Adelyn grinned to herself as she padded along the edge of the river which rain through the neutral territory. She was walking close to the edge but she knew she wouldn't fall in. She had once been a clumsy, dorky little newborn but she was a proud, gracefully pup now! She wouldn't fall.
Tilting her face up, she continued to grin as she moved. Adelyn had left her mother with a quick promise to return, her siblings were back at the den where Adelyn should have returned to hours ago but she was on an adventure.
Not a particularly brave thing, she hadn't confronted any other helixes or creatures, beyond the butterfly she had stalked. She had wanted to attack it but she remembered her mother telling her not to attack butterflies, so she hadn't touched it, just followed it until it had crossed the river.
She was too little to cross on her own, unfortunately and she sighed, glancing over to the other side. There was a bridge sort of thing further up but she was already regretting going so far from home. She wasn't sure where to go to get back to the den, other then following the river back the way she'd came, but the den wasn't along the riverbank.
Glancing over her shoulder, she peered around trying to spot something familiar. Sighing when she recognized nothing, she began to turn around when her foot slipped. Her back paw dropped into the water and she panicked, her claws digging into the dirt as she let out a shriek like yelp. In her panick, both her back paws dropped into the lake and what had been a seasonably warm day, suddenly felt bitterly cold as her legs and tail were soaked instantly.
"Help!" She screamed, clawing pitifully at the edge of the river.

Silas was used to the cold, he had live in the north his whole life, but that didn't mean he didn't get sick of it sometimes. The snowfall had increased in the last month to an almost bitter extent. In result, he had clearly marked his territory and demolished the snow cave he had built to keep him warm and had simply left the territory.
Love of his home lands or not, Silas didn't intend to stick around and freeze to death out of some misguided loyalty to a patch of ice. If some helix took over his territory while he was away, he would simply fight whoever it was and kick them out. It was how he got most of his scars.
He had reached the start of the neutral territory, choosing to travel the river because it would lead to the center of the territory. He had been inside the neutral territory before, but mostly just in passing. He didn't like it's temperature, preferring the south or west better. Not to mention, the lands constantly stank like other helixes.
Ears perked and tail held high, Silas continued on his journey along the river, pausing when he heard a yelp. Frowning, he fastened his step, starting to run in earnest when he heard the bellowed cry for help. When he spotted the young pup, clinging to the edge of the river, his heart froze and he did too.
Only for a second but in that time, the pup had finally slipped, falling into the river. Panicking, Silas did the only thing he could think of and jumped in after. He quickly grabbed the sinking pup, holding her high above the water as he tried to paddle back to the sides. Unfortunately, wet paws did not help trying to climb out and he struggle to find his grip. Dropping the pup onto dry land, shivering but safe, Silas tried to find a grip on the bank to lift himself out.

Tayka padded softly through the neutral territory, her home, sticking close to the river and watching as the sun dancing on the water. She was easily pleased by the simple in life, watching the other creatures frolicking about in the chilled air. With one quick shiver she dismissed the thoughts of cold from her mind. Though it was indeed cool she had been in much worse then this before.
The chill in the air had turned the leaves deep oranges and reds, crispy and fallen. Autumn was Tayka’s favourite time of the year. The crunch underfoot as she walked through the leaves had her smiling to herself, childishly making a point to hit every one of them as she passed.
She peaceful walked was interrupted when she heard the cry for help. Instantly was off, running along the river’s edge until she caught sight of the pup and male helix. She hurried to the male dangling in the water and pulled him onto the shore. After the struggled against the slippery ground, and making sure he was safely on shore she relaxed, slightly. “Shake off, quickly both of you or you’ll get a chill!” She said softly, nudging the pup with her nose and checking for any injuries. “Are you both alright?”

Adelyn was shivering bitterly on the ground, not just from the cold water but from fright. She had only a second to react as she fell into the water before she was scooped out again by something she couldn't see. She was too disorientated to scent the other helix, and instead struggled against his grip. When she was placed on the shore, she tried to stand only to fall back onto the ground and continue to shiver. She stared at the two older helixes in fear, wondering why the male had saved her. She didn't shake off, her legs were too weak to hold her up right now.
Silas was glad when someone helped to pull him from the river, he would have had to struggle for a while or float downstream until he found a rock to climb onto. This way, he was able to drag himself out right beside the pup he had just soaked his fur to save. Glancing up, he was a little surprised to find a elder female had been the one to drag him out. “Thank you,” he said, not to be impolite to her. He got to his feet, moving a distance away from the two females so that he could shake himself of. He tried to make sure he didn't splash them with that water from his fur. When he had gotten most of the water off, remaining slightly damp but it was better then being soaked, he moved back towards them. His fur was fluffier then normal, making him look younger then he was. He frowned at the young pup who had yet to move, “shake yourself off,” his voice was gruff, “I didn't save you from drowning only for you to die of cold.”

Tayka sigh and prodded the pup gently with her nose. “Come on little one, you need to dry off.” She glanced back and the gruff male. “No need to thank me, anyone would have done it.” She nodded in approval as he backed off and shook himself dry.
She blinked in surprise when she heard the male’s rough tone with the young pup before them. “Don’t worry honey; you’re not going to die!” She was quick to reassure her, pushing against her again. “You’re completely safe now, sweetheart; you just need to dry off so you won’t get yourself ill.”
She glanced back at the male walking towards them, “Are you alright? You didn’t hurt yourself did you? You should lay down, you must be tired after all that!” She directed to him, still helping the pup.

