"Aw, c'mon are you ******** kidding?!" Sixteen year old Audrey swore profusely at her screen, watching as the loot rolls displayed on the screen. Twenty two. Twenty ******** two!! She'd been trying to get that damn shield to drop out of Strat for almost a month now, and when she finally got a decent PUG, some ******** paladin rolled on it! AND WON! b*****d failadins. His dps wasn't that good! With a clatter, metal hit wood as the disgusted teen chucked her headset to rest precariously on a pile of unfinished homework.

That alone was enough to send her disgruntled mood straight into near-depression. Ever since she'd gotten drawn into what the man with the purple hair'd called 'The Best Game You'll Ever Play', Audrey was always behind. With homework, with raiding. With everything! Now, things were really heating up, and soon she'd fall behind there. Supposedly, that was deadly.

Sliding across her room, the bluenette leaned on her windowsill, looking out into the night and sighing deeply. Before she even really thought about it, Audrey was hoisting herself onto the wood, and then Linarite was on the roof next door with a decidedly inhuman leap. One good thing about this game was most decidedly the increased physical attributes. AGI and DEX through the roof!

It wasn't long before she was seated on top of a local business tower, gazing down at the city below. "Sometimes, you just gotta get away." The voice was wistful, and showed her age easily.

Ironic to think that someone else would be joining him up on one of his particularly favorite scouting areas; there was no mistaking the grey uniform, or the striking blue mop of hair. In fact, he was positive he'd heard scathing comments about a certain Negaverse lieutenant that looked striking similar to the girl who'd bounded her way up here with no issue at all. Obsidian watched and waited, his eyes almost gleaming while a grin tugged at the corners of his lips.

"Lieutenant Linarite." He named her almost thoughtfully, figuring if he was wrong... well, come on, how many others had blue hair? Sure, he didn't make it a goal of his to name each and every member in their sick little cult of sorts, but he was almost positive this was the girl that Nealite couldn't stomach.

That, of course, made her a prime target on his 'get to know' list. He was sorely tempted to ask if it was past her bed time, but he wasn't here to pick a fight right now--no, he'd save his pent up aggression for harvesting starseeds.

"Much easier to think when you're above the monotony of normal life, mm?"

Sharply, Linarite's body twisted to stare at the young man behind her. Her body had tensed at the usage of the name known to very few, but when she saw the strange uniform he was wearing, her body relaxed just a bit. Nealite had taught her to not explicitly trust the others in their organization, but he wasn't going to just shove her bodily off the building. That she could trust.

"There's less pressure up here, helps you think. Don't you agree?" She gave a lopsided smile, propping one knee up on the concrete wall so that she could comfortably keep her eyes on him. "Normal life isn't always monotonous, but it's certainly demanding. Don't you think?"

He tried not to grin a little at the tension that gripped her as she turned to eye him, her suspicion quite clear. Was she just that way, naturally? Or had Nealite managed to rattle her faith in the rest of the Negaverse. Chuckling, he folded his arms and leaned back against one of the structural support beams that made up the top of the tower, ankles crossing neatly while he stared up at the starry sky for a moment.

"I do." The man agreed easily enough, and it would be a moment before he introduced himself. "Lieutenant Obsidian. And I don't know... You don't think it's better, being what you are now?" He focused on her, curious and perhaps entertained. "Now you're something better than the rest. You don't have to just be a sheep." And that, in his mind, was what made it worth it and more.

That brought a bit of a laugh from Linarite's throat and she tossed her hair with a quick shake of her head. "That's assuming I was always unremarkable! I don't think I was, but then, you have a point. I'm even more than that now. Not sure how it counts in the big scheme of things, but I can at least say I'm doing something a sight more useful than those idiot senshi." She rolled her eyes at the thought of the ridiculously costumed sailor soldiers, obviously disdainful.

"I'd say I'm surprised we haven't met yet, Obsidian, but all I've really met so far is Caine. Oh and her. Nealite." The name made a sour taste in her mouth, and Linarite quickly moved on from all mentions of the sublimely attractive Negasecretary. "Pleased to meet you though. Obviously you know my name. What else do you know about me?" One blue eyebrow arched.

