Slowly and carefully Kaya stretched her arms up above her head as she walked back to her weyr. She heard a loud pop as her bones shifted back into place. The young woman had spent the last two hours helping out in the kitchen. Before she had impressed with Rumoth she had been an Apprentice Baker trying to follow in her mother's footsteps. The stories her father had told her of her mother had mentioned how wonderful her cooking was. Ever since she was a child Kaya had aspired to be like the mother she had never known. Her father used to tell her stories of the young beautiful woman and her glorious cooking.
Now that she had impressed with Rumoth, however, those dreams had been put aside. All of her time was consumed in her lifemate but she didn't mind. In fact, it was better than baking or cooking. She had realized quite quickly that, as much as she wanted to be like her mother, she needed to live for herself and make her own life.
Even though she had impressed, Kaya still enjoyed cooking. Every now and then she would see if she could help out in the kitchens. Usually they only set her to minor tasks such as gathering and readying ingredients, kneading dough, or making simple dishes. She found these to be rather soothing. They allowed her to take her mind off of other things or even to think over her thoughts.
Pulling out of her thoughts, she looked down at her clothes. What a mess! Her clothes were covered in flour and other ingredients that she couldn't quite identify. She should hurry on back to her weyr and get cleaned up. She also knew Rumoth would be wanting to sample a bit of what she had brought back for him. Kaya knew he enjoyed her cooking. She never game him too much of it but it was like a treat. Of course he could get better directly from the kitchens but she knew it wouldn't be the same for him.

The bluerider was stamping her feet clean of dirt before stepping into the weyr when she caught sight of one of the other bluerider females- Kaya, was it? And what was she wearing? It looked like the kitchen had exploded on her shirt. She grinned, moving swiftly over to the other female. "Heyla, Kaya. Were you on kitchen duty today? I was just about to go steal some bubbly pies and then steal Feylith for some hard flying. Would you and Rumath be interested in escaping the rigors of our bigoted family and blowing off some steam in a fancy flying contest?"
Her blue-green eyes gleamed wickedly. "Winner mends the others straps for a week."

Abruptly the girl stopped her thoughts and took just a moment to register that Tethis had been talking to her. "Hey! Well, I just volunteered a little bit. I used to be an apprentice Baker before I imprinted with Rumath. I must say I love being with Rumath more but I do miss cooking sometimes." She told the other girl.
A flying contest huh? She hadn't ever really done any contests with Rumath, not yet anyway, they were both still a little new but with her smaller blue going against the larger one she had to have a decent chance didn't she? Rumath was quite fast." Sure! It sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Should we make our way back to the kitchen first so you can get some of those pies?"

"Ooo, a baker?" Tethis looked delighted. "Does that mean I could convince you to sneak me a bubbly pie out of the kitchen every so often?" her face was blank, hopeful, but her eyes were glittering playfully. "As for being with our dragons.... they are amazing, aren't they?" her eyes went distant as she sent a mental caress to her companion in all things.
He was what she lived for, now more than ever. He was her confidant, her partner. Not her other half; they were both separate entities, they did and would argue things through sometimes before it grew too painful for them to both be angry and upset and would switch off as though they'd covered the glows. It would be together that they would fly Thread- and it would be together that they would live a long life, until they went between to be together eternally.
"Yea, lets go grab some of the pies, maybe a snack for both of us." Feylith was big, but he was agile, and had great constitution. Rumath was smaller though, probably a little faster. But would he be able to keep up with Feylith's wingspan? Her eyes sparkled at the other woman as she turned her, pushing her lightly back towards the kitchen. This would be so much fun!

Kaya smiled at the other girl. "I suppose I could snag a few for you now and then. It's not like they're too hard to get. I bring them home for Rumath all the time." She knew how much Rumath liked her cooking but sometimes there just wasn't any time to make any specifically for him so he had to settle with someone else's cooking.
"Rumath is amazing. I always dreamed about having my own dragon, but I never imaged anything like this at all." Kaya thought for a moment. Mostly she had wanted to be like her mother, but there had always been that part of her that wanted to ride a fighting Dragon. Her uncle had impressed with a green dragon and she had always been in awe of the dragon.
"It sounds like a plan. I must warn you though, your dragon may be larger than Rumath but my blue is quite fast." She grinned at the other girl and started walking towards the kitchens. It would be relatively difficult for Rumath to keep up with the larger dragon in a distance race but if he could gain and keep the lead they might be able to outlast him in a shorter race.

