[RikProwley/Simon and Fyre/Hadrian]
The forecast (which Simon checked obsessively every morning) called for clear skies today, but Djerod predicted rain, and as usual his host's insight proved more accurate than the meteorologists on Gaia 9 Action News. So it was that Simon found himself ducking under the awning of the nearest building, his new scraps of sample cloth clutched protectively in his arms, a light rain falling around him. He had just finished another productive trip to Crate & Apparel in search of new textiles for his clothing line. While the selection at C&A was not Simon's favorite, it did have the best range of unusual fabrics.

Hadrian was usually alright at predicting the weather. He'd spent alot of time living out of doors. The problem was that when he was wrong he always seemed to be spectacularly wrong. And it always seemed to get him caught out in the rain. He tried very hard to forgive nature all her weather patterns, but he could bring himself to appreciate rain. Actually he really hated rain. It was logical he supposed, for fire to detest being wet. It was worse then being cold, as it was harder to remedy. He was holding a leaf over his head to ward off some of the water, and finally, casting about for somewhere dry, fetched up under a shop awning looking a bit more miserable then was called for (and a great deal more miserable then was usual for him).

It took Simon a moment to shake off the surprise of being joined under the awning by another feien. He was presently unnoticed but that was bound to change in a moment when Hadrian looked around. As it was better to get it over with, Simon noisily cleared his throat to attract Hadrian's attention and offered a hasty, "Good day."

Hadrian looked up at the speaker, looking slightly startled. He had been absorbed in searching for a pebble to turn into a makeshift heater and hadn't noticed the other Feien. Despite shivering a bit, and being unpleasantly damp, the fire feien brightened considerably now that he wasn't just occupied with thinking about being damp. "Oh, Hello! Sorry, I was sort of distracted. Didn't see you there." He smiled warmly and moved to offer his hand to the other feien, "I'm Hadrian."

Simon had to shuffle the cloth samples he was holding to his other arm in order to shake Hadrian's hand. "Simon," he said. His grip was careful and steady. He was also much larger than Hadrian, aside from his wings. On any other feien they would have been average-sized, on someone of his stature they seemed rather small.

"Pleasure to meet you, Simon." He let go of the tall feien's hand and shivered, apparently involvuntarily. "Sorry...not much for the rain." Something a few feet away distracted him suddenly and he stepped forward, "Ah that's about the right size!" He pounced on a pebble some feet away and scooped it up. Then he paused, as if in the middle of doing something to the pebble, and looked up at Simon. "Do you mind heat awefully?" He said, almost apologetically.

"Heat?" mumbled Simon, peering after Hadrian curiously. When he realized Hadrian was waiting for an answer he snapped out of his erudite trance. "I've no problem with heat."

The shorter Feien looked releaved, "Oh good." The pebble, now, had begun to look alot like what happens when you leave a rock in a fire over night. Hadrian was craddling it cheerfully, and as he came back to stand next to Simon, it was clear why he had asked about heat. The pebble was now serving the same purpose as a space heater...or maybe a small fire. Either way its effect on Hadrian was obvious. The fire feien's shoulders had relaxed a bit, and had stopped the occassional shivering. "Tell me its to warm? I tend to overdo it." He smiled in a self-concious way as he said it.

Simon's eyes widened until he realized what he had witnessed. A Heat spell. Not an Artifice skill, just a talent innate to any Heat feien. He should have realized earlier by Hadrian's elemental signature, but after so long spent apart from the rest of the feien Simon had forgotten what to pay attention to.
"It's fine. That's very useful," he said, sneaking one hand free from the bundle and adjusting his glasses. When he thought about it, the entire school of Artifice might have arisen out of studying spells just like that one.

"It really is." Hadrian agreed pleasantly, "More effective then just lighting something on fire anyway, especially in the rain." He chuckled, "Of course, an umbrella would be awefully usefull too. I should get one of those. Warms rocks don't do much to keep off the rain." He settled back to lean against the wall, setting the pebble at his feet now that he was warm enough that hugging it to himself seemed a bit silly, "I suppose, though, if you could make something hot enough the rain would just turn to mist before it his you...I'm never tried though. Might have to someday."

"We sell-- we used to sell umbrellas in the shop," Simon corrected himself. "But any sort of waxed cocktail umbrella works. But I think anything hot enough to vaporize water at a useful distance would probably be too hot for even Heat feien to handle." Simon landed near the stone, just near enough to feel its warmth.

Hadrian ran his fingers through his wet hair, seperated the damp red waves in the hope of speeding the drying process. "I dunno...maybe so. I could ask one before I try, maybe. But honestly I don't think you could make something hot enough if it was er 'to hot to handle' anyway." He grinned at the phrase to hot to handle, enjoying the pun a bit.

Simon looked at Hadrian quizzically, not getting it but refusing to let on as much. Instead, he changed the subject. "The rain might not let up for a while. Perhaps you should contact your bond."
Funny thing to say, that.

Hadrian blinked, and tilted his head to the side slightly, like a bird that had seen something it didn't quite understand, "Beg your pardon? What would my bond have to do with the rain?" He said the word bond as if it didn't come quite naturally. He'd long gotten used to other feien calling their guardians 'bonds' but he still couldn't quite associated it immidiately.

Simon's brow furrowed. "In case he or she wants to know where you are or you require transport?"
