(( This RP takes place not long after Mwako's encounter with Chui'nytoa, so somewhere between the RPs for weeks 3 & 4, noted more for my sake than anyone elses. XD; ))

He hadn't yet gone to see Shwari; something that he was certain he would regret the moment he returned to her. She would worry that he'd been gone for so long. She would worry that he, like their queen, would not return... And yet he waited, his mind too distracted with other thoughts.

She had been young, the lioness that he had fought against. Fight, no, it had been little more than a spar; a training session meant to teach and errant child a lesson. Was this what the other skirmishes between the Dhati and the Mizimu had been like prior to his own? Would this be what they continued to be like?

No. No, it wouldn't be. Having lived amongst the Mizimu for the better part of his life he knew that much. There would be a price to pay. There would be retribution. There would be blood. There would be war.

He closed his eyes, trying to clear the thought of the limp lioness lying beneath his paw from his mind. An enemy was an enemy, but... What if that lioness would have been Shwari? What if the he had been the enemy? Would they have shown her the mercy that he had shown the nameless female? Or would they have simply sacrificed her right there for her transgressions?

"Please, no..." Not realizing that he'd spoken aloud at first he opened his eyes, glancing around for the source of the voice before it settled as being familiar; his own. "My beliefs aren't faltering. I still believe that you're on our side; that this is what you want us to do, Spirits... We fight for the lives of those whose lives were given without need. It wasn't to appease you. How could you make such demands?"

He pushed himself up so that he could begin pacing, gathering his thoughts before speaking again. "You are on our side. We have your blessing or we wouldn't have been able to come this far. Please, continue blessing us. Guide us..."

It wasn't often that she traveled outside the mountainous homes of the other Gods or outside the security of the pride she believed to be her own but something here had called out to her. It was an odd place to be hearing a voice from and she couldn't help but go see what it was. Who from there could be calling to her? They didn't believe in things like her.

So curiosity peeked but fears still firmly in place she wandered the outskirts of the area looking for the voice. It surprised her slightly when she found it. A male talking to himself, asking for her guidance.

Letting her glamor fade so she was no longer invisible to the mortals she tilted her head slightly. "Have you never heard that my favor is as fleeting as the breeze?"

He felt the fur on his back prickle to attention before he heard her voice; a voice that he wasn't likely to forget no matter what age he lived to be. As a warrior, speaking to the spirits was something better left to others, yet as he turned to view the source of the voice he knew, if only for a moment, that he'd been heard.

"I..." For the first time in many years he found himself momentarily speechless, awestruck by the beauty before him. Her dark coat marked with the colors of strength and courage... Yes, she certainly was one of the Greater Spirits, and here she was, speaking to him. "I have heard often that it is a struggle to maintain the favor of the Spirits, and yet our entire lives are dedicated to trying... Often even our deaths are for that purpose. We are brought up to live our lives in a manner that pleases you... And we're trying so hard now to right the wrongs against you."

Her wings rustled slightly as she tucked them against her sides, the little dice on her paws clinking together as she moved. She had never visited those of this pride and for good reason. They didn't believe in ones like her in the true sense and they seemed to be the violent sort that she tried to avoid at all cost.

This one seemed a bit different though. Something in his voice. "It is not a struggle depending on which spirit you wish to speak to." She knew there were some out there, or there were bound to be some, that would give their favor easily. "Death is never something i would ask ...." She couldn't think of asking mortals to kill themselves for her. "Death does not bring my favor." She shook her head and stopped as she let the last of his words sink in. Right the wrongs against her? He couldn't have any idea of her fears could he?

'Death is never something I would ask... Death does not bring my favor.' Orange eyes gleamed, going wide as her words hit ears that had been waiting to hear them from someone other than the Dhati's leader. When he had first made the decision to follow after Magadi'Afya it had been to save Shwari from a certain death. He would have done anything to see her live out the rest of her days... And now?

