Szad's mouth opened fully and his tongue stretched out. He gave a loud, and long yawn. It almost looked like one of a lion. His eyes fluttered. The day had been long. Running into all those mustangs in that clearing had tired him out mentally. His head hung loosely and bobbed when his hooves walked over a bump. He traveled through the large forest with a slow walk. He was not afraid of any predators or violent mustangs, he knew that his size would keep them at bay. He was strong, yes, but he was too gentle and kind to ever use it to injure or hurt others. He let out another yawn. Sleep, I should sleep... he told himself. He opened his eyes so that he could see colors and shapes more sharply. Soon enough he spied a soft patch of grass. He walked over and shifted his position so that he was on his knees. And he lay down. Causing a puff of air and send his mane up, and a bird or two to fly off. And then he closed his eyes. He was asleep soon enough.

Flinn was walking. Just walking. He wasn't running from something, or going anywhere, he just liked the way his hooves sounded on the grass, rocks and dirt he crossed as he walked. Flinn's coat was lightly fluffed from the gentle breeze, despite it was a short coat. Sometimes he wished he had a thicker coat to protect him, but he liked his colouring too much to seriously wish to be any different. When glancing his way, most people thought Flinn would be bold and daring, his red colour standing out, but he was a quiet foal. It wasn't that he didn't have much to say, just that he thought better than to say it.
Blinking in surprise as he saw a puff of dust appear not far away in a smaller clearing. Curious, Flinn fastened his steps until he was trotting, careful with his steps so he didn't make a noise and disturb whoever it was. When the shape came into view, his eyes widened. It was the large, fluffy stallion from earlier who appeared to be...sleeping? He could be attacked though! It was dangerous sleeping during the day, especially alone. Flinn frowned lightly before moving closer, but still a distance away, before laying down slowly so he didn't wake up the mustang.
He would keep watch while the other slept, he decided as he stifled a yawn of his own.

Szad slept and slept. An hour or two passed. And he was still unaware of the small foal that had settled itself next to him to protect him. But Szad did not need protecting. It was his mind that did. His sleep was filled with images. Scenes from his past. He did not remember much of his past, only flashes and pieces. But these images were new to him. He had never seen them before. Never thought about them. And most likely for a good reason. They were unpleasant. Very unpleasant. He could see a large, heavy horse. Its mane covered its eyes. It seamed to be in pain. It was bucking and thrashing and yelling something. Screaming. But Szad could not understand. He tried to help, to run towards it. But something was also holding him back. Looking behind him, he saw it. One large two-legger holding a rope fastened to Szad's leg. What was happening? What was this? he looked up, And saw a gaint hoof descending onto him. And he woke up.
"No!" He yelled. His eyes shot open and he panted.

Flinn had struggled to stay awake in the hours that passed while Szad slept, he saw no signs of other horses and it grew harder and harder to keep entertained. First he began counting the rocks by his feet, then he moved them with his hooves and recounted them, but that didn't take long to do. He watched the clouds then, making shapes with them and watching them move across the sky. It made him more tired and his eyes began to close.
He was dozing while lying upright, his eyes closed softly. He was awoken at the same time Szad woke, from the yelled 'no'. He panicked, leaping to his feet and spinning around to face the now awake stallion. Flinn's heart pounded painfully in his chest as he struggled to regain his breath.
“What's wrong? What happened? Are you okay?” He gasped, eyes wide as he stared at the panting

Szad shook is head, trying to get the image out of his mind. Who was that large stallion? What had been happening? When he saw the large mustang...Szad remembered having some kind of emotion. A kind of..love, and respect for him. But it felt ever lasting. Like a friendship bond or sibling affections. What...what could that have been? Szad shook his head once more as a chill ran up his spin, making him cringe. He didn't even notice the little foal he had stirred awake. Not until he heard his soft words. His head shot up and he immediately stood up in sunrise. But his head was still mushed from the horrible dream and he stumbled and fell down on his rear once more. Szad's sharp blue eyes were wide with fright. But then, when they really took in what had made the noise. He began to relax. It was the young foal he had met a few suns earlier. Szad let out a heavy breathe, he had not noticed that he was holding it in until his lungs had begun to hurt. "Foal." He said softly in recognition. Though he was still in a horrified state and his voice was shaky. He smiled.

In the few moments it took him to realise that Flinn was there, it gave the young foal a few moments to watch the elder male unnoticed. It was obvious something had spooked him, but Flinn could see nothing worrying around. It had to be something inside, something that was making him scared. Flinn frowned slightly, before panicking when the bigger male got to his feet. Flinn stumbled back a few steps, eyes wide as he watched the male flop back onto his rump. It was, admittedly scary to start with, a funny sight to see. Flinn moved closer when the male made no move towards him or to stand again. He seemed to relax more as well. That was good. Flinn wasn't used to seeing adults scared,. He was surprised how much it scared him.
“The name's Flinn,” he volunteered when he realised he'd never introduced himself. “Are you alright?” He repeated, realising his question hadn't been answered before.

Szad let his muscels relax. He let the tension become smoothness, the horror become friendlyness, and the shakyness become his usual akward speach.
"H-hi Flinn. Im Szad." Only now did he realized that they were never formally intorduced. Szad felt a wave of shame that he had forgoten his manners. But the foals question put the thought in the back of his mind.
"Y-yes, Im f-" Szad stared at the foal. No. he was not fine. That was the most vivid memory he had seen yet. What could it mean? The truth was, that he was not fine. He was confused and his mind could not calm down.
He looked down at his large hooves and thick feathering. Which had little leaves and dirt clinging to it. "I had a n-nightmare...And..I w-was scared...." Szad felt as small and weakless as the dried leaf woven into his feathering.

Flinn eyed the odd stallion, curious over him. He was momentarily distracted by the introductions, a friendly look on his face in hopes it would soothe the older male.
“Szad. I like your name,” he remarked honestly. It was different then what he'd heard before. The compliment was also in the hopes it would soothe the male too, perhaps a little dishonestly used but an honest remark none the less.
When he listened to the male speak, Flinn was instantly sympathetic. He had never had nightmares before, but he had heard of them from other foals and knew they were often terrifying.
“That's horrible,” Flinn said firmly, “but nothing in your nightmare can harm you now, right?” He tried to look encouraging. Maybe Flinn could make the male feel better, or at least calm him a little if nothing else.

When the small foal began to speak, his soft and gentle voice made Szad's ears flick directly at him. And he raised his head enough to look the small horse in the eye, while hiding behind his bangs. Seeing the smile and friendly face of the young foal calmed Szad down slightly. It was so different, so much kinder than the image of a large stallion bucking above his head. The image was forged on the instead of this eye lids. Every time he blinked;he saw it. But seeing the kind face of this foal made Szad smile. It was calming him down. Clearing his head. It was only a dream.
"Y-yes, your right...nothing can hurt m-me...either of us n-now." He smiled gently at Flinn, trying to show him that he was grasping control of himself once more.
