Uuni had finally finished moving over all of her stuff, and could now take a good, long look at the Weyrling barracks.
Overall, it was kind of bland, but it was large and there was company. Thinking back on the hatching, she wasn't too fond of all of this company. There was the potential for a lot of trouble brewing.
With a heavy sigh, she dropped her satchel of stuff and sat down on the edge of her cot. Maybe she could head down to the betting tables, see if Avery needing anything done. But, no, that would seem too desperate.
Makereth was asleep at the moment, miracle of all miracles. Then again, he did sleep a great deal of the day. The few hours that he was awake were nothing but trouble. Not of an unpleasant kind, but trouble never the less.
Glancing over at the spot a little ways away, she decided it was time for the inevitable introductions. She'd bee living with these people for six months at minimum, so she best learn how to properly socialize.
Standing back up again, she made her way over to Ayishia's section of the room, extending her hand. A tooth-displaying smile was on her lips, as she provided her greeting. "Hey. I'm Uuni. Guess we're kinda stuck with each other, right?"

Ayishia had been absently shifting through her belongings moments ago while sitting on her bunk, doing so as quietly as possible while her dragon slept too. Not long, probably, as he'd complain of itchy hide in no time. She had fallen to watching him sleep, holding a jar of hide oil loosely in her lap at the ready. She hadn't even noticed Uuni approaching until the introduction.
"Oh!" she breathed in surprise, then flushed. "I'm so sorry, I wasn't even...oh...nevermind." She flipped the jar onto her bunk and took the offered hand, gingerly at first but not because she was a germophobe, but because formality wasn't something she was used to. She straightened and seemed to regather herself quickly though. "Hi, I'm Ayishia."
Ptoth too, came a sleepy comment from her dragon's bunk as a tail flick against the rock ground and a slit of green showed at his eye. Uuni would have heard the dragon speak.
"Oh yes...and Ptoth is over there." A flick of the wrist towards the bulk upon the hay would suffice....he was hard to miss.
I told her already, mine. Ptoth isn't afraid to talk to lady riders. They're nice.

It was always a bit funny when they flushed, and usually it was an excuse on her end to flirt. Uuni glanced towards Makereth, and was quickly reminded of exactly why she wouldn't be doing any of that with anyone anytime soon.
After the formal introduction she let her hands drop calmly to her sides and looked over in Ptoth's direction. Well, hey to you, too, Ptoth. He was quite the eye-catcher with his spots and pleasant blue color.
"That's Makereth," Uuni said, pointing in her dragon's direction. She then put one finger to her own lips to simulate keeping quiet, "Watch your stuff at night. He's got a habit of switching people's things at random." She'd found a pair of some poor candidate's shoes in her belongings the other day, and no doubt her candidate had found a pair of hers. She wasn't sure how accurate it was, considering Makereth rarely tried the same thing twice, but a warning was best all the same.
The grin broadened as she settled down on Ayishia's bunk with no permission at all. Old habits would die hard, and no sense of other's personal space would probably never leave. "You born here in the Weyr? Or come from that Hold. . . uh. . . " Shards! "High Telgar? Is that right?"

Uuni is a good name. I like it. Easy to say. A soft hum sounded from the hay, but no further movement was issued for the moment. Either he fell asleep again or he was playing silent observer.
"Ah, I remember him. So distinguished and all with those markings," she said with a slight smile. And not crazy either, she thought privately. She could handle a little mischievousness...violence, not so much. "Is he always hungry too? Ptoth would eat til he burst and even if I stop him, he still eats a ton. I can only assume how much a bronze or gold would eat!"
Uuni's movement to her bed wasn't off-putting, as she wasn't a prude or super sensitive of her belongings unless they were going to harm them. She even shifted to allow more room. "I was born here...dragonrider parents," she offered as an explanation, though the tone of voice seemed to betray an awkwardness surrounding the topic. "You?"

