Survey Says (-):
Greatest Fear: Being alone or in the dark for too long.
Second Greatest Fear: Insects or bugs of any kind.
Skeleton in his/her Closet: Em suffers every day from a broken heart. It kills her inside that Motias might be dead and she never confessed or even ackowledged her feelings for him.
Biggest Turn-off: Rudeness or Forcefulness.
Any Allergies: Em actually has a small allergy to metal.
Pick a scar and describe how he/she got it: She has a small scar on her back from slipping down a set of stairs when she was young before she came to live with Mordecai. She also has a small zig-zag scar behind her left ear from the day she lost her sight.
Worst Personality Trait: She has a terrible time admitting she's wrong and is also very very proud. She can be a bit bossy at times, too. Overall, just stubborness.
How's his/her personal hygiene: Very, very good. With no sight, her other senses are more sensitive. She can't stand body odor.
Appearance: Em stands at about 5'2" in height with a petite yet somewhat athletic build weighing in at roughly 120lbs. Her hair is cut short and is a sandy gray, almost white color. It's also thick and almost shaggy, an unruly mess. Her eyes were once a brilliant green but are now clouded over and almost gray. Her skin is fair, very pale almost to the point of her seeming ghostly. Along her cheeks and the bridge of her nose are very pale copper-colored freckles. Her fingernails are always neatly trimmed, never grown out too much. Despite her small build, her feet are somewhat large (a size or two too big for someone like her) thus making her somewhat clumsy.
As far as clothing goes, her usual Mage's outfit consists of a long-sleeve white linen shirt with long baggy sleeves and a mid-drift torso under which she wears a beige undershirt (tank top). The long-sleeve shirt has a medium brown hem and connects in the front with two small leather ties. Over that she wears a dark brown leather vest that hangs slightly too big on her and ties to the left side with two lighter leather clasps. The beige undershirt fits snugly and goes well down past her hips. For a belt, she wears a medium brown ribbon that ties in a bow cocked to the right. Her skirt is short, falling to just above mid-thigh and is white with medium brown diamonds on the end of each segment.
The skirt is pleated to look like flower petals. She also wears thigh-high stockings with a similar diamond pattern to match her skirt. The stockings are beige with medium brown diamonds going up the outer sides of her legs. She also wears dark brown ranger-esque boots that go up to mid-shin. They match her vest. On top of her head she also wears a dark brown headband in her mess of hair. Around her neck is a charcoal-colored necklace shaped like a diamond with an eye in the center. The necklace enables her to summon her Puru. She also carries a small black wand.
Personality: Em is very headstrong and stubborn. Being blind for most of her life, she's very sensitive about her handicap. This makes her come off as a hot-head, easily tempered. She loves to help people because it makes her confident, even to the point of arrogance. Even though she loves it, she always acts like she's going out of her way to do such things. It really just has to do with her proud personality. She isn't shy at all but she's not the type to dominate the conversation, either. She doesn't socially behave well among large groups of people. Rather, she would enjoy being around three or so people at the most.
She's sarcastic and snarky and tends to be a brag, but she never intends to be hurtful. In any case when she finds she has hurt someone, she'll apologize to them but only in private. A morbid sense of humor, she loves to tease the people she cares about. She hates guys who flirt too much or seem to be perverted or have little respect for women and is quick to put them in their place. Never one to sit by if someone else is mocking a friend, you can be sure Em will destroy someone who messes with anyone close to her. Behind her tough stubborn tomboy exterior, she's a typical girl though. While she never talks about her actual hopes and dreams, she wants to meet a man who will love her unconditionally and start a family, but that's a secret.

History: When Em was born, her parents couldn't have been happier to have such an adorable daughter. They were quick to show her off to all of their high-society friends, proud and arrogant. It wasn't until she began to develope into a toddler around her first birthday did they start to panick. Being an upper class family in a normal human area, the couple found themselves ashamed to admit that their beautiful normal daughter really wasn't that normal at all. No, the baby was showing signs of having magic running through her veins and that just wasn't acceptable to the happy materialistic couple.
Thus, their journey began. Packing up the small girl and all of her belongings, the couple took her to a town far far away from their home, outside the reach of their own reputation. There they found and old isolated mage named Mordecai and begged him to take their abnormal child off of their hands. The old man declined, but the couple persisted. This went on for three days and nights. Each one of those nights, Mordecai was haunted in his sleep by visions of what could possibly happen to the small girl if she returned home with her parents.
The final straw was a very vivid vision he had the final night Em's parents came to the door begging him to take the girl. The vision ended with blood and screams. When Mordecai awoke that evening to answer the door, he reluctantly held out his arms to take the snow-headed baby in as his own. He agreed to give her his name, Tenkar, and make sure she never, ever knew the truth about who were real parents were or where they came from.
The first year he had the child, he hired a nanny to come care for her. The old man didn't know the first thing about raising a little girl, but he observed and learned and by the time Em was two and a half years old, he was finally brave enough to try and teach her magic on his own, thanking the nanny for teaching him how to care for her. Several months into their lessons, a spell backfired a massive explosion ensued sending shards of metal and debris everywhere. Mordecai did what he could to protect Em, but the explosion sent to much debris at the girl and she ended up losing her sight after age three.
