The Ranking System

This is another new concept that is going to be tested in this roleplay. Player characters will be given promotions in rank throughout, depending on how certain events transpire, as well as the quality of their roleplaying ability. Though activity obviously helps in this, it is the least important of the three. A more detailed explanation of promotions will be in a later post.

For now, the number of ranks is limited to four, just to see how well it works. These ranks vary on faction, as well as occupation. To give some benefit to being promoted, "Perks" will be available which your character can use within the roleplay. More details on this will follow.

As the roleplay only takes place on a signle planet (currently), careers focusing on space combat and piloting have not been included. As the roleplay spreads out across the Galaxy, these will be added.

Finally, there will be a list of every character and their rank in here, so that everyone can be aware of exactly what rank others are, and to make sure they are not exploiting this system.

How Promotions Work

This is definitely the section most people will be eager to read. Every single faction must do the same things to get promoted. However, the manner in which your are promoted will vary. It will all happen, in one way or another, during the actual roleplay. This thread is simply here to explain how it works.

Your character's rank does play a role in the roleplay. Lower ranking characters should listen to orders given by superiors of the same faction. Of course, some may choose their characters to be insubordinate, but you must be willing to face any in-character consequences, just like in real life.

It is important to note at this point that promotions will take some time to happen. That is not because we are mean. It is because we want to make sure the significance of the Perks granted at each rank are realised, and that they are not abused. In all cases, the first promotion is the easiest. Reaching the final rank, on the other hand, will require a lot of dedication.

As mentioned in the first post, quality of roleplay, how events pan out within the roleplay story, as well as activity, will be the main factors in determining promotions. All promotions (including for Crew) will require a unanimous decision from two active Vice Captains and one active Crew member. Any caught breaking this rule will be servery punished, as it designed to keep promotions fair.

Now, on to the manner in which promotions will be carried out. This will vary on faction and occupation. These will be carried out by NPCs that are not involved in any other way within the roleplay.

Quote:
Imperial/New Republic

For normal members of these factions, such a soldiers and warriors, ranks and chain of command are key to a well organised military. Promotions will come in one of two ways.

- The first; a holographic message will be sent to your character from an extremely high ranking officer with your faction, informing you of your Battlefield Commission.

- The second; your character will be summoned to your faction's Head Quarters. There, you meet a high ranking officer and be officially promoted.

Quote:
Dark Jedi/Grey Jedi/Jedi

With all forms of Force training, promotions are widely desired. Not only does it give one command of greater respect, but access to new training. For each sect of the Jedi, there will be a different means of being promoted.

- For the Dark Jedi, the late Emperor's most highly regarded and elusive Dark Assassin will creep from the shadows. Having given the announcement of promotion, and having no interest in the current conflict, he slip back into the darkness.

- Grey Jedi have an equally elusive informer. Known simply as "The Old Man", he is a suspected powerful Force User from ages past, lingering in this world to guide those who study all areas of the Force. He too will disappear having announced advancements.

- The Jedi, on the other hand, have only one person who can deliver such news. The Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker, will personally seek out those worthy of promotion. Even though it is a time of war, his responsibilities to the Jedi Academy means he will not be able to stay for long.

Quote:
Neutral

Those not aligned to any faction do not seek promotions, as there are none. However, reputation is far more important to them as it helps secure better paying jobs in the future, as well as more challenging ones.

- What's the best way for someone to gain a reputation? Through the Holonet News Network. Those having increased their reputation will certainly see their deeds on the Holonet, as will everyone else.

Imperial/New Republic Ranks and Perks

Private
The starting place in any military career, Privates make up the bulk of military ground forces for both factions. As the situation in the Galaxy has been somewhat unstable over the past few decades, many of these soldiers are drafted in, meaning they lack much combat experience. However, it is the only starting point on becoming a truly hardened warrior.

Perk: None

Corporal
Having seen the horror of combat first hand, Corporals have a developing sense of knowing when new equipment can turn the tide of battle in their favour. With their new connections to higher-ups, then can call in a small supply drop to aid them. However, they are not well enough connected to rely on these supplies all the time, so it must be used sparingly.

Perk: Supply Drop

Sergent
With greater freedoms and responsibilities, Sergents are expected to lead their troops effectively. However, many are chosen to start elite, covert squadrons. They are allowed to hand pick those they think will be the most efficient, as well as working best along side them, from within or outside their faction. As these groups are designed to be covert, they are only limited to a group of four. Even though small, these groups can be extremely deadly. (These four MUST be other player characters you have recruited within the roleplay. It doesn't matter what rank they are, as long as they are other players. No NPCs).

