The leaves had been falling for quite some time now, drifting through the air like natures dancers as they twisted in invisible currents, the air was chilly despite the sun and the sky was that crisp blue colored that only seemed to come out at this time of year - just a little crisper..and a little bluer then normal.

It was Cas's favorite time of year, when the grass was crunchy with frost in the morning and your breath could be seen in small puffs at the edge of daylight. It wasn't quite cool enough to be uncomfortable yet...but just chilly enough to provoke a need for closeness in the ladies, they wanted to snuggle..they wanted to be warm, and Cas for the most part was generally willing to provide for such a need.

Humming a jaunty tune and picking up his knees in a sassy gait the painted bay moved across the plains in search of just such a conquest, his vivid blue eyes (which he often found the ladies liked) roved across the surrounding area in much the manner of a predator seeking prey - and in a way such a comparison was true...although Cas liked to think that his predatory actions had a far happier ending then mot predator/prey relationships - after all who didn't like to feel cared for for a little while - even if it never turned out to be a permanent fixture in their lives?

On such vivid and splendid days Spook could not help but feel the urge to explore any and every place her hooves carried her to. Perhaps today her innermost desires sought to take in the beauty of the wild flowers from the meadow, for she knew they would soon wilt away with the coming cold. Or perhaps, for reasons only known to her, Spook wished to gaze upon the rapid rivers as they sent chills and thrills down her spine. But then, not even the mare these possible desires belonged to knew which way she was wandering at the moment, and needn't care at that. Surely, be it flower, rapid, or some other slendor, Spook was happy just to travel and explore.

Switching her brisk walk to a smooth, rolling lope happened to strike her fancy at the moment, and Spook had no mind to question the desire. One quick rock forward and a toss of her head was all she needed to obey said desire, and soon enough the flaxen-maned mare set herself to the new gait.

As she traveled this way and the wind hastened its assult against her nostrils, she couldn't help but notice the scent of someone nearby. Where? She didn't know. Who? She certainly didn't know. But did she honestly care? Well, now that was a loaded question. Spook didn't rightfully care if the scent belonged to a stranger, but she was certainly not anti-social. This in mind, it was no surprise when the spirited mare's ears flicked and pricked in an attempt to catch any stray sounds that would give away the individual's position, without actively having to look for them. Subtlety had always been one of her more favorite practices.

It hadn't seemed to Cas that he had traveled very far at all before the rhythmically drumming of approaching hoofbeats told alerted the blue eyed beast to the nearness of another. Skidding to a stop the painted steed pricked his ears and with flaring nostrils attempted to get a better idea of who it could be - certainly no one he knew, the beast was a rover and rarely stayed in one place long enough to make lasting friendships.

Unfortunately for Cas the wind was not on his side this morning and no telltale scent could be detected. Well...all was not lost the paint steed thought to himself - it merely meant he wouldn't have any previous knowledge and well if it turned out to be someone he didn't wish to speak with he could just trot on past - no harm,no foul.

Adjusting his path so that it would intersect with that of the approaching Equine Cas topped a hill to see the approaching form of a four stocking chestnut with a rather striking bald face, and unless he was gravely mistaken - something which didn't happen often, Cass was also quite certain that it was indeed a mare.

How lovely! Blue eyes flashing the tri-colored stallion made his way down the hill at a smart pace, a pleasant expression adorning his facade as he came closer. "Why it seems the wind has endeavored to blow to me a gift of company" He voiced with a slight chuckle as he drew close enough for such things. His tone was light and airy as though the beast simply couldn't be more pleased with the thought of a few moments quiet conversation with a new face.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 15, 2009 3:58 pm

Soon enough, the strange scent hurtled itself closer and became more distinct, and with it, a view of a rather unique looking equine. After all, Spook didn't see quite that kind of coat too often, and the ones she had seen before certainly didn't have three colors to it. One thing was for certain though, Spook absolutely adored pintos. Call it her personal and secret attraction. Something about the splatches of white made a coat more appealing to the flaxen-maned mare.