"So young, but already so sure of yourself." He would tease lightly, though didn't seem to be too condescending for the moment. "On the winning side, at least." The man agreed smoothly, seeming to mull that over to himself. Vastly outnumbered, certainly, but they'd pull through in the end... If some of these newcomers could haul their weight around. Tricky situation, right now, but if their oh-so brilliant General-King could come up with a plan (and actually inform them of it), perhaps things would turn around.

A brow arched itself smoothly at the mention of Caine and Nealite, and the man suppressed a grim smile. "So that's why she's jealous--you've gotten to interact with Charonite's cat himself..."

...Had he let that little lie slip out?

"That you're lovely, of course." He didn't mind complimenting, another grin threatening to spread. "And that you've managed to get under Nealite's skin. Other than that, nothing. If you wanted to indulge me, however..."

"It's the only thing you can be sure of. I know who I am, and what I'm doing. May not be too good at it," her mind flashed back to that disaster in the park, and the recent time-management issues, "but that's not the point." The smile grew as he flattered her somewhat shamelessly, and her sixteen year old heart drank it right up like a flower starved for sunlight.

"Jealous? I wouldn't disagree there. She seems to have a wide streak in that department." It was good to know that she was right about that. It was also somewhat amazing to her that the sexy and self-assured Nealite was potentially jealous of a mathlete upstart Lieutenant. All because of Caine? Interesting.

"I'm feeling indulgent. What is it you'd like to know, Obsidian?" The tone was mildly smug, and just a touch flirtatious. Later she would cling to the idea that he started it, she was just playing along!

"Then that makes two of us." The man drawled, shaking his head before he continued. "So few even seem motivated to at least try to accomplish the tasks we've been given, so at least you're ahead of the pack in that regard." He had to wonder, though; why would they continue to recruit those who proved incompetent?

"Mm, well, don't tell her I said that." Obsidian chuckled, though he knew it'd probably circulate somehow and he'd earn himself a bit of hell for it. "But who knows? If the General-King wants to make sure you're prepared... he must have a goal in mind." Always did, that slippery b*****d, and if they didn't all end up dead, maybe he'd grace them with his presence long enough to explain what the hell was going on.

"What are your plans for all of this? Is it the power?" He was honestly curious, studying the girl through slightly narrowed eyes. Had she been willing? Or simply corrupted until little remained of the human girl she'd once been?

Stretching and kicking her dangling leg idly, Linarite made a non-committal sound and shook her head slowly. "Mm...no. I know it's hard to imagine, but I'm not exactly what you'd call a powerful sort of person. Usually it's about finesse, you know? Getting the job done right, instead of just barreling through it." Usually. "All I really remember is that this guy with purple hair and a lot of black offered me what he called 'The best game you'll ever play'. That's what I do, play games online and stuff. I'm really good at strategy, I'll have you know."

The grin was wide as she bragged slightly about an area she felt she had more than moderate prowess. "I think that's why he came after me. Anyone can bull their way through something, but with a good strategy sometimes things go better more often than not." Her eyes assessed the man in front of her. "You don't look like the rush in and beat 'em up type. Are you going to disappoint me and say you are?"

That'd be a real shame. He was really more than likeable, minus his association with Nealite.

Her words would earn a grin from him, but he listened carefully as she explained herself with a nod or two. Well, at least she knew how to utilize her mind when her body failed to cooperate; that was a skill that might come in handy, should she live that long. "MMOs?" He offered, musing over that. So Charonite had lured her in, and from the sounds of it, she'd been corrupted willingly. All a game, huh? He could respect that mentality.

"I'm sorry to disappoint, but there's not much else to do with my current abilities." Obsidian chuckled, stretching a little. "I find brute strength does me just fine. I am that powerful sort of person. Patient, but I know how to take an opportunity, and once I'm sure I can take someone out, it's best to do it quickly." Oh, he did his research of course; there was no sense going in blind...