Tethis grinned at Kaya. "I can't cook." she admitted cheerfully. "So anything you're willing to snag me from the kitchens would be appreciated!" she nodded, then followed the other female back towards the kitchen.
"I never really thought of myself as being a rider. I always thought I'd be working among Seacraft Hall, but then I was Searched.... and Feylith...." she smiled, looking almost dreamy. "Ah, if only he were human." she laughed, attention going back to the other woman.
"We'll see! And I guess I'll get my mending tools ready, just in case." she gave Kaya a friendly wink. "And be ready to share my Benden with you if you lose, just as a consolation prize."

Kaya laughed as she listened to the other girl. "Oh I know what you mean. I can't say I haven't thought about that myself. As a kid, the thought this kind of love was reserved only for the closest of lovers. I can see now I was wrong. I know I'll never love anyone they way I love Rumath." The thought may have made her sad years ago had she known, after all, what little girl hasn't thought about her prince charming? Today however, it was just fact.
The young woman led Tethis into the kitchen, waving at the kitchen staff as they walked past. Ever since she had been old enough she had made the kitchens her home. She really did miss being an apprentice sometimes but Rumath was worth so much more, even if he did take up all of her time. Kara grabbed a couple pies and handed them to the other girl.
"Benden huh? Perhaps you should save it. I won't be needing a consolation prize." She winked at Tethis as they walked back out of the kitchens. "However, if you lose I'd be happy to share my own Benden, and perhaps some of my cooking skills."

"I'm willing to lose for the wine." Tethis teased. "And the food. Tempty-tempty-tempty." she juggled the still slightly-warm pies carefully before putting one in her pocket and biting into the other with a satisfied sigh. She then wrapped it back up and put it in her other pocket.
Darling, would you come on over this way? I'll meet you in the weyrbowl. Kaya and Rumath will be flying with us.
The small one? She could see her lifemate's body rise from where he'd been waiting, lazily winging it for their location.
Yes, the small one. Turning to Kaya, she grinned. "Ever been to the seashore before? Work and play, all in one."

The young woman laughed a little as Tethis admitted she might be willing to lose. "Well then it wouldn't be any fun would it? I'd prefer a fair fight. At least make it look like you're trying." She teased. Maybe she would have a friend in Tethis after all. It would be nice to have someone to talk to and hang out with.
Rumath are you ready for flight? Looks like Tethis and Feylith want to race us. Are you up for it? We'll meet in the weyrbowl.
Of course. The large one right? Hmmm he might be a bit of a challenge. The dragon sounded
Yes the large one. He might be a challenge but we can take him, I know we can. Kaya then turned her attention back to Tethis. "The seashore? Once or twice. Unfortunately I've been relatively busy lately so I haven't been there any time soon. It sounds like a good idea to me."

"I guess I'll try." the blonde agreed with a smile, tanned arm moving up to hood her eyes as she watched the blue land in the bowl not far from the two women. He leaned out to nose His, giving a verbal whuffing noise at Kaya as a greeting. "Well, Kaya, if you'd like we could race by the water. I go there every opportunity. I can have Feylith pass on the location to Rumath?"
She stepped up, checking her riding straps carefully. Falling would be embarrassing. Ready for a good race?
He'll be fast. Feylith was thoughtful. Hard to catch up with if he gets far ahead. I will have to fly high and hope for favorable wind.

Kaya nodded in agreement with Tethis and then in greeting to Feylith. It had been quite a while since she'd been anywhere near the seashore and it would definitely do her some good.
Damn right it would! Came Rumath's response as he landed next to the much larger dragon. You haven't enjoyed yourself in a while. You work too much.
So you enjoy telling me. She grumbled as she also checked her equipment. Kaya wasn't about to become forgetful. She then hoped onto Rumath's back. She was still a bit akward at it but had had plenty of practice by now. Maybe one day she wouldn't look quite so clumsy.
And perhaps one day Hell will freeze over. Chuckled Rumath.
Kaya simply ignored the comment and turned her attention back to Tethis. "Ready?" She asked.

Tethis grinned, nodded to the other woman. "Ready when you are." she agreed, and moved towards Feylith's riding straps, hopping up onto him with practiced ease. "Feylith will send your Rumath an image of where we are going. He and I have been there many times, so it should be quite clear." she gripped the straps tightly, and the blue flung himself into the air with a stirring of dust.
The former Fishcrafter closed her eyes, picturing the sparkling water and the sandy beaches she so loved. The salty air and the hollering of birds. And without a sound, she and Feylith disappeared into the cold of between.
Black, blacker, blackest...
