There hadn't been a cloud in the sky that morning. So, when Pierrette decided to take a walk on the sidewalks of Destiny City, she hadn't brought her umbrella with her. She didn't even bring a jacket with her. All she had on was a pink sundress with a light knit shawl hanging over her shoulders.
It was like the clouds saw that there was a cute redhead out, under-dressed for October weather. They seemed to congregate right above her head just when she got near one of the lines of shops. Too far away to run back home, but just far enough from the stores to get promptly soaked.
Pierrette shrieked when she felt the first bout of raindrops plop on her head. More followed, and soon her sneakers were squeaking in the rain as she ran for shelter.
When she opened the door of the first shop, a tiny bell welcomed her with a jingle. Pierrette's shawl was completely soaked through, and her once-ringlet was now just a limp ponytail.

Natasha was idly mulling over the assorted variety of snorkeling accessories that the sports shop in stock. The jingling of the shop's door bell caught the young girl's attention, however, causing her to briefly look over.
Low and behold, some small speck of a girl was standing there, soaked from head to toe, and dripping all over the floor. Inwardly, she chuckled. The little redhead looked absolutely out of place once inside these doors.
Lowering her gaze, and listening to the shopkeeper give his welcome, Natasha grinned a little. She picked up a snorkel mask, turning it over in her hands.
"If you're looking for an umbrella, I don't think ya gonna find it here." she paused, "You might, however, wanna check out the diving gear."

"I just came into the closest store," Pierrette said as her teeth started to chatter. The air conditioning was on full blast, giving the store a chilly feeling mingling with the scent of new rubber from the tires of a wall full of mountain bicycles.
"I don't scuba dive," Pierrette didn't seem to get the joke, maybe it went over her head due to the language difference? Either way, she looked a little apprehensive.
"I just play volleyball..." she trailed off, "But not very seriously. I'm not on a competing team or anything."
She walked up to the taller girl and asked, "Do you go to Meadowview?"

The accent caught Natasha kind of odd. Though she shrugged it off. This one either had a poor sense of humour, or she really just didn't catch what was being said. Either way, it still struck her funny.
"Volleyball, hmm? I don't play it much myself, just during gym class when they make us. I prefer water games, to ball games." placing the mask down she looked over towards Pierrette.
"Yeah, I'm at Meadowview. Gonna guess from the question that you are too. My name's Natasha. Don't think I've seen you around there before. You new or something?" Natasha scratched the top of her head, staring at Pierrette as though trying to place where she could have crossed the smaller girl.

Pierrette tilted her head, trying to look at Natasha from another angle, "I like swimming, but I don't really know what you mean by 'water games'. My name is Pierrette, I'm new... I came to Destiny City from France." She offered her soaked hand, but then thought better of it and tried to wipe her hand off on her equally-wet dress. It didn't work out too well.
"Sorry," she shrugged, looking a little sheepish, "I guess I don't give the best first impression all wet, huh? I hope I'm not making the carpet too wet, either..."

"One. I'm guessin that English isn't your first language then." Natasha started as she knelt down, looking over some snorkel and diving fins. Hers were getting a little worn from use, was time for a new pair.
Now if only they came in a colour that wasn't pink, or yellow.
"Secondly, swimming is a water game, or sport if you prefer. Also things like diving, sailing, you know. Stuff on or in the water?" she pushed a few pairs off to the side, noticing what must be the 'boy' coloured fins that were green, black and blue. Sliding out a blue pair, she stood up with them.
"I tried out soccer one time, but I really didn't like it. After getting smacked in the face, I was pretty much done with that one. Not willing to really get into baseball for the same reason. Least if you run into a jellyfish, you can kind of avoid it." she grinned, "They don't tend to move so fast."
"France hmm? Is it nice there? I've heard nice things about it. Never been, likely never will be either." her eyes trailed down to the carpet in discussion.
"Meh, I doubt the shop owner really cares much. I don't think you're the first, or the last, person to be wet in the shop." Natasha had already decided, that though a strange, small girl, Pierrette would be an alright person.
Weird, with a funny accent and no taste in sports...
But alright.

