<O------------------------------------------------------------------------O> [The Writer] NAME--> Jacqueline [Jackie] Berret AGE--> 20 GENDER--> Female PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION--> Jackie is of a medium sort of build, standing at about 5’6”, and weighing around 130. However, any mass she might have is probably muscle, and she normally has a fantastic sunburn or tan. Her light brown hair is almost always kept in a rather messy ponytail, with a thin headband keeping her bangs out of her face. Let down, her hair is naturally wavy, with side swept bangs. She adds temporary streaks of color to it as the mood takes her. Her eyes are wide, and a very bright shade of green, and her face is simply average. She’s not particularly pretty, and doesn’t try to hide it with gobs of make-up. Her clothing is rather simple, graphic tee-shirts and hoodies making up a huge portion of her wardrobe, with the occasional interesting accessory or her favorite pin-stripe hat thrown in. The only real peculiarity in her choice of clothing is that, when it comes to pants, she refuses to wear anything other than mesh basketball shorts that come down to her knees. She has a pair in just about every color available, and wears a different color everyday, even right on through the winter. As for shoes, well, anything’s fair game, although she does seem to have a bit of an affinity for the Converse brand. PERSONALITY--> Jackie, instead of having the quietly brilliant personality one might expect out of someone able to earn a spot in Benjamin Baenare’s workshop, is actually a rather outgoing and academically average sort of person. Her interests are much more physically challenging than mentally so. She despises idleness, and is almost constantly moving around, her spirit constantly restless and needing extreme entertainment. The only reason she’ll ever sit still is for a good book. And, despite her average grades in most subjects, Jackie really does work very hard at things she deems important and is an extremely motivated individual. If she starts something, you can bet she’s going to finish it. She believes in taking a very proactive approach to life, with a firm conviction that things are never set in stone; anything can be done if you apply yourself. Her overall temperament is outwardly cheerful and goofy, and inwardly serious and driven. She can be a bit blunt at times, but never means any harm by it; she simply isn’t very good at lying. Her outlook on life is basically optimistic. BACKGROUND--> The first few years of Jackie’s life were spent in a modest little orphanage, run by a kindly couple in their early sixties. Her mother, she was told, gave her up almost right after she was born, saying that she really just couldn’t deal with a child at the time. Jackie holds no grudges, and has forgiven her mother completely, but has never felt any sort of desire to go and search for her. Really, she can hardly even remember her years at the orphanage. She was only there until around the age of four, when she was adopted by an upper middle-class couple whose children had all grown up and moved away.
Jill and Tony Berret, her new parents, were quite nice, if a bit demanding of their adopted little girl. They never let her quit something once she began, always encouraging her to go the extra mile as well as constantly making her try new things. Not that she really minded. After a year or so, she adjusted very well to this new way of life, and, at the age of five, had already formed a completely independent state of mind. She feels she owes everything to her adoptive parents, who never allowed her to slip into the depression and self-loathing she’d seen in many of her peers. She’s extremely grateful too, for their encouragement, and their subtle ways of always letting her know that they were always proud of her, no matter what she did.
As she grew, she gradually came to know her new siblings as well. It wasn’t easy, as even the youngest was more than twenty years older than her, but they’ve also become very dear to her. The youngest, Mark, is a pediatrician at a small hospital, and the closest to Jackie. He was the first one she met, and they became almost immediate best friends, with his crazy and silly attitude balancing out the mild melancholy that haunted her for the first couple months after she arrived. He’s the biggest reason why she’s learned not only to work hard, but also to let go occasionally and just laugh.
The middle child, twenty-five years Jackie’s elder, was away in Africa helping to build housing and schools when Jackie was adopted, so she didn’t actually meet her until she was about six. Sarah is mild and quiet, with a very calm and gentle attitude. She loves helping out, and always seems to know exactly what to say. Oddly enough, it was from her that Jackie learned of her own intense love for extreme sports. Both of them share a passion for the extreme, and regularly get together to plan out their next adventure.
The eldest, Dan, is a very serious guy, smiling occasionally, and laughing rarely. At almost thirty years older than Jackie, he’s the one who’s always felt the most distant to her. They get along fine and have a sort of mutual respect, but they share very little in the way of interests.
When she hit high school, and her grades went from being all A’s down to more average marks like C’s, was when Jackie realized that she definitely wasn’t overly fond of things like math and science. She kept up, but it was never interesting, and the ever-growing equations and complex solutions made her head spin. She started noticing, however, that her English grades hadn’t dropped; in fact, they were better than ever, and she found herself enjoying the subject more and more with each passing day. Eventually, she realized that this is what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. Writing was fascinating to her, and she wanted to learn everything about it. She had always been very into reading and literature, but through her high school career, she developed a voracious appetite for those printed words, and could hardly ever be seen without a book or three tucked under her arm.
Eventually, she went off to college, which is where she was when she heard of this workshop, and decided to try her hand at it. <O------------------------------------------------------------------------O>

<O------------------------------------------------------------------------O> [The Character] NAME--> Ciel Marque AGE--> 16 GENDER--> Female SPECIES--> Gifted Human PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION--> An albino, Ciel has snow white skin and hair, with red eyes dulled to a very faint hue due to her blindness. Her curly hair is cut very short, and she has a rather boyish and naive face, so is often mistaken for a young boy. She has two small, very dark red birthmarks, both perfect circles, on the left and right side of her forehead. A dark brown leather band usually covers these marks. She’s not very tall, standing only at around 4’10”, but she’s well muscled from long hours spent working on her family’s farm. However, whenever she does go outside for long periods of time, she must cover every inch of skin to keep it from being painfully burned. Her pants are very baggy hand-me-downs from her older brother, and, since it’s usually far to warm to wear long sleeved shirts, she winds bandages around her arms and hands, all the way up to her shoulders. Her shirts are simple and short-sleeved, with a neck that comes up about half-way to her chin. The rest of her neck is also wrapped in bandages, which come to a stop just below her ears. On her head, she wears a wide-brimmed straw hat, which has a small piece of cloth coming down in the back to protect her ears. When the weather gets cooler, she has a colorful patch-work trench-coat which comes down to her ankles. The only pair of shoes she owns are her work boots, which actually fit rather well, considering they were also previously her brother’s. PERSONALITY--> A little hot-headed and compulsive at times, it’s unsurprising to her family that Ciel has gone off to seek her destiny. She’s always been a flighty sort of person, and enjoys new situations and excitement. A life spent entirely on a farm would never have suited her. Despite her outwardly irritable and jumpy personality, Ciel is actually a bit of a romantic at heart. She dreams of the happy ending she could bring about, and of the day when she gets to be a part of something bigger than herself. So you can imagine how annoyed she was when this time never came. Now that’s she’s finally on the road seeking out her fate, she’s feeling awfully positive and cheerful. {More to come when I feel like typing it out. : o} <O------------------------------------------------------------------------O>
