The local mall in Destiny City was, as usual, packed with people. People could be seen walking every which way. Girls chatted with their friends at their sides or on their cellphones. Boyfriends trailed along behind, some of which with the unfortunate task of carrying bags. Bags; Skip had never seen guys carry so many of them. Mentally praying that he would never be in a similar situation, he shuddered at the thought. Kids could also be seen playing in the indoor playground that had been set up for them with their moms watching over them like mother hens. And the food court - well...that was the center for couples. Truth be told, this was one of the places Skip avoided like the plague. He hated the mall. Today, however, he was there for an entirely different reason.

It was at the Destiny City Mall that Jackson Parker would be meeting up with Karmilita Fauxtiev.

The arrangement had been set up the other day, after Skip asked if Karmi had wanted to get together outside of school and the track. There was no way in hell that this would be a spur of the moment meeting. Spur of the moment things were annoying. Why do something at the last minute, unsure of what is completely going on, when you can just plan ahead? So there the baseball player stood, casually waiting, in front of the grand fountain in the middle of the mall like he had told Karmi.

'I hope she gets here soon,' he thought to himself, sliding his signature sunglasses up to rest on his head. 'Being at the mall alone is rather intimidating...' Instinctively, a hand slipped into the pocket of his coat. Okay, good. It was still here. Unknown to his jogging buddy, Skip had picked up a gift for her shortly after he arrived. He couldn't wait to see her reaction when he pulled it out. 'But please,' he continued to think, 'oh, please! Let it be a positive one.' If it was anything but then the entire meeting would be a disaster, and that was the last thing he wanted!

Hurriedly, Karmi made her way to the mall. Past few days had kept her in a jinx and today was no exception. Her feet pounded on the sidewalk as she finally reached the large entrance to the city mall. Naturally, it was full to the brim with people. There was only one person Karmi was looking for though as she entered the large glass doors.

It had come as a shock that Skip wanted to hang out outside of the school setting. After it had come up, she smiled and nodded in agreement. Feeling rather lonely as of late, she wanted to attempt to get closer to some of her schoolmates and have a true circle of friends. Having friends was one of her needs, without them she felt lost, lonely and not her usual, cheery self. Skip was just the kind of friend she had been waiting to make. The two had a lot in common; from their colored hair to their athlete hobbies.

He said by the large fountain, correct? She thought, walking through the crowded entry area of the mall. Screaming children could be heard from the play area and there was a distinct chatter of teenage girls on cellphones. Karmi loved her cellphone to death, but refused to have her ear cemented to it like many of her female peers. Digging her hand into her skirt pocket, she wrapped her hand around her phone and felt the small strap connected to it, making sure it hadn't fallen off.

Knowing her current luck, she would lose it by the end of the day. Lately it had been the case; one bad thing after another. Today she felt that luck would change with a friendly visit to the mall. Looking around cautiously, she noticed Skip leaning up against the fountain. Shining of his sunglasses gave him away in an instant.

"Hey Skip!" she called, running over to him. Nothing will go wrong, I'm just paranoid. She thought, stopping close to him.

Skip didn't even have to guess who was calling out to him. It was obvious right away. Karmi had arrived! With a casual flick of his hand and a nod of his head he acknowledged her, his hand slipping out of his pocket. The gift would have to wait until a little later. If he gave it to her right away, then there wouldn't exactly be much to look forward to later.

"Hey, Karmi," he said with a smile, "how are you?"

This was actually quite nice; seeing someone outside of school. It wasn't often that he hung out with his school friends like this. Sure, maybe he'd hang with some of his fellow teammates after a baseball game one day, but it was never like this. Never just for fun. Karmi, it seemed, had given his life a refreshing change of pace - definitely something he could get used to.

Karmi truly appreciated Skip's style. He was so casual, even when the circumstances should call for an awkward moment. An ability that not even Karmi held. She enjoyed that about him and knew that it would make for a fun time at the mall.

"Doing great! How are you?" she said with enthusiasm, stretching her arms in front of her and cracking her fingers back into place. Popping sounds gave way to a happy sigh and she looked back at Skip. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long." she said, hopeful that he wouldn't bother in asking why she had been late. Although it was typical that her brother, Gian, would cause problems, she didn't feel like going into how he was using her shoes to prop up his overheating Xbox and the argument that ensued.