"I'm from France," Pierrette admitted, "You're right. English is NOT my first language..."
She offered an embarrassed smile.
"I just really like volleyball. I can't swim too well... I mean, riding on those foam 'noodles' is fun, but I couldn't compete! And jellyfish aren't as frightening as lobsters, with their giant claws..."
Her eyes started widening as she imagined a large lobster climbing from the depths of the sea to pinch her to a nasty demise.

"Yeah, I caught the France bit. Just didn't know. I imagine there are some people there who speak English as a first language." She thought for a moment. "Then again, maybe not."
"Well, I doubt you'd be going out far enough to catch lobsters undertoe. And pool noodles are kinda fun. I don't really do well at Volleyball though. I can't spike, and I tend to miss when the ball comes at me." she laughed.
"For teams, I am not first choice, let's put it that way, anyways."

"Oh, sorry!" Pierrette winced, "I can be a little silly at times."
She sneezed.
Perhaps she had meant 'stupid'? 'Thick'? Or maybe she was being too nice to herself.
"Lobsters are really scary... crbs re cute, though! Especially the little hermit ones!" she clapped her hands, "I want to adopt one, and spry it and make it so happy!"
"I'm not picked first, either. Normally second or third..." she paused, "But that's not what matters! It's all about having fun!"

"You don't like lobsters, but think crabs are cute?" Nat had a hard time stifling a laugh, "S'a lil weird. Ah well." It just went hand in hand with the European girl's strangeness.
"I guess. I don't really enjoy Volleyball I guess. Swimming? Yes. Sailing? Yes. Volleyball? Naw not my cup'o'tea, so to speak." her mind wandered for a moment.
"Whatcha doin' out in the rain anyways Pierre? If s'okay to call ya that. I know you said it was the closest store, but..."

"There's just something about the way a lobster walks..." Pierrette mused, "Crabs shuffle! It's cute to watch them shuffle from side to side. Plus, hermit crabs wear such pretty shells. I don't like the painted shells they have in pet stores, though."
She wrinkled her nose.
"I like real shells, the ones that look... well, natural!" she beamed.
Natasha's next question made Pierrette's face pale and her mouth go slack.
"You mean you don't know?!" she gasped, "The shoe store a few blocks down is having a shoe sale! If you have their card, you can get great savings!"
She put her hand over her heart and did a twirl, "I love shoes!!"

Natasha stared at the smaller girl. Then she stared harder, if that was possible. A shoe sale? Really? She came all the way out here, with no umbrella, to a shoe sale? She sighed.
"Uh huh. Really? Shoes. I see. Well, I at least agree with you on the crabs. They do shuffle along pretty awesomely." she looked out the store windows, noticing that the rain had died down some.
"Well, if you wanna get to your sale, I guess I can walk you over to it. I have my umbrella with me at least. Won't keep all the rain off, but it'll keep some. Unless you wanna go back down to the dorms now?"

"No way!" Pierrette suddenly slammed her foot down, her frazzled hair practically going out in all directions.
"There's no way I'm going back home without a pair of shoes! Or at least having looked at them!"
In steps that were way too fast for the small girl, Pierrette was at the door. Her gray eyes were gleaming like frightening headlights. Apparently shoes were the magic word for sudden bursts of energy coming from the little girl.
"Thank you so much! I'll appreciate at least being somewhat dry. I want to look nice while I try on shoes!"

Wow, what a handful this one would be Nat mused as she watched the smaller girl bolt off towards the door. She looked at the mask and sighed, walking over behind Pierrette. "Alright then. Shouldn't be a problem. We'll get you those shoes, then head back to campus. Alright? And promise me we're not gonna be there all night?" she picked up her umbrella, from where she had left it at the door.
"Lead the way!"
