Having been summoned to one of the conference rooms in the TRHQ, Nikki was obsessively tugging at the jacket of her new agent uniform. While she had liked the colors of her grunt uniform better, she was atleast glad she didn't have to worry about that hat anymore. Trying to make sure she looked decent, she paused in front of the door to smooth out any wrinkles from her clothes and to make sure her hair was in place.
Once satisfied, she opened the door and went inside, not at all having a clue as what to expect. Not surprisingly she found the elite who had summoned her, Seth. She found him to be a strict man who took his work very seriously, something she admired. The fact that many of the loner ranks either feared or despised him didn't really bother her in the least. He was a superior officer and that was all.
She saluted smartly to the elite, and he then nodded at her.
"Good. I'll let you know what this is all about once the other one shows up."
Other one?

At exactly 1400 hours, there was a knock at the door of Conference Room Two and it swung open. Here Hayes was in full uniform, cap not even at an angle. The Rocket looked like he was actually taking this seriously; his Pikachu wasn't even tagging along.
Oh no, wait, there he was. Switch padded along behind his trainer, not out of any loyalty but following a desire to see what interesting (read: humorous) pairing might occur.
Once inside, Hayes saluted the elite. "Sir." He had several variations of the word; this one was #37, Reporting In.
Now let's see..
Oh. It was her. The girl from the chili incide- er, cafeteria. In an Agent uniform, too. Hayes saluted again, a little more casually this time, and offered his new partner a friendly smile. "Nikki, right?"
Apparently the punishment for unauthorized fraternizing with a woman was another woman.

When Hayes entered, Seth nodded approvingly. They both had gotten there in time, or early in Nikki's case. All was well.
Nikki blinked as this man she barely knew entered. She'd seen him around, but didn't really know him. The blonde looked him up and down, scrutinizing the grunt and his Pikachu. Not much to look at, really. She then returned her attention to Seth as he cleared his throat.
"I'm assigning you both are partners from this point on. I'm convinced you two will, at the very least, learn a lot from each other."
Nikki's brown eyes widened. She was going to be paired with him? She detested the thought of having a partner to begin with but... this?!
"With all due respect sir, I believe we would all be better off if I wasn't partnered with a computer junky."
Seth eyed her critically. "Do you have a problem with computer junkies?" he asked with a sharp tone, causing Nikki to straighten.
"Uh... no sir! Its just that I'd rather not be with an arrogant, know-it-all." She shot Hayes an incriminating glare. Nevermind that she didn't know him... just..
"Then you two should get along just fine."
"..." Nikki guffawed at this. WHAT?!

Switch twitched his nose at the girl; a bit of static built up from shuffling over the carpet discharged off his tail. He remembered her. The angry screaming one. Didn't look like much had changed. Unimpressed, the Pikachu scratched at one ear with his back foot.
Hayes took Nikki's insults without flinching, and when she glared at him, just smiled back. "We'll do our best to be a credit to the Team, sir," he told Seth with a brief two-fingered salute off his temple, and stepped forward to offer a hand to Nikki.
"You're the one with the black Pidgeot I keep hearing about? Nice to be working with you."
He didn't seem anything but friendly and casually professional.

"Very good," Seth commented to Hayes' willingness to cooperate, a smirk set on his face now. "It will be noted in the records. You're both dismissed." He watched in amusement as Nikki just leered at her new partner.
Now this guy was showing her up by acting all cooperative? This infuriated her to say the least. He was making her look bad! Nevermind that she did a good enough job of it on her own.
Nikki just stared at Hayes offered hand and swatted at it before storming past him. "Stuff it."
And with that, she left the room.

Hayes let his hand be batted aside, offering no resistance, and half-turned to let Nikki past. He watched her storm off down the hallway, hands finding their way into his pockets again.
Well, that could have gone better. But it could have gone worse.
The grunt just shrugged and gave Seth a sort of 'oh well' smile. "C'mon Switch." Remembering to salute the elite, he headed off in the same direction.

It didn't take Nikki long to realize that her new partner was following her down the corridor.
She shot a glance over her shoulder and frowned. "Don't tell me you're going to start following around like a lost puppy. Just because I'm forced to be your partner doesn't mean we're joined at the hip."
She would honestly rather only associate with him unless she absolutely had to. That being on missions or whatever.

The grunt just shrugged, smiled, and reached up to brush sandy blond bangs from his eyes. "All right; I won't," he said pleasantly.
And kept strolling in the same direction.

... Why did she not believe that? Perhaps it was because as she continued... this Hayes guy still kept following her.
After a few more minutes she stopped at an intersection in the corridor and turned around to face him.
"I don't know what it is you're trying to prove, but its getting pretty damn annoying! The corridor isn't a one way street you know! So stop following me already!"

The Rocket paused, leaning back slightly from the volume of his new partner's outburst. "Prove?" he started to say.
At Hayes' feet, Switch flicked an ear as electricity crackled off his cheeks.
The young man waited until she was done. "..nothing really," he pointed out in a reasonable tone of voice. He indicated further down the hallway being traveled with a jerk of his thumb.
"My dorm's this way."

Nikki narrowed her eyes slightly, looking annoyed but at the same time feeling just a tad bit foolish. Which was probably his intention in the first place. Hmph.
"Whatever," she muttered. "Mine's that way." She pointed down another corridor that intersected with the one they'd just been traveling.
And with that, she went the direction she indicate, hoping that he wouldn't just keep following her.

No condescending "It's okay, you must be stressed." No smirk as a passing Agent, having heard Nikki's outburst down the hall, rounded the corner and gave her a brief look. Hayes just nodded slightly, infuriatingly unruffled.
Seth's plan seemed to be having the opposite effect.
But he did toss off a brief wave and a cheerful "See you, then," before heading for his own dorm. He'd take a look at the private dossiers and find out exactly what he was dealing with there. It wasn't exactly allowed, but when had that ever stopped him?

"Yeah.." she muttered. Unfortunately that was true. She would have to see him later. Already he was starting to piss her off, and for no good reason either. His calmness in itself was infuriating! But that just sounded ridiculous. Still, it was true.
The fact that he was so calm though, probably meant that he was trying to hide something. But what, she had to wonder. Bah... since when did she even care?
She would just have to tolerate this new partner assignment, and he would just have to hope he didn't get in her way or slow her down. Otherwise there would be hell to pay.
Eventually there was the slamming of a door as Nikki entered her room. Cue sulking once again.