And so, as the stranger made his way closer to her, Spook unknowingly set her pace to a more ambitious gait. "Yet it is you who is traveling with the wind. So wouldn't you have been blown to me, instead?" Something about his voice and the pleasantness of his demeanor roused the mare's spirits, as she came to an abrupt but easy halt near the stallion. Yellow eyes couldn't have helped but take in his form as he traveled nearer, but now they had the curious pleasure of spying tri-colored's blue eyes. Either way she looked at it- him, rather -he was a pleasing sight and friendly. As Spook had learned many times, the profit fairly outweighed the loses when talking to strangers. Sure you got some of the bad ones everyone once in awhile, but most folk were good conversation a lot of the times.

With a p***k of her ears, and interest, the yellow-eyed mare settled into a tall yet somehow girl'ish stance. "My name's Spook, may I ask your name?" She was dying to know, after all.

HA! Cas thought, his eyes shining with inner amusement at her comment, wasn't she just the spirited one! Looking around as though to deduce the validity of her statement he gave a slight snort as though clearly astonished at the findings and gave her a slight wink. "Aye!, so it would seem - well then I expect I should thank the wind for steering me towards such a lovely recipient" The stallion corrected himself in a voice tinged with amusement.

Her pretty little stance was not lost on the steed as he took in her form now that they were closer, he had always been rather fond of flaxen manes and tails - just added a little extra something to a mares looks in his opinion. Spook..was an interesting name and the beast wondered for a few moments if she had been a skittish foal or merely high spirited for her sire and dam to name her thus, that however was a conversation for a later time and he would revisit it should the conversation become awkward at some point. "Well it was clearly natures intention that we meet Spook" he continued referring once more to the blowing wind which he supposed may become somewhat of a private joke "My parents dubbed me with the rather large mouthful of Casanova..but many elect to simply call me Cas"

Spook couldn't help but flare her nostrils in amusement at the stallion's silly display of what you could really be called 'Oh really? I didn't notice... coughcough'. Luckily for him, such a stunt merely added to his growing charm. Oh boy, did her hooves lead her in the right place today! This certainly promised to be a fun, and if nothing else interesting, encounter. Such thoughts were easily shown in her demeanor as the flaxen shifted her weight from one hoof to another, as if caught undecided on which one she should be leaning on.

"Then I suppose it is, and truly it is unwise to go against the wishes of nature." Yup, totally unwise, the mare thought to herself. Eagerly she listened for the tri-colored's name, and was rewarded with it shortly. "Casanova?" she tried it out, rolling the name over her tongue. In which, she had to give a small snort and bob of her head, displacing her forelock from its orginal position and tossing it to one side of her face. "I think I'd perfer to go with the shortened version, Cas," she decided aloud, as if giving him some warning was absolutely polite. Wait. Since when did she care about manners?

"And what, before the wind interrupted your day to carry you in this direction, have you been up to?" Or you know, 'what do you like to do?' 'are there any cool interests do you have?', and 'who are you seeing these days?' might be more suitable if the flaxen wasn't already caught up in trying to ease herself out of feeling giddy for lack of a better word.

Quite obviously, Spook was a rather young mare with very little to no experiance with stallions of Cas' caliber: the smooth-talking, handsome, 'I want to be your friend' type of stallion. If she had been older and perhaps wiser to these sorts of ways, its possible she would have been able to look past them, but as it is, Spook was inexperianced in this sort of thing and was easily swept up with her own giddiness.

Cas was secretly quite pleased with himself as the mares shifting weight to and fro - a clear sign of well for lack of a better work at the moment - excitement. Clearly he'd made a good first impression and Cas had long ago learned that first impressions were very important. It was easier with younger mares, they hadn't the life experience to see past pretty words and friendly demeanors, not that Cas didn't mean what he said - he most certainly did, he just wasn't ready to lavish such praise on only one particular mare...which is what most seemed to want. Cas was just out for a fun, and honestly - it wasn't like his company was completely terrible, so to his mind it was a win-win situation.