Adelyn's eyes widened in fright at what the elder male had said, if only for a moment. Was she going to die? Was it really that easy to die from cold? Oh no. When the female spoke up, reassuring Adelyn that she was safe, the fear faded a little. She allowed the female to nudge her and used that extra support to raise herself up. She was young and hadn't learned to common courtesy to move away to shake and promptly shook herself dry in front of both of the elder helixes. Water flew from her and landed on them, though because of her small size, the water wasn't much. “S-sorry!” she added after she was drier, her eyes widening when she realised what she'd done.
Silas shook off the other helixes worry about him. “I have had worse, I'm not tired,” he replied, making no mention of anything in particular but just by glancing at his fur, mattered with scars, it was obvious that a little water had been a easy experience for him. He felt a momentary pang of regret when he realised he had scared the young pup but it was true, excessive amounts of cold could kill, as he knew well. He had seem many people pass away from the cold in the north and had been unable to save them, though he wished he had. The male barely flinched when the cold water from the pup's fur hit him, having been standing nearby to make sure she did what the other female told her. He didn't shake himself off again, seeing as that would just result in the water hitting the other two once more. “Worry not,” he replied easily to the pup, his tone as gruff as before, “it's only water.” He didn't sound threatening, or at least he hoped not. He knew he could be scary but it wasn't his intention to scare the two females. At least, not today.

Tayka smiled down at the little pup sitting in front of her. “It’s fine darling, an accident. What’s important is that you’re all dry now.” She assured her, looking over the little body for any more harm. The shock she had probably been through would dull any pain she felt…
After quickly scanning her Tayka was satisfied with what she saw. “Now, sweetheart you must be scared stiff. You should just lie down and relax.” She said, nudging the little body down.
With a sigh she then turned toward the young male. “Now, just because you’ve had worse doesn’t mean you should strain yourself.” She replied sternly looking over the scar riddled body. A number of things flew through the elder females mind, a number of lectures or varying topics. It took great inner strength to remind herself she was not his mother and he would learn things at his own pace. “I would strongly recommend rest, even momentarily. Remember to set a good example for the young lady, here.” She kept her tone soft then, not wanting to challenge the young helix. She knew all to well how males of his age rebelled against authority, especially from strangers and males that were as 'tough' as this one.
"Now that brings to mind, what are your names? I don't even know them and that could get confusing." She said cheerfully, looking down that the pup. "I'm Tayka."

Adelyn eyed the older helix as she spoke. She was soft and she was pretty. She looked nothing like Adelyn's mother though, which made her a little nervous. She allowed the female to nudge her back to the ground, her legs giving out easily as she laid on the floor, silent still. The male was dark and looked scary, like one of the badmen in the stories her mother had told her. The older female didn't seem scared of him though. When Tayka turned to Adelyn and introduced herself, Adelyn gave a wobbly smile. “M'Adelyn,” she said quietly, her tail perking up a little. “Mama says it means m'noble and beautiful.” Adelyn hadn't quite grasped the concept of the meanings of names yet, she just liked the sound of hers and her mother had once mentioned the meaning.
Silas narrowed his gaze as Tayka when she spoke to him, but he stayed silent. Not because he agreed with her, but because he had always hated seeing people fight when he was a pup. It was simply a favour to the young girl who was watching them both with wide gaze. “Of course,” Silas replied smoothly, his gruff voice evening out for once. He lowered himself to the ground, a fair distance from the pup so as not to crowd her. When Tayka introduced herself, Silas noted the name in the back of his mind to remember later, should they ever meet again. He did the same with Adelyn's, a slight soft look on his face at her words that followed. It was cute, even Silas wasn't immune to it. “I am Silas,” he replied simply, not volunteering more. They weren't interested in his life story, so he didn't elaborate.

If Tayka was anything it was perceptive, especially to body language. The slightest tenses, subtle shifts, it all spoke to her as if done out loud. It was something that naturally to the omega female, who had made it her life to care for other helixes. So, Silas’s displeasure was not lost on her for his lack of vocalization. For this she felt guilty, she simply worried to much, babied to much, it was her nature. She did admit, to herself, her respect for the silence he kept, it showed maturity. With a relieved sigh she settled down with them, not wanted to tower over the two helixes in her company.
Tayka smiled at the young pup then and nodded, “Well, it’s a fitting name then.” She replied happily, and thought on her own. “Tayka doesn’t mean anything, my mother told me. She made it up when she saw me for the first time so that I would have a name that’s meaning I had control over, do you understand that?”

Adelyn tilted her head to the side, peering up at the elder female. "You can make meanings to names yourself?" She asked, sounding curious and confused. She thought all names came with a meaning, a reason to be named as such. Wasn't that the point of having a name? She shook her head, and glanced at the other male, now seeking his input.
Silas had been listening to the females talk, with little input to the conversation. He was more concerned with how the little one was fairing, since she would no doubt be cold due to her wet coat but she seemed to almost not be aware of any coldness. When the pup looked towards him, as if seeking his own opinion, he frowned and glanced at the elder female.
"Names are like people, we make our own meanings." It was a more cryptic statement, than Tayka had said.
