Muddy paws danced along the swampy lands as Mono bounced from rock to rock, jumping over the swampy waters below, her black fur coated in a soft brown from the legs down, but she didn't seem to mind the dirt. Naw, Mono wasn't really a girly girl, nor did she think she was that pretty to start with, so. To her, this look- it fit her. Stopping on top of a large rock the lioness sat, glancing around before sighing. She felt pretty dull again. She hated feeling this... useless. Mmm. With twitching ears she stood again and jumped down from her rock, landing into the murky water below. She was going to go look for Domevlo, after all, he did say she could come visit him when she wanted to, right?

Domevlo waded through the swampy waters, golden eyes sharp and vigilant. Two of his fellow pride members had died recently, and many of the newcomers thought he was to blame,. They though he was the villain. He'd been one before. He'd worn that label once. The accusation was one that he loathed. Still, he swore in his heart to find the killer. All he had to do was get back into that mindset, right? It would led him right to the guilty party.
The villainous mind was a scary place to be.
He had wanted to leave those thoughts behind forever, and to repent for his past sins. If they knew....oh, if they knew his past transgressions it would only fuel the opinion of the newcomers... It would spread doubt in the minds of everyone. He'd get shouts of 'hypocracy!' thrown at his feet. He'd be forced to leave this once haven. He had to find the killer. He had to-
Domevlo stopped. He thought he heard something. An Alligator? Swamp snake? HE looked around, and thought he saw through the light filtering through the canopy above, a familiar form. Her name came to mind-
"Mono?"
For such a large, gruff looking lion, his voice had always been such a hoarse whisper. Young, but filled with timidness.

"Hey."
She called back to him as she slowly pushed through the waters to get to him. Mono wasn't very social, so she had not really heard anything about the deaths in the pride, nor did she hear any ill words about her new friend. Perhaps it was better that way, though. None the less, she was happy to see him again.
"How are you?"
She questioned as she drew near, her bright brown eyes narrowing onto his figure. He seemed... off. Mmmm. Her tail flicked from side to side, mud flicking back and forth as she did this.
"You alright?"

"I am,...bothered," he admitted. "You've heard that there is a killer in our midst, yes?" He didn't know that she didn't know. "It's dangerous for you to be out here alone. Too many have succumbed to the killer already."
He was concerned. He didn't want anymore blood to flow down the river like it had for the older lion, and the new mother. Spirits bless and protect the now motherless cubs~ He looked to Mono, a face he had, admittedly, not seen in a while, though he had thought of her on occasion. She was one of the first he had met within these lands...his first friend.

She was pretty shocked to hear that a killer was running around, and in all truths had no idea. She hated being so anti-social. Her eyes narrowed at the news and with a soft gasp she looked him dead in the eye and spoke out.
"A killer? Someone's been... killing lions in this pride?"
By now he could tell she had NO idea what was going on. The white markings on her face wrinkled as she looked down for a moment and thought, speaking out soon after.
"I'm not alone now."
She nodded.
"I've got you here, so. I'm not worried."
She was trying to make the best of this news, though it was hard to take and understand why anyone would...DO something like that.
"How many... have been..."
She paused, unable to mutter the words.

"Two," Domevlo answered promptly. "A older lion that I do not know, and a mother who had just given birth. Her young cubs were right there beside her...they are alive, and under the care of another at the moment."
Domevlo jumped at the sound of a splash behind him. He relazed, seeing that it was just a frog umping out of the water and onto the bank.
He let out a small sigh again. "You should be worried. I've never protected anyone or anything, Mono. And I am seeking the killer. Should I find him,..or her,.. I would not want you to have to see that. To have to worry about there being more than one,.. I wouldn't want to put you in danger and I,...I'm disaster."