Spook was clearly one of these younger mares, no former baggage of foals or long lost loves weighed down her eyes or her spirit, no jaded outlook on stallions tinged their conversation and Cas found himself more then a little pleased by this fact - overcoming such obstacles did tend to take the fun out things.

"Such previous endeavors are hardly as pleasing as your company" the tri-colored creature spoke, letting the statement roll off his tongue in a silky voice, it was after all important to let them know their company was far more important then whatever it was you have been doing before - Mare's enjoyed being the center of ones attention. Of course it wouldn't do to seem evasive either and after assuring the mare that she was more important he continued. "I was merely pondering a walk to the nearest watering hole - perhaps you would care to join me?" He invited with a gentlemanly motion of his head.

Oh? Spook thought, that's certainly good to hear. At least he seemed to think she was interesting, and pleasing in his words. Spook really couldn't have seen that going a different way, after all wasn't their conversation nice thus far? Cleary so. "I assure you Cas, your company is enjoyed as well." That's for certain. That helped to raise her comfort level, and not wanting to abandon company just yet, the flaxen maned mare pricked her ears at his invitation. "That would be wonderful", she agreed easily, stepping forward just slightly. Did it just get colder or something? Yeah, she was going to go with that excuse.

The young mare, although eager to spend time with this new hunk of stallion, was also very curious about him and who he was. Of course it wasn't a very pressing matter at the moment, as she was certain to keep enjoying his company no matter what. After all, most negative things tended to roll over the mare without a twinge of care on her part. That just how she was; prepared to look past any issue, if it meant spending a longer time in someone's company. And she certainly wanted to stay in Cas' company for the time being.

Cas gave the mare a pleased look as she not only agreed to his invitation but took a few steps closer as well, things this far were going to well that Cas decided to take a tiny bit of a chance and brush his shoulder against her ever so gently as he started out for the watering hole.
He figured this was a safe enough risk to take, after all if she seemed upset by it he could always apologize, those sort of things happened from time to time after all.

By this time the sun had risen a bit further in the sky and its warm rays were a welcome contrast to the cool air blown about by the wind, it was the type of weather which alternately made you shiver...and then bask in the sun's warmth within a few moments of each other. In other words it seemed to Cas like a wonderful morning for a walk and he decided to express this to his companion as they strolled along. "Wonderful day for a walk in good company don't you agree?" He asked her to break the small silence that had settled over them as they walked along. It seemed like a good time to perhaps revisit other topics of conversation, and perhaps find out some other information about her. "So, Spook have been around here long? Have any family in the area?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 21, 2009 7:43 am

A shiver, if you could call it that, traveled through her hide at the contact with Cas' shoulder. Or perhaps it had been the wind? Spook rightfully couldn't tell which the offender was, but she felt inclined to think that perhaps it was a bit of both. After all, she hadn't expected neither of them at the time. Now that wasn't a problem. Not in the slightest. Besides said shiver, her only outward reaction was a bob of her head as she readjusted her direction to follow Casanova, keeping pace evenly, but with a stride and step that nearly jolted with energy. The young mare had a way of doing that, for she was very athletic mustang, and most often than not was involved in some sort of activity. To say the least, she knew how to put energy in her stride without breaking for a faster pace.

"I very much agree, and I fear this weather will not last much longer. Its definatly getting colder as the weeks go on." Unfortunately that meant winter was close upon their heels, and the harshness of trying to find food or shelter in that time would be quite unbearable. This would be the third winter Spook ever experianced, but she had already grown to dislike the season in her short life. Oh well, she just have to look past it, for the up-coming spring season would finally bring her into her fourth year of life, an 'important time for any mare' her mother had told her. Whatever that meant.

An flicked automatically to the sound of Cas' voice, and Spook gladly took up the conversation he brought up. "Not too long, I'm usually in a different place at least every couple of days. I prefer to travel around, as I feel there's too much to see or do to just stay in one place for so long." And wasn't that true, hadn't she just been on her way to the rapids? Yes, but that could wait, she was glad to head to the watering hole with her new, and rather handsome companion for the time being. "As for family, my mother is a part of one of the herds that stay near the open range. I make a point not to visit her too often on the grounds that she's a worry wort and always seems to think I've been getting myself into trouble." Spook gave a good-natured snort at that part, whether or not it was true, she didn't like hearing her mother's lectures everytime she visited her. "How about yourself? Any family so to speak of?"