Perk: Elite Commando Squadron

Master Sergent
Only Sergents who have led an Elite Commando Squardron to countless victories can ever hope of being promoted to Master Sergent. Widely respected, tales of their successes has made them some valuable friends. A Master Sergent can befriend a same faction Artillery Company, which can be radioed in to decimate enemies held up in buildings. Or, perhaps the Squadron of Bombers has heard of their tales and offered their services, making easy work of ground troops. Though a valuable connection, using military resources for personal favours does not sit well with Commanding Officers, so it should not be used too often.

Perks: Artillery Fire or Bombing Run

Neutral Ranks and Perks

Nobody
You've yet to make a name for yourself. No one has heard of any of your deeds, and good jobs are extremely hard to come by. Many of your peers don't wish to be around you out of embarrassment, so you've yet to learn any tricks of the trade.

Perk: None

Recognisable
Finally! You've done enough so that you're starting to build a reputation. You're skills are desirable to both the Imperials and the New Republic. However, these two factions aren't trusting of outsiders, and will likely strip you of your weapons. Fortunately, you've now made friends in the underworld, who have been kind enough to teach you clever ways to hide a pistol or small blade from even the most intrusive of searches.

Perk: Concealed Weapon

Notorious
As your reputation grows, so do your connections. Your deeds have attracted the attention of both the New Republic and the Imperials. Even though you are not aligned with them, they see you as a valuable asset, willing to aid you when you are in grave danger. Of course, you are not invaluable to them, so the support they give is minimal. When you need it most, you can call in two troops from either faction to aid you in combat. Relying on this too heavily though will surely do damage to your reputation.

Perk: Factional Support

Legend
Everyone across the Galaxy knows of your exploits. You are so infamous, that some refuse to believe you actually exist, are think you are nothing more than an fictional character. However, those who do know you wish to know more about your past. To keep in with the good contracts, you reveal a little. Maybe you were a former soldier who still has connections to the military, allowing for supplies whenever you need them. Or, perhaps you once considered walking the life as a Force User, but were never able to get there.

Perks: Supply Drop or Single Lightsaber

Dark Jedi/Grey Jedi/Jedi Ranks and Perks

Dark Jedi/Grey Jedi/Jedi Initiate
New to the Force, Initiates only have a basic understand of how to use their new found power. Limited in their training to only pushing, pulling and throwing small objects (including their weapons), little is expected of them. Nonetheless, many are still dragged into combat with just this as their training, so they must learn them quickly if they are to survive.

Perk: Force Manipulation (Push/Pull/Throw)

Dark Jedi/Grey Jedi/Jedi Apprentice
With experience in using the most basic of Force Powers, Apprentices are trusted with a greater responsibility, a Lightsaber. Though traditionally earned at the Padawan stage, a lightsaber is considered more necessary at lower ranks, given how quickly Jedi are thrust into the field of battle. Moreover, they are taught the use of a aligned Force Power to further aid them in combat.

Perk:
Dark Jedi: Single Lightsaber and Force Drain
Grey Jedi: Single Lightsaber and Force Drain or Stun Droid
Jedi: Single Lightsaber and Stun Droid

Dark Jedi/Grey Jedi/Jedi Padawan
A Padawan, though still considered a student in the eyes of many, are formidable warriors, expertly trained in both melee and Force Combat. With their training almost complete and becoming fully recognised as a Jedi just one step away, all that is left is for them to master more advanced Force abilities, ones that cannot be trusted to those who are lacking experience.

Perk:
Dark Jedi: Force Speed and Force Choke
Grey Jedi: Force Speed and Force Choke or Force Stun
Jedi: Force Speed and Force Stun

Dark Jedi/Grey Jedi/Jedi Knight
Having proven both their dedication and skill, Knights are given a great deal more freedom. With their 'basic' training considered complete, how they choose the further themselves if left entirely up to them. Many choose to develop their ability with multiple Lightsabers, a key element to survival in combat. Of course, these new Lightsaber styles are extremely dangerous, both to enemies and the user itself, so they must be used with care. Others choose the learn much more powerful Force techniques to give them an surprising edge. Though strong, these powers are only just being learned, meaning they cannot be used repeatedly, and do require a great deal or recovery time after use. Whichever they choose, they are nonetheless a extremely well trained warrior that should be both fear and respected.

Perk:
Dark Jedi: Dual Lightsabers or Doublesided Lightsaber or Force Lightning
Grey Jedi: Dual Lightsabers or Doublesided Lightsaber or Force Absorb
Jedi: Dual Lightsabers or Doublesided Lightsaber or Force Heal