"Yeah, he's flashy," Uuni responded with a laugh. As if he'd need it. Uuni was under the impression that Makereth could be colored like Darcth, and by the end of a month, the whole Weyr would still know who he was.
"Huh?" She was so distracted with her own personal daydreams that she'd hardly heard the mention of hunger. "Oh." The smile did not leave as she nodded and gave the girl a wink. "Sometimes I have to remind him to eat. He's such a busy body." Her voice dropped to a whisper, glad that Amelia had her own quarters.
"That Queen's a handful. Were you one of the one's that had to bow at the hatching?" Uuni rolled her eyes at this notion. Man, she was glad she'd Impressed to the troublemaker instead of the snot.
Dealing with it for a night? Totally cool. For the rest of her life? No way, thank you.
If Uuni noticed the awkwardness around the subject of her parents, she thought not to comment on it. Instead she gave the girl a friendly nudge with her elbow. "I used to live in a place like this. Cold, I mean. But my sisters and parents moved to Ista when I was just in my teens. I haven't been here for very long."
She went back to her feet and gave another glance around the area before turning back to Ayishia, her own smile getting a little more mischevious. "I bet you know the ins and outs of everything around here, right? Care to share some secrets?" You never knew when something like that came in handy.

"Ptoth likes to be busy too, but he's always underfoot...looking for missions, he calls them." She allowed an affectionate smile towards the drowsy blue, shaking her head slightly. "Lucky for us we apparently got the less violent of the bunch...and less arrogant too." Thank the First Egg. Attitude would have been terrible to have to deal with. She was sure her dragon would grow to hate her if he had been all full of himself. No, luckily for her, Ptoth was meek as a kitten, if not emotionally fragile, most of the time.
At the mention of the queen, she paused, finding the comment Uuni gave to be semi-blasphemous, but so true. She didn't know much about the rider, but that gold needed an attitude adjustment like crazy. After thinking her words over first, she nodded. "You are right, that queen is something else. I bowed, but only because I didn't want to lose a kidney. You saw what happened to all those guys, didn't you? I figured it was worth the safety if it meant giving some false submission."
The nudge was received with a grin, showing Ayishia was loosening up for the time being. She was not oblivious to the flirtation from the other girl, but was trying her hardest to refrain from joining, only because she was terrified about the possible consequences. Her free-time was pretty much gone, as was her sexual freedoms, it seemed. The question was a good way to try to blow the advances off for now though, so she obliged. "I know this place pretty well...I used to do all kinds of odd jobs to help out. There's lots of secret corridors and shortcuts, but they're hard to explain. I'd have to show you." Her brow lifted, indicating it was an invitation that could be accepted at a later date.
"I can tell you though that the best time to get the GOOD extras from the kitchens is in the evenings, usually after the higher-ups have eaten. Some of the workers down there are more giving than others. Gotta know who to talk to."
The meat is always really good, Ptoth commented from his bed, lifting his head now and turning in the hay to cross his forelimbs and set his head down upon them so he might gaze upon the two girls as they talked.
"You'd eat anything that didn't run away, mine," Ayi retorted quietly, though she did nod in agreement. "Ptoth swears the best bits are cut in the evenings. Not sure how true this is, as I don't eat the stuff." She grimaced.

Missions? Well, that was interesting. Uuni felt the immediate desire to ask what, but was thankfully overly distracted by everything else at hand.
The smile stayed all through Ayishia's descriptions. Later, she'd ask about all the odd jobs that the girl had done, but for now she was more interested in the selfish implications that secret corridors and shortcuts brought.
Maybe avoiding Amelia and her Golden Snob would be easier than she'd originally planned! Thank Faranth for that, and maybe even that gold dragon who'd somehow breathed fire. What was her name? Cheesoth? Choseth? Ah, she'd have to ask someone later. The important part was that she knew the legend and why there were often bowls of fire; names were rather irrelevant.
"Evenings, huh?" she repeated, looking over at the sleeping Makereth. "I know what we're doing this evening." If she could sucker Ayishia into taking them there, all the better.
The little blue stirred, yawned, and blinked. For a moment, he seemed confused, expecting Uuni to be on the bunk beneath him instead of one far off to the side. He squinted over at Ptoth first and then Ayishia, giving a rumble in his throat towards both of them.
It was about that time Uuni grimaced right along with Ayishia. "I don't know why you'd want to." She swallowed down the bile that had built in her throat at the thought of it, and subconsciously wiped her fingers on her skirt.
You've been talking about food. Makereth piped up, only for Uuni to hear. Is it time to eat? The last words were projected towards both Uuni and Ptoth. Makereth hadn't yet quite gotten the hang of, or the urge to, talk to any people mentally.

At the mention of food, Ptoth perked and slid off his haypile, crooning a pleasant hello to the fellow blue. Yes, is it time to eat? Ptoth projected for all to hear, his tone hopeful. And time for oil on my hide too please, I itch terribly on my shoulders.
Ayishia groaned and rolled her eyes, though it was done so playfully. Still, Ptoth's eyes whirled in slight distress, thinking he might be a bother to his rider now. She frowned, catching this, and beckoned for him to come forward.
"I suppose yours is hungry too, right?" she asked of Uuni while Ptoth weedled his head into his bonded's lap.