...but the challenge was half the fun, sometimes. "Though we could try it, if you'd like. Your strategy against mine." He offered, his tone suddenly smooth as he lifted his chin to eye her. They'd see, then, if hiding and calculating could overcome an opponent that didn't believe in quitting.

Mulling this justification over, Linarite found it satisfactory and nodded. Obviously this was an acceptable instance of beat it until it died! "At least you understand that. It kinda blows, having to hack at things myself. I'm not really designed for it. In my head I can knock 'em all down with mild effort, but in reality? In reality I'm a short girl with scrawny arms."

She flexed jokingly for him. "Not a problem you worry much about, eh? No, I think you'd beat me outright. Brawns and brain overcome my simple advantage. Some other time maybe, but I think the result will be the same." It was a graceful way to back out of something that would be painful and embarrassing.

He was faster, taller, larger, and a man. No, it didn't take an idiot to figure out who would win THAT little contest. Changing the subject, she looked back up at the redheaded lieutenant. "How many of us do you know, anyway?"

Not going to rise to the bait? Clever girl; even if he couldn't have kicked her a**, it was still reassuring to know that not all of the Negaverse was composed of idiots like Hematite. "Supposedly that'll change with time." Came the drawl, but the man rolled his eyes a little as though to suggest he hadn't seen anything promising yet. "So long as you stay smart, that's all that matters." He'd wink at her, then seemed to mull over her question.

"I know of most of you. Personally, I've only cared to associate with you, Nealite, and Hermaphrodite so far." The slur on the latter was said completely serious; he had no qualms with letting his true feelings show about the punk. "So you've met Nealite, Caine, and the General-King himself, it sounds like... Any others?" Obsidian quirked a curious brow, stretching a little as he relaxed.

"Stay smart? I'm always smart! No other reason to keep me in the business, you know?" The smile was quick and bright, a genuine display of happiness at her mental worth. Though it was heavily evident, as shown in her earlier comment, the physical aspect of their job was almost entirely alien. Had it not been for her gamer affliction, she'd have absolutely no idea how to use a weapon.

Sitting back on her hands, Linarite looked out over the city as she mulled through the name 'Hermaphrodite'. It was truly an unfortunate naming, who'd given the poor person that one? She felt bad for them. "No, I have to say you're the newest. Certainly the best conversationalist so far. I'm sorry though, at the moment that is not too huge of a compliment. Caine rarely talks, the General-King gives orders, and Nealite is a harridan."

Ooh. Big word. She doubted he'd be impressed.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 25, 2009 10:18 am

The man snorted a little at the admittance, not sure whether to be amused or what. "Everyone's gotta learn sometime." He finally settled for, yawning before he took his eyes from the bluenette to scan the city almost idly below. Busy night tonight, or so he hoped. Nothing better than having a selection to pick from.

"I'll be flattered anyway." He crooned, meeting her eye again if only to offer a wink. "A harridan, huh?" Big word indeed. He wondered briefly if Nealite would even knew what it meant. Even if she didn't, he would bet money she'd assume it was something nasty and react just as violently. "I'll be sure to tell her that the next time I see her." He mused almost to himself, rolling his shoulders a little. He was starting to get restless; he was normally a better conversationalist than this, but sometimes...

...well, sometimes the job took precedence.

The amusement he did show, however, made Linarite's ego feel a bit better about itself. It was a nice little bump that it sorely needed, and the smile flashed again. "I'm sure I'll pick it up at some point. Hopefully before a crucial moment. Can't ambush people for seeds forever. One day they'll fight back." That day made her nervous. The senshi were bad enough, but when the targets fought? Intolerable.

The smile's edges sharpened into something more than a little mean. "I'd love if you told her I said that. Be sure to stand back a bit, I'm sure she'll absolutely explode. You know what they say about gingers! All that bottled emotion." She'd really quite be willing to pay to see that explosion.

Shaking her head slowly, she stood and held out her hand cordially. "Well Obsidan, thanks for sharing the view with me. If I'm gone too long, they'll probably miss me." He was looking edgy, and she wasn't entirely sure he was all that inclined to remain friendly. "Maybe we'll meet again soon."
