I mean... " she couldn't continue afraid Danae would just give up being her friend.
Story smirked over at Muse amused entirely of the havoc she caused, "Round one... story wins. Better luck next time Muse dear."

Danae's ears perked and quivered. He definitely heard that. Suddenly more uncomfortable than before, he danced sideways and tossed his head, making sure to move away from the ear the whisper came from. What was this, that something could whisper in his ear but there was nobody there..?! It was more than uncomfortable, in fact, it downright scared him. His head was held high, ears held at stiff attention, and he eyed that pesky shimmer warily.
Forcing himself to hold, he took a deep breath. He would not bow! He would not flee like a frightened colt the first time he saw a leaf quiver; he was a knight, and no coward. If indeed there was someone else present with them, then he supposed it was only right to address her, too, despite it seemed as though she had a jealous heart.
Drawing a breath, Danae flicked an ear and lowered his head, giving Muse a reassuring look, having calmed, now. First things first, however, he searched a moment for that distinctive shimmer. Finding it, he looked directly towards it, lifting his head. He wasn't aggressive, but he wasn't going to be pushed over, either.
The murmur of this...well, whomever it really was winning 'round one' disgusted him, but he held his distaste in, and rather addressed the more pressing issue.
"I do not believe I'm delusional. You may be, however, if you continue to put your friend down. She is quite special. You may be, as well...I won't discount that, but unlike what you've just done, she does not shove it in my face." Eyeing the shimmer, critically, he strove to see what was there. He caught slight impressions, to be sure, but no more than that. He refused to ply her with compliments, but neither did he outright insult her.
Slowly, he turned his head and body towards Muse. His amethyst eyes warmed slightly, and his ears relaxed.
"You will have to forgive me, Muse. I didn't disbelieve you, but...well, you hadn't mentioned you had a...companion, that I couldn't see." Still, his eyes held a good-natured look, and he wasn't angry. After all, who knew how many others had given her the cold shoulder for all of what might have happened?
Story's words only made him all the more determined to help her, to be her friend, despite the - haha - rocks that got in the way. But he would not outright ignore this other, either...that could only spell disaster. Danae would avoid that at all costs.
