I'm trying to do Hawkeye from FullMetal Alchemist. (I'll provide pictures if people need them). My only problem is finding a place to get A Wig for her.

Anyone have any tips on where to find a good inexpensive wig that'll work? Or even how to style the Wig. I'm not going to attempt to go to Katie Bair's. Her work is great..... but I don't have $200+ on me to spend on Just a wig......

Katie Bair's website is not just a place to buy wigs. There is a forum there where you can also get adive from other people who have some experience styling wigs. Also, its a good place if you need to get wig dye or stuff like that.

you can get good quality wigs at amphigory.com (I think that is spelled right) Yes, you are going to have to pay a little for the wig. Any wigs that is decent quality is going to cost some where in the region of 25 dollars plus.

Its best to start with a femme fatale, straighten it, and then cut and style, so that you have the thickness and such. Its also easier to cut bangs into a wig then try to fix the ones that come in some.

My main suggestion, do NOT buy one from a halloween store. They are REALLY cheap and easily fall apart and are not that great to style.

Use katie bair's site to get tips and hints, because we all know that people cannot afford. But, if people have the time and money, she makes great wigs and shes a great rescource.

i would recommend cosplay.com's wig store. they're wigs are really, really good quality and they have a lot of styles too.

i wouldn't recommend Katie Blair because my friend bought his Ichigo wig from there and it didn't look anything like Ichigo's hair at all. he wanted it spiked up and all of the hair was swept back. he thinks it's probably one of her assistants that screwed it up and he tried contacting them but it didn't work out in the end. but the good thing was he now had a pretty good Kyo wig. sweatdrop

To each their own. Remember, we're not here to bash people ^.^ Not everyone is going to be happy with everything ^.^

Use all your resources ^.^ I've heard good things about cosplay.com for the most part. Haven't checked out their store personally.

You want to style your own right? (also, could you post pics? Its so much easier to give help or try to help with really nice reference pictures ^.^) Shop around, so to speak, see what people have to say about different places to buy wigs. If you have a wig store in town (not a halloween one) stop in there and see if they would be willing to order different styles and colors and such, that way you can maybe find something in store and then order it in a different color.

Use places like cosplay.com, katiebair.com, amphigory.com and such sites to look at different tutorials on styling, cutting and so forth. From there you should be able to put together your own style and make a great wig ^.^ What is good for the gander isn't always good for the goose. They only way to figure out what works is to give it a try yourself ^.^

Also, good reference pictures are a must ^.^ Make sure to get all angles possible! Even if you think that you won't need it, get a snap shot. Because the minute you think you have it, you realize that the artist did something to the side of the hair that you didn't catch. If you get stuck or want comments on your progress (We are here to help and to boost your ego ^.^) post on the board here and cosplay.com, katiebair.com and all the other cosplay forums (there are tons of them, its so great) and each of the people there can help you in different ways.

Good luck! Wig designing is fun!

I sorta want something that is close enough to what I'm looking for. Has teh sweep of her hair on the right side, and all I have to do is carefully clip it up.

Her hairstyle isn't that complicated.

Honestly I have no idea what the hairstyle looks like, so pictures may help silly people like me. Not sure how many wigs actually come with built in sweeps ^.^ But I'm not sure what you mean by that either

For wigs, I usually wait for Halloween season and save my money to buy plain white wigs in different lengths so I can style them and dye them in any way I want.

Again, you want to be careful with halloween store wigs because they are thin, the fibers are cheap, and they tangle easily (not that any wig doesn't ^.^)

nope I got it from a group called GoddessBoutique on Ebay. for $90 it looks AMAZING

Personally, I get all my wigs from Cosplay.com's wig store. Not only are they excellent quality but they're easily styled and dyed if the need arises. I got my first wig from Amphigory.com but it wasn't near the quality or selection you can get from Cosplay.com. And prices range from $30 to $70, which is totally affordable.

Katie Bair is an excellent wig designer, in my opinion, her wig dye just costs way too much x_x Especially when you're trying to dye a long wig.

Manda - Yes, it is a bit costly, but she also makes it herself. Though my friend has made something similar to it and used it. We pay for convience I suppose. Remember, she also does this for a living.

Laluna - Glad that you found a wig! I've bought from GoddessBoutique before myself. They are good people

I have her hairstlye, so just get your hair like hers and get yellow/blond hair spray. Her hair isn't that I hard I dont think.... Give the barber a picture of her hair. Dont cut the back, only her bangs. There you go, like.... a 10 dollar hairstyle and cosplay wig. lol