Makereth rose to his feet and stretched out his front claws, leaning back on his hind legs. Shortly thereafter, he hopped with energy to spare from his own bed and gave a chirrup in response to Ptoth's greeting. He had been asleep, but now he was fully awake, his eyes twisting red with hunger and blue with contentment.
Unlike Ptoth, Makereth didn't have any issues at all with Ayishia rolling her eyes. In fact, he found it rather comical and interesting. The draconic grin he cast in her direction was broad.
"Looks like," Uuni answered Ayishia with a similar smile and one that she passed on to Ptoth as well. Yep, they had it made. She didn't think many of the other young riders would be given the delight of having a dragon head calmly placed in their lap.
"Well, no time to waste. Let's get this food party on the move." With that, she made her way back over to her cot to put on some decent shoes, patting Makereth on the head as she went.
But Makereth was going to meet his clutchmate and Ayishia. After all, this was now his party, and they would need a good show!
He wound his way around Ayishia's cot with excitement, unable to hold still while he waited for them to get up and lead the way.

She bestowed a loving scratch on her blue's eyeridges, a grin on her face that was common these days thanks to the affect Ptoth had on her. "You are a bottomless pit you know," she teased. Ptoth snorted and lifted his head up and away, looking affronted.
I am a growing dragon. You want me to be big and strong, don't you?
You are already big and strong, silly, but yes, I would like you to be big enough to carry us on an adventure one day. The dragon huffed in response; he was good at playing the 'soooo offended' game with her.
She reached down to pull her shoes free from the underside of her cot, then sat up to give the approaching Makereth some attention. She found his enthusiasm to be charming, but was privately glad that Ptoth was a little more self-contained for the time being. "I see you're just full of energy, aren't you? I bet you keep Yours very busy."
Ptoth had turned his attention back by now, dropping his farce, and inspected the other blue. He seemed nice enough, which was good. Ptoth didn't want to have to live super close with a potentially violent and nasty dragon.

Makereth was only to pleased to be getting attention of any kind. So long as they were looking at him. He bumped her arm with the tip of his nose, giving her confirmation that, yes, he was full of energy.
"Too busy," Uuni said with a chuckle as she slipped the boots over her feet and started to lace up the edges. It felt weird wearing something Avery had given her. She looked over at Makereth for a moment and sighed before moving to the other.
The dragon in question quieted up when Ptoth came over and he had enough kindness to sit. They were all happy, and smiling, and so Makereth was very willing to be happy as well. When we get to the kitchens, do you and Yours want to help me replace all the knives with spoons? We can hide the knives in the ovens."
Of course, Uuni figured as much of this out over the mental connection and rose with a snort as she'd finished with her shoes.
"He's recruiting already, I see." She offered an arm for the Ayishia to loop hers through if she wanted, and then started the way down the hall. Of course, she had no idea if there were any short cuts they were taking, so she was quick to realize that the other bluerider was to take the lead.

Mak's inquiry put Ptoth in an interesting position. He knew that his Mine wouldn't be thrilled they were doing such a thing, but it was a harmless prank and he was soooo bored. Plus, he was making a friend and friends were good, right? His indecision was caught by Ayishia before he said a word though and she quickly understood once Uuni made her own comment.
"You know the head lady will toss her tubers if you do anything to her kitchen, Ptoth," she cautioned, finishing the tie on her last shoe before sitting up. "Remember, she's the one who makes sure you guys have tasty meat ready for us during the day when you decide you just HAVE to have another snack." Ayi was a bit of a killjoy on stuff like this, but she was less against it than she had been for other things. This was truly a harmless prank.
It's not hurting anyone is it?...maybe we shouldn't...we might make them late to cook meals later or something if they can't find utensils. Ptoth tilted his head as he looked at Makereth for further guidance on the situation.
Ayishia patted her pockets, checking for her hairtie and what few marks she had to her name, just in case, then took the offered arm. To Ptoth, she motioned with her head in a 'let's go fashion'.
The blue stood, ever obedient when food was involved, his wings tight to his sides so he wouldn't trip over them. Being so young, he was still not quite properly proportioned so his wings caused him grief quite easily if they were in the way.