"Alas, such is the way of nature, she's a fickle beast..teasing us with such wonderful weather before the snows, or perhaps she is wise in promising us the beauty of spring afterwards so that we feel inclined to keep trudging through the bad months" Cas responded with a slight shake of his mane before turning his blue gaze back upon the mare. Cas it seemed was not just looks with no brains. The little shiver she had given earlier has not escaped his notice and he was looking rather pleased with himself when he looked upon her again.

In contrast to the mares sprightly energetic gait Cas's own strides were long and rolling, smooth and seeming to embody a confidence that implied the tri-colored creature always knew exactly where he was going and what it was he wanted. This was not always true, but Cas never admitted to it being false. Right now he told himself - he wished to spend some more time with the pretty little mare, and thats precisely what he planned to do."So...you are a rambling rose then" He commented with a slight quirk of his muzzle "growing wild and untamed across the plains despite any attempts to hold you back" he concluded in a silky voice and a twinkle in his vivid blue eyes.

"It is a good trait, why live in such a world as this if one never gets to see it?" He continued after a few moments to let her digest the compliments "I tend to wander as well, my family lives a fair ways off - I confess I haven't seen them in quite a while no doubt I have a few siblings by now" The stallion chuckled slightly "although I'm sure that like your's my mother would have a few choice words to say on my wandering - settle down she would tell me, find a nice herd, perhaps someday hmm?"

In all honesty the paint steed had no intentions of settling down - certainly not anytime soon and later? well maybe when he was too old and decrepit to live on his own. Spook of course didn't need to know something like that - most mares found that sort of off putting for some reason or another.

Oh my, Spook certainly wasn't ready for this little piece to enjoy. Sure, he was handsome and friendly, and that had certainly been enough for her to simply adore him. But he was also smooth and poetic with his words? The mare was lucky not to faulter in her step, but could not keep the rather delighted look off her face. As far as good company went, Spook couldn't be happier with the stallion Casanova. I mean come on. He had a striking paint coat, an open enough attitude, and he knew his way around words to make the slightest things sound... oh goodness, she was getting ahead of herself. At that time he had only been speaking of 'mother nature', what was she to do now that he turned that smooth and flattering voice her way?

What any young mare would do of course; take the compliment without any further second-guessing. "When you put it that way, I suppose I am like a rambling rose", she said with a hint of laughter, not even once thinking to compare herself to something such as that. Ahem, back on subject, she mentally tried to focus herself. Spook usually wasn't one to get her head up in the clouds like this, really. Honestly. "Indeed, and there's no point in living here without getting to see it whenever you chose. I for one will be sad to see the wild flowers go after the first frosts of the season, but at least they'll be coming back in spring."

The mare flicked, perked, and then settled their attention towards Cas as he spoke of his own mother, and per chance, siblings. "I know for certain I have a little brother, but I've only met him once, and that was several full seasons ago. To be honest, I really didn't know what to think about him..." Now that had been a weird encounter. What was she suppose to think about something like that? And had her brother been sired by her father, or a different stallion? Maybe that was something to look into on her next visit to her mother's side, Spook was quite curious about it now.

Still she had to snicker slightly at Cas's 'impression' of his mother's words, if you could even call it that. "Almost the same thing my mother would tell me. Scary, huh?" Although it wasn't exactly like that. Her mother had wanted her to stay in that herd with her, and find a nice young stallion to pair off with. Urk, life-mating, she didn't understand her mother's desire to find her a sutible 'mate'. Why settle for just one stallion when you can have another all of your own choosing at any time you wanted? Certainly, that's one of the reasons Spook was so apt to leave. Not that she'd tell her handsome companion that secret, not at all.

