Name: Fellendar
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Harper
Rank: Apprentice/Candidate
History: Born to some no-name Weyrworkers, Fellendar’s early turns where not special, not in the least. Raised alongside his fellow warrants, he did not know his parents particularly well, nor did he particularly care to. When there are kids to play with and small, dirty places to explore, a boy has better things to do, clearly.
Of course, that didn’t mean his mother didn’t have high hopes for him. Just because she didn’t have time to raise Fell herself didn’t mean she didn’t intend for him to be the best he could be. Of course, dragon riding seemed awfully dangerous for her son. So Fellendar was sent off to receive training from Harper Hall. A bright enough boy, he did just fine in his classes. His voice was pretty enough, nothing exceptional, but he got by. And Fellendar was just fine with that. Getting by was exceptional in its own right, really. It was practically an art form.
He was nearing his eighteenth turn and beginning to feel pressure about decisions about working towards walking the table when a friendly blue dragon informed his rider he was fairly certain they should bring Fellendar back to High Reaches. That was good enough for Fellendar, got him out of Harper Hall and who didn’t want to be a dragon rider, anyways? Being a dragon rider was probably the most glorious thing on Pern, in Fell’s not so humble opinion. They didn’t have to sing, either. Bonus.
Of course, returning to High Reaches was a pleasure in and of itself, but reuniting with his childhood friend, Melchior, was an absolute joy. He was a vinter too! Would the wonders never cease? So with a little prodding, and a promise of some fine Benden wine, Fell convinced Mel to stand alongside him. He failed to Impress his first Standing, but he isn’t bothered. Fell is certain his bronze is out there, waiting for him. If it takes a little time, he’s fine with that. The best things in life take time, after all.
Appearance: Black hair and warm brown eyes, nothing about Fellendar stands out. He’s of average height and while a little lanky, he is finally starting to fill out. Being a harper was not particularly encouraging in the fields of building muscles and being the opportunitist that he is, Fell saw no reason to exercise anymore than he was absolutely required to. After all, it’s not like he’s looking to engage in any fist fights any time soon. He has very little need to actually be well built.
A relatively pleasant young man, and pleasant is really only relative, his expression is usually very bright and very telling. He thinks the world of himself, after all, and his grin is usually as smug as they come. He usually comes off as though he’s laughing at you and, you know what? He probably is.
Personality: Fellendar is exceptionally good at being anything but exceptional.
A clever boy, he discovered early on the best way to make yourself look awesome is to be an average Joe and have the occasional moment of absolute brilliance. Given, Fell’s shining brilliance truly are only moments of sheer inspiration, but no one really needs to know that. Not given to thinking his plans all the way through, Fell moves on first instinct. However, even when things don’t go his way, he is ready to push through. Rethinking things would be akin to admitting he was mistaken and, you see, that sort of thing just doesn’t happen to Fell.
He has very high hopes, hopes of Impressing a bronze and becoming a Weyrleader, he just doesn’t seem to have a lot of the ambition. Fell enjoys having a good time, which explains his choice in friends, it really does. While he has goals, and he does put in a little bit of effort now and then, he’s easily waylaid by a little bit of goading. That isn’t to say he doesn’t care about he wants, because he does, his willpower just seems to lack a bit of maturity. To put it in perspective, Fellendar is the frat boy majoring in premed, parties all night and has a royal breakdown when he realizes he has an exam in the morning.
Somehow, he manages to pull the exam off. That’s because he cheats, you see. Cheats at whatever he can. And if he’s caught, Fell will be the first to tell you ‘all successful men cheat if they can get away with it’, because they do. Fell has no noble cause or righteous movements, he just wants what he wants. While he seems to have a taste of politics, he is not mature enough to really have a firm handle on the ability to manipulate people. He usually just pisses him off.
But that’s okay. It’s all in good fun, anyways.