"A disaster?"
She frowned. Perhaps he didn't understand the meaning of that word or something, he was nothing of the sort to her.
"Please. If you are going to look for this killer, I want to come with you."
She spoke out, standing tall. Why did she have to be looked after anyway? Because she was female? No. Mono wasn't going to let him play that card.
"It's sad what's happened, but this place is just as much my home as it is yours, so..."
She paused.
"If you are going to look for said killer, so am I."
She nodded.
"Plus, we can look after one another."

A silence passed and Domevlo looked down, examining the water, and his own reflection. "I'm not going to change your mind, am I?" He didn't want her blood on his conscience. She might not want to be protected, but he'd try, whether she knew he was or not.

"Yeah, you won't be able to."
She nodded and moved herself out of the murky water, her black fur damp and mud covered. She rested at the side of the swamp and glanced at him, still unsure as to why he was acting so weird.
"You alright, though? Other than what's been going on around here, how are you feeling?"

There was another silence. He thought about how he was going to answer that. He felt bitter, he felt betrayed, he felt scared,... "They believe that I am the one responsible for the murders." He gave an embittered chortle. "Me!" The look on the large male's face was downright pathetic. "Oh sure, not everyone believes it - just the influx of returning members. Older lions and lionesses less welcoming of a creature such as myself. All because I look the part."
He looked back at his reflection, and a wry grin came over his face - or what half it could. "Nothing would make me feel better than to prove them wrong."
Domevlo still neglected to tell how he once had been a killer. He had once slain an entire family...led a lion on an extensive search till it killed him. Was such to be his fate? Would they see how he pursued the true villain, or would they think he was trying to flee for the crimes?
What they thought mattered so much to Domevlo....

At his words Mono's ears flattened against her skull. She had no idea that this was what was happening to him, this bullying. She felt sick. She couldn't understand why anyone would point the blame onto him, when he seemed like such a good soul. She frowned and sighed, speaking out to him- though her eyes wandered.
"I am sorry, they just want someone to blame. It's not you."
As if she spoke for the whole pride she nodded and glanced at him for a second. She couldn't see the monster that he saw, no. With a soft voice she added.
"I don't think you look the part."
She nodded.
"And if proving them wrong is what it will take to make you see that, then I want to help you."

Domevlo was, admittedly frustreated. For so long he had yearned for a community, and now he wanted to go on his mission alone. It wasn't because he didn't want the company, but that he worried. He didn't want any harm to come to anyone. If he was to fall victim, it would surely be no great loss, but if Mono were to instead of him... Domevlo would never forgive himself. But, Mono was already resolute. All he could do was nod. "Very, well then. But.....but promise me, after this, you will stay closer?" Closer to the heart of the pride. To learn that she knew nothing of the murderer in their midst scared Domevlo. She could have easily fallen prey! It made a cold shivver run through him.

"I'll try..."
She nodded, she really would. Her ears dropped as she eyed him and spoke out in a small tone, as if she was unsure.
"Where to now?"
What was she getting herself into?

"I want to assume that the killer is hanging around the outskirts of the swamp...or in the areas less traveled. I'm going to scout them thoroughly. If that fails, I'm afraid I'm going to have to assume that it is someone in our midst. I don't want to though, It's hypocritical..." So much hypocrisy.. "but logical." And if he had been in their place, he probably would have blamed someone of his stature as well.
Or what if someone was to suspect a loner like Mono? The thought seemed to occur to him all of a sudden. He'd feared for her safety out here all alone,...but now he also feared, for her sake, the suspicions of his fellow pride members. What if one of them were to go mad in their grief, and become a vigilante - getting rid of all whom they suspect? Well, that probably wouldn't go on very long until the king stepped in, but even one death was one too many.

"Alright."
Mono's tone seemed unsure. Maybe she didn't know what to think, maybe she was afraid? She would try to hide that though. She couldn't be afraid. Shouldn't. With a soft nod the dark female spoke out to him, her eyes narrowed.
"I will go back to my den and wait for you then, if that is okay?"
She knew inside he was worried about her being around, so she would give him the space he needed. Right?