Cass did not miss the delighted look on Spook's face after he spoke - and while he wasn't sure if it was because of the compliment he had paid her or the flowery words he'd used to describe the coming winter (Something he had learned most mares enjoyed), the painted stallion decided the cause of said delight wasn't really all that important. The important fact was that she was indeed delighted.

"Perhaps it is a shame, but winter hold beauty's all it's own - icicles hanging from swinging branches, and glistening untouched snow" The stallion spoke making sure to add a wistful tone to his voice before he turned his head slightly to gaze at her more squarely and add with a slight chuckle "And I dare say...the snow is rather fun to romp about in" Couldn't have her thinking he was all poetic seriousness after all - that would be stuffy, no one liked a stuffy horse, at leas not if they were stuffy all the time.

Since Spook seemed a bit hesitant on the little brother issue Cass decided not to follow that train of conversation for the moment - they could perhaps revisit it later. "I think in the end most mothers are allot alike, at least in those subjects - and I think should we look back into their pasts we would find that at some point they were much like us...and their mothers were nagging at them"

Thier conversation and footsteps had led the two ever closer to the watering hole, Cass could see the swaying long grasses that surrounded the pond just up ahead and the rising sun had made it a suitably fine day. "It's a pity" He remarked with a wry grin "that it wasn't earlier in the year - I would have enjoyed a nice swim. Might be a tad chilly now however"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 14, 2009 8:37 am

Oh gods above was he right. Icicles certainly were beautiful to look at, but one should never stick a wet tongue onto them to lick at it. Spook had personally never done such a thing, but when in the company of other horses most of the time, you were bound to watch one give an icicle a nice wet lick. If you were smart, you learned from that horse's mistake, just as Spook had.

"Oh! Of course. Even though the wild flowers would be gone, I admit a good romp and run through the snow is fun." As she said this, the flaxen maned mare raised her knees and gave a playful arch of her neck as she pranced a few steps ahead of Cass, before calming down once more to slow and walk by his side once more. It was very obvious that the young mare was in high spirits, and definatly did not find his company objectable in any way or fashion.

Training her ears once more to the stallion's voice and Spook gave a light, bemused snort. "More than likely, but I suppose that depends on whether or not they listened to their parent's in the first place. Perhaps we're just rebels they have no idea what to do with", Spook returned, tacking on a little ideology her mother said to her more than a few times. Oh-ho, that was amusing.

In their conversation she hadn't quite spied how close they were getting to the pond just yet, but she could begin to smell the hint of water in the air. Yellow eyes flashed forward momentarily and Spook pricked her ears in its direction before turning a wide grin to Cass and his comment. "Probably. I wouldn't go rolling in a cold pond, but I bet it'll still feel good around my legs." Or you know, all over your hide when I splash you.

"It was certainly one of my favorite activities as a foal" The stallion remarked in a fond tone, letting his voice imply that he had some fond foal hood memories to reflect upon. Honestly even though it wasn't all that back for the young stallion Cass couldn't really remember to many details of his life as a foal..it had been average and quite dull as far as h was concerned. But he'd come to see that most mare tended to react well to a stallion with a happy foalhood - no one wanted to deal with a morose, trama carrying beast after all.

Well..unless they were the overly mothering nurturing type, then acting wounded did work...but those types got annoying quick, and Spook certainly didn't seem to be that type of mare. Thank the sun.

What she did seem to be was a young high-spirited mare, and while this slow stroll had allowed him to get to know her a bit - and drop enough compliments to make her like him - it probably wasn't her idea of a perfect time, as evidenced by her prancing steps...though he had to admit he wasn't going to complain about her pretty little arched neck any. "Well if we are to be rebels..." The stallion stated with an impish look on his face, allowing the comment to trail off for a few moments before continuing "Then it hardly seems suitable that we stroll along in such a stately fashion" He concluded "Last one there has to roll in the cold pond!" He finally challenged with a wiggle of his eyebrows before bolting forward.

He had a feeling the mare would win, and really he'd let her anyways, but he had a feeling she would appreciate a bit of good fun and Cass...was willing to do anything to get on the good side of a mare. Even roll in a cold pond.