Yet another year passed and Mordecai did what he could to try and teach Em magic like a normal mage. Time after time, the girl with no sight accidentally set her master ablaze. Finally, he had had enough of the nonsense. Taking her small staff, he put her in her room and told her that she had the power to become a great mage someday, but she just wasn't mature enough to harness her power and the fact that she couldn't see disabled her from controling it at all. As long as she stayed with him, he refused to teach her anymore.
And so, as the years went by, Em took to learning to play instruments as she was locked into her room. After ten years went by and she entered her adolescent years, she began to craft herself a small wand, which wasn't the traditional weapon of choice for a mage but it still helped filter the magic and was a lot easier for her to hide from Mordecai. For two years she tried her best to teach herself magic and keep it a secret from her master, which proved to be very difficult. In fact, over the ten years, Mordecai, himself, had become a bitter angery old man and a shut in.
Finally, to get things taken care of around his castle, Mordecai hired a young boy by the name of Motias to help him. Motias was a good kid and often did was he was told, but still, he became curious about the music always playing through the castle. One day, he finally wanted to get to the bottom of the mystery, often hearing Mordecai curse about 'what a mistake it was to take her in,' and other similar things. Careful not to get caught, Motias wandered to the upper levels of the castle to where Em's room was located.
When he peeked inside, he hadn't expected to find a girl near his own age, thin and gaunt from Mordecai often forgetting to feed her. She was sitting on her bed, a violin balanced on her chin. Her eyes were closed as she played and when he finally made his appearance known. Her eyes opened to display a cloudy green blank stare of surprise. Motias escpecially hadn't expected to find a blind girl playing the music he listened to on a daily basis. But, Em didn't even bother finding out who he was, instead, she begged him to go fetch her some food, as Mordecai had forgotten to feed her for two days already.
After that, their visits with each other became a regular thing. Motias hadn't been working for Mordecai for more than four months or so when his pity for Em finally became too much for him to stand. He immediately began planning her escape. It wasn't difficult; he simply showed up late one day. The old impatient mage soon left the castle to run his own errands leaving Em the only one left in the castle. Slipping inside, he made his way upstairs to unlock her room and out the door they went. When Mordecai returned home to find his castle empty, he merely laughed and was glad that they were both no longer his responsibility.
Only fifteen and sixteen years old, Em and Motias sought out other mages all over the country to help Em learn how to control her own magic. By this time, her magic and maturity were nearly equal. The men and women they found to teach Em were a lot friendlier and patient than Master Mordecai had been. This went on for three years- three years of Motias loving Em and she only believing that he was her friend and he not doing anything to let her know otherwise. That is, until they finally stumbled across the legend of the Purusianite Temple. The legend stated that deep within the temple rested the Eye of Atlas, the all-knowing god of the Puruianites. The Eye of Atlas was believed to be a charm that could grant any wish of the person who wore it.
It took the pair nearly two years to locate this fabled temple. And, just as they had expected, the journey through the ancient building proved to be severely dangerous. After overcoming trap after trap and monster after monster, they finally came to possess the Eye. It was a pendant on a long silver chain of a violet eye. But, upon trying to escape the temple, the two found themselves being chased by countless beasts who had been looking after the Eye for hundreds of years.
Both of them couldn't escape together. The beasts were closing in and the walls were starting to come together, closing all of the escape routes that had led them into the temple. In his final act, to both save Em and show her how much he loved her, Motias stopped at one end of a long closing hall and urged Em to go on and escape while he distracted the monsters. Stubbornly, she refused, so he pushed her out and sacrifised himself. To this day, Em still believes he may be alive somewhere.
She now spends her time travelling, having first left to locate Motias's family who lived in Barton Town to let them know what happened to their son and what he had done for her. Then she chose to move to Durem so that she could use her magic in a positive way to help others, maybe not sacrifising her life, but just to show them the kindness that she had once seen in her friend so long ago, yet another two years later.

•The Eye of Atlas: The charm-pendant Motias risked his life to retrieve for Em from the Purusianite Temple. The Eye of Atlas was named after the Purusianite god, Atlas, and is said to grant a single wish of the person who wears it for as long as their wear it. In this case, Em's one wish was to be able to see. When she wears the necklace around her neck and taps the pendant with her wand, an eye roughly the size of a basket ball appears. This eye, violet like the charm, has two small fins like a fish and a pointed tail on the back. The eye, named Puru by Em, allowed Em to see in black and white. It sees for her and projects the images back to her brain. The downsides are that Em can only ever see what the eye sees, so if it wanders off, as it often does, she is either forced to turn the charm off or watch whatever it is that has the eye's attention. The eye seems to have a mind of its own and Em believes the eye contains the spirit of a guy, because its often distracted by other females who have the ability to manipulate magic. Puru itself seems to have the personality of a small puppy. Being easily distracted, excited, or frightened, it doesn't seem to be aware of personal space or boundaries.
