The day was brisk and cool, a hint of autumn in the still air. The leaves in the forest had already began to change in color, contrasting with the small Di'Taki's mouse-brown body. Unwavering gray eyes lazily scanned the horizon, a yawn escaping from the child's maw. With a quick stretch of each limb, Sepsis rose on all four feet and shook last night's dew from his mane of dull feathers. It was a new day and he was ready to begin his exploits.

Being a child, Sepsis was a rather curious fellow. He had grown up alone, surviving only on the strength his parents had given him before their death. The Deep Forest had been kind to him thus far and in that he found solace. The forest was his home, he knew, but something outside the rim of tall trees called to him. A deep curiosity flourished within the young Di'Taki and each day continued to fuel the flame.

After a moment of readying his body for a morning run, Sepsis set off toward the east... toward Lake Ha'tooka. Water and nourishment would be needed if he was going to spend the whole day exploring, he thought. A small smile crossed his mouth as he sped toward the edge of the forest. Soon the lake would come into view... soon a whole new world would be clear for his eyes to see.

A fog clouded the waters of lake Ha'tooka, unnaturally contained to a small area that moved seamlessly across the surface. From inside the swelling puffs, a paw stepped. Claws looked as if they would contact the water, but instead slipped straight through, not rippling the liquid even slightly. It was as if the figure wasn't even there.

In an instant, the creature lifted his head and vanished from the lake. The fog began to thin, floating into the sky until it disappeared completely. As cold as the waters of the lake were on their own, they could not sustain the thick fog without the icy touch that had summoned it. The area appeared normal for a time again before the air chilled at the water's edge. The figure made himself known once more, a wispy paw sliding through the air and reconfiguring itself before it touched the ground. Even as his silhouette was solidly Di'Taki, he was transparent against the forest backdrop.

Pale green, the only color his form still claimed, shone brightly as he observed the familiar area around him. He had been many places in his... afterlife. Many more than a mortal soul could even imagine. But still he was not sated. The world held onto him tightly despite his freedom of travel. Or perhaps it was the opposite. He still searched for something. That was what kept him grounded.

Long ears flicked stiffly in unison, his head turning slowly and heavily towards the trees. Such movements were only habitual, however. He was without the weight of life, now. His horns no longer felt heavy against the back of his skull and his ears, if he willed it, could slip completely into each other without consequence.

The sun continued to rise in the east, its cascading light tickling the changing colors of the season. Sepsis' paws continued to carry him out of the Deep Woods, now slowing to a brisk trot. The wind carried the scent of water to him and he closed his many eyes momentarily to enjoy it. Today seemed like a perfect day for a swim... but would he have time? His goal for the day was to see the Adahy Dead Land. He had heard so many rumors about it before... but the Adahy were not to be toyed with, he had been taught. Fortunately for him, only dead ones resided in the grave land.

Sepsis neared the lake's rim now, ears flicking back and forth, senses tingling with curiosity. He was familiar with Ha'Tooka, but he didn't seem to recall the same sense of eerie in his memory. He paused momentarily, gray eyes scanning the water's surface. Nothing. It was calm and perfect... just like he remembered. Then why do I feel this way? he asked himself silently.

It seemed the specter's feeling had been correct. As he turned his head, he caught sight of a movement at the edge of the trees not too far off. It eventually grew into something recognizable. He began to feel as if it had been a long time since he'd seen a child like this. It was no longer a habit to hang around others of his kind. There was often no need.

Form growing wispy once more, he stepped from his watching spot slowly towards the youngling. He felt no pang of interest, there was simply nothing else to do. There never really was.

As he neared, a large tree, separated from the treeline, stood in his way. Without thought, he stepped into it, passing through almost wholly. However, he hesitated before exiting the other side. Half in trunk and half out, he observed, his body growing invisible to the mortal eye when the scanning gaze came close enough. Then, when he was sure eyes were no longer upon him, he phased into visibility again and moved out of the tree, taking a seat.

It didn't much matter to him, honestly, if he was spotted now. He had merely wanted to gauge the child's reasons for being here first. Since he hadn't left yet, Amaquin thought perhaps he had a specific purpose.

Head ducked low, his body nearing the earth, Sepsis crawled onward toward the lake's edge, his mouth quivering with thirst. The forest was silent this morning, almost wretchedly calm, but that didn't erase the sudden panic that raced through him. Though still young, Sepsis had seen much in his lifetime and it was difficult to scare him. However, was he saw now was... was inconceivable.

A wispy, gray-green form sat calmly at the forest's rim, gazing about with white eyes. Sepsis paused mid-step, his heart nearing a stop. At first, he thought his imagination was playing tricks on him, as it often did. Children seemed to engage in their own fantasies when the world became too dull. However, the image before him did not disappear. It was real... the male Di'Taki was real. But then... how could he see nearly straight through him?

Sepsis cocked his mouse-brown head to the side, his premature mane of feathers dancing in a cool breeze. A spray of water caught on his fur, leaving tiny droplets to sparkle in the sunlight. "He---hello?" he called suddenly, a multitude of ears coming forward in curiosity.

From where he watched, now discovered, Amaquin remained silent. The breeze that swept through once more pulled at some of his form. A mist swirled around his paws again as he stood, not particularly noticeable, but there. For a long time he looked to be re-examining the situation until finally a sound came from him. It was a long breath, one that lifted his chest considerably in false life. The dead had no use for breathing. When his body rose and fell with air, it was only habit.

"Child," he greeted slowly, voice unpracticed. There was a time when he spoke often to the other members of his group, especially the children who aspired to be as strong as he. Long gone where those days. Kids where no longer of much use to him.

Regardless, he still took a step forward, followed by another. He wasn't careless in his movements, they were slow and calculated, even in the face of a youngling. But eventually he stopped, his feathers flickering from view as if they should have been bobbing with the steps.