"We knew it..." He murmured softly, as an awed child who had just had something wondrous revealed to him would. "We've been trying to tell them that you wouldn't ask for the lives of those we love just to please you. Jini... She's been lying to everyone. Always with the sacrifices to please the Spirits... It would have been my sister someday that would have been next."

She knew that there were gods who would love the idea of deaths in her name but after seeing the look on the male's face she could not bring herself to tell him that. He seemed to believe something had been done for the wrong reasons and it was not her place to meddle in whatever was going on here. "No ... i would not." That was truth at least. -She- would never ask for death.

"Life is far better ... give life and things will prosper. Feed the future with new possibilities and an endless stream of good things will come to you, whether you know they are good or not" She knew that some things she set before mortals did not become apparently good until after they were done.

He seemed bright and youthful for a moment as he listened to her, shoulders falling only as reality came back to him. Speaking with the Spirits was all well and good, but there was still trouble ahead waiting for them. "We are at war now because of the 'messages' that have been brought by false Spirits. I was trained as a warrior to uphold the beliefs of my pride; a pride that I now stand against because of a Queen's lies. I want life, not just for myself but for those I love..." Shwari. He wanted his sister to live on forever, or at least until long after he'd left the world. If she died all of his efforts would have been for nothing.

"i hate fighting..." her ears fell slightly. She always hated the idea of wars and that there had to be fighting between some. It just didn't seem like it was the right way to go about things. It happened and probably always would but she didn't have to like it.

"Everyone wants those we love to thrive ..." she thought for a moment of her favorite pride and the struggle they had. "War leads to much pain, the loss of loved ones ...

Listening to her, watching her, his heart ached. Had he displeased this Great Spirit? Would she ask for his life in turn for doing so? No, she had already said that she did not claim lives... But if the Greater Spirits were any bit as fickle as the others, would her mind change?

He pushed himself back up onto all fours, taking a slow step towards her in hopes that she wouldn't vanish if he moved closer. "Do you have those that you love?" It was a foolish question, of course; one that he was certain he already knew the answers to. Spirits always watched over those that they loved... Why wouldn't the Greater Spirits do the same?

"I do ... but they are a long way from here." She nodded slightly. She shook a paw slightly to straighten out the bone dice around her wrist before setting her foot back down. "They have troubles of their own. Recovery from a war that not many survived. One caused by ambition and lies ...." She wanted to give them favor again and was trying. She just felt so alone with him here ....

"You fight to protect those you love?" She peered at him through the fall of braids over one eye.

"I do." He nodded in return, seeing no reason to lie to her in his moment of weakness; a moment of trust that at any other time he would be chastising himself for. "I fight so that my sister might have a chance at a life that would be taken from her, will be taken from her, if we weren't fighting. All we're looking for... Is hope." Victory as well, but hope was what drove them, just as the knowledge that they were right would now drive him.

"Hope is a powerful thing." She smiled slightly. She knew that the Mzawa survived because of hope. She knew that the older ones brought new life because of hope for the future. She hoped that one day she would be reunited with her love.

"Your sister must be very special to you."

He thought on the great understatement of the Greater Spirit's words, knowing well enough that there were no amount of 'very's that could be added in to say just how much Shwari meant to him. Shwari was everything; enough that he'd forsaken all that he'd known and believed just to have more days by her side. "Hope and faith have gotten us this far... Now we must rely on our strength."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 14, 2009 3:48 pm

"Faith and hope often go hand in hand with strength." She smiled softly as she looked at him again. "They can give you greater strength .... and lacking them can make your strength weaken."

She had seen the lack of faith in things be the downfall of others. Often they blamed her for it too. "Do you believe yourself to be strong?"

"I would not be standing here if I was not strong." It had taken much strength to get to the position that he had once held and, even now, his strength had carried him onward. His strength supported the Dhati and his strength defended Shwari. "Yes, I believe myself to be strong."