Karmi stood nervously for a moment. This was one of the few times she had gotten to hang out with someone in a while, so long in fact that she was unsure on what to actually do. "So what do you think we should do first?" she asked, her feet tapping on the ground slightly in anticipation.

"Well! I'm doing well. Thanks for asking."

As Skip spoke, his eyes casually examined over the various things in the mall. Obviously, there were an abundance of stores the two of them could check out and explore. A multitude of opportunities awaited them in those; pranks would be limitless. Yet, having thought that, the baseball player wasn't really in the mood to wreak havoc. Today was just about having fun with Karmi and spending time with her. It was then that his eyes fell on it - the perfect thing: a photo booth.

"How about that," he suggested, raising a hand to point off in the distance. "It could be fun." Skip gazed at the photo booth and grinned. He loved those things, especially when you could take the black and white strip photos like they did in the old days. There was another plus to the photo booth idea, too. Not only would it be something fun for them to do, but it would give both Karmi and Skip a little momento of their time together.

Before he even knew what he was doing, one of his hands had gently wrapped around Karmi's, and he gave her a gentle, friendly tug. "What do you say? It'll be my treat!"

A photo booth. Karmi hadn't been inside one in ages. The last time she had been in one was with her younger brother. Needless to say, but it ended in yet another Gian disaster. A grin upturned the corners of her mouth. But this time Gian isn't around. She hoped that the photo booth had a black and white feature. Black and white photos made the memory seem more... memorable. That way when she looked back when she was in her old age she could pick out the picture and know exactly what it was about.

Her hand grasped onto Skip's and she walked forward with him. Faintly blushing, she moved her grin in his direction. "I'd love to! Especially if it's got a black and white function." she laughed, "But after this I get to treat you to a game of laser tag at the new place."

She preferred they take the picture before anything got too heavy. The last thing she wanted was to have a picture floating around where she was sweaty from chasing around the quite fast baseball player around the laser tag arena. Who would want a picture of that aftermath? Ideas of what to come and the looming picture excited her and chased the laser tag idea back into the depths of her mind. She happily bounded over to the booth with him.

"You want to get in first or me?" she said, moving the curtain of the booth aside. She noticed there was a small bench to sit on. "Just enough room!" she exclaimed, hopping excitedly.

Oh, this was going to be fun! So much fun. Just the thought of taking the old-time photos made him happy. He hadn't taken them in a long time, and Karmi would be the first girl in high school that he had ever gotten them done with. Well, there was always a first time for everything, wasn't there? He was just glad that it was Karmi he was doing it with, instead of someone else he was not as friendly with.

Ushering her in, he then took hold of the curtain for her, "Ladies first."

She was going to treat him? That was nice, but to a game of laser tag? A game of laser tag totally didn't equal a strip of photo booth pictures; not in the slightest. There was no way he was going to let her get away with treating him to something as pricey as that. "Laser tag sounds great," Skip admitted as he waited for her to get into the booth. "Though, I'm not letting you treat me to it just for these pictures. Pictures at a photo booth and a game of laser tag don't cancel each other out, so I'll treat you to dinner, too. You get to pick the place, though, of course."

There. That seemed like a fair trade. Photobooth pictures, laser tag, and dinner. It was perfect! Dinner would also be a great time for Skip to give Karmi her gift. She would definitely be surprised to receive it then, totally not suspecting it coming.

Karmi laughed as she slid over into the photo booth and took her seat. "Alright, alright." she said, blushing slightly. Dinner? No one, let alone a boy from school, had treated her to dinner before. Well, aside from her parents, but she felt that was no comparison. "We might have a war on who treats who going on." she said with a giggle.

Money wasn't any concern. She only wished for Skip to have a fun time with her. It had been a long while she had done anything outside of school that didn't involve running or buying new straps for her collection. Hanging out had been something she'd been missing. Skip was a fun guy to hang out with, not to mention one of the nicest guys from one of the teams she had a chance to actually talk to one on one.

A small pink glow was always abundant when she was around him though. Once the mention of dinner was out, she couldn't stop herself from blushing. She wasn't quite sure of the meaning, but she really did enjoy her time when she was around him. "Dinner decisions will have to wait. I think this menu screen might have a heart attack if we don't press the buttons." Giggling again, she patted the bench near her. "Swear I don't bite."
